    One way a NHL team can spend over the cap is LTIR or long term injured reserve. Not to go into specifics, but basically contracts of guys on IR don't really count against the cap. Then those players can be activated come playoff time at no penalty. See the Tampa Bay Lightening and Nikita Kucherov as an example of it. Great video!

      I'll check this out. The NBA has something similar. It's called an injured player exception. I think it works the same way, but it has to be approved by the league. Also thanks!

    Crazy that the A’s make 40 mil a year being a bad team. Great video

      I know. I thought someone would correct me like I read it wrong, but nah. They're really skimming 40m

    MLS is growing hella in the last 3-8 years. Can you make a video on their growth?

    • @whatslaps

    I feel like I basically same a similar thing every time, but you make cool/fun videos all the time, so I'll say it again. Good stuff man, you have shown stuff that helps make me interested in things I was clueless about. Always look forward to your vids.

      I appreciate it every time! Also so does the algorithm, so we all win. It's fun doing research on a subject and presenting it in a way that's interesting. Feels like I'm at college again, but I don't have to cite my sources.

    Great video, was interesting to hear, I was surprised NHL was that much higher than MLS. Even with MLS still gaining popularity I wouldn't think NHL makes 8 times more revenue.

      I know. I go to LAFC games and they aren't cheap and they are always packed. Very surprising

      @@whatslaps I always think attendance at a sporting KC game is good too, it must come down to less Television traffic and Ad/Partnerships.

    I am pro-(soft)salary cap so long as it forces rich teams to only pay certain players fat bags per team and pay role players/squad fillers more and give them more playing time spreading the talent much more across the league and get players who wouldn't normally pay and play that much, a lot more money and game time and make it more competitive but there also be unforseen consequences but that's why I would pro-cap

    • @whatslaps
      @whatslaps  Рік тому +2

      I agree there's a reason there's a salary cap. Based on the fact that the league is hard set on 30 teams they need them all to be able to compete with each other. I think the real brilliance in the nba soft salary cap are the exceptions. Making payroll management into a skill rather than a cheat code to eliminate competition.

    The NFL franchise tag should be illegal. You can’t just hold a player hostage especially when their contract is up. I like the MLB because teams (outside of the A’s) actually spend money and try to win.

    • @whatslaps
      @whatslaps  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, it's a toxic mechanism imo (franchise tag). You're right about baseball. A lot more money is going to the players now than the owners.

    Unless you're making a separate video, you should've gone into cap hits and bonus/guaranteed money in the nfl

    • @whatslaps
      @whatslaps  2 роки тому +2

      I thought about it. I read a little bit about it when researching the franchise tag. It's hard to know what is too esoteric. If I make more on the NFL I'll include it
