So grimly, darkly, terribly funny. I was invited to join something like this once--for insurance, not makeup--and realized after a week I had started to think of all my family and friends in terms of profit potential.
Exactly! This could happen to anybody! The tactics they used to get their consultants thinking in numbers without realizing the harm is what is scary. Thank you for sharing this personal experience and for checking it out, Coart!

The phrases like “If you love me you’ll support me”, “ I’m my own business”, “ this is empowering women”, “you can join my team and be as successful as me” - ( but house is in foreclosure, husband is about to leave due to financial stress). This short film is so accurate, minus the stabbing, and that’s what’s scary. Edit: I read the directors explanation and yes this was actually pulled from real life MLM consultants.
I love that it hits on how makeup can be addictive as well as shopping. ALTER stories hit on a deep level. It's like they understand society at it's current state.
Ivy's the kind of friend I wish I had. The perfect short film on all fronts - many congratulations on your achievement. I can't wait to see what other offerings are in store.
Ivy's expressions are so much like the ones I gave my mother when I was trying to explain to her that Mary Kay (which she got involved in because of a friend) was a pyramid scheme (she didn't believe me until it was too late, and now there are boxes of products in my apartment that she put there because she couldn't sell them). LOL.
Same...when I saw the familiar stack of cosmetics on the table I was like "oh no please not that...👁👁". MK cosmetics arent bad, just super overpriced...but the way they hire saleswomen is near predatory. I got a makeover w/friends (it was fun) but I was not with the idea of reeling in women with false hopes and guilt tripping. Sometimes I can see the desperation in the sales women's faces too, they know they are in deep. It gets so uncomfy
"You're so confident in your flaws now." And then when her dialogue starts to get slowed down. That actress was really good at playing creepy. And poor Ivy being tricked to go over there! Bless was more like a Curse, is that the irony here?
What an amazing film, loved the typical American sales pitch with selling false hopes and dreams loool. I don’t know if people would agree with me, but I feel like the house represented her, the women/sales person = the downstairs was like the outside of her= very tidy, clean, nice antiques, well looked after etc... and the upstairs represented her brain= very messy, a guy thrown in there saying “so much debt so much debt” lol.

Amazing acting! Especially the crazy girl, she really did a great job at seeming insane haha!! super eerie! also interesting message about the beauty industry preying on women, telling us we’re not good enough without makeup and that we need to be perfect, all under the guise of “empowering women”, by literally making us think we need their products to be beautiful. anyway, I loved the film!
Exactly! & then the opposite when people are like why do you wear makeup you'd look better without it. Then the running gag of taking a girl swimming on a first date to see what they really look like. But while also having the funny, "If men find out we can shape-shift they're going to tell the church".
I got the pyramid scheme part a lot less than I did some deeper meanings about us as women, beauty, and the cosmetics industry. She had to have the makeup literally rubbed off her face in order to finally come to her senses & see her true self & the picture of she & her friend in order to snap back into reality. The line she gave her friend when she was still deluded that she had so much confidence with all of her flaws as well as the mention of skin lightening creams and covering up excema for me made this about more than just a pyramid scheme but there was a larger much greater thing going on with a very relevant message. Especially as a woman of color who buys, loves, and wears makeup. I love these shorts: The Diversity. Messages. Originality. Everything! There's something for everyone. This is amazing. And, as an anti-MLMer I loved the message. Incredible production and creepy as f, especially as we see a form of this happening in real life to our friends and families. Perfect.
Many horror shorts feature people who seem perfectly normal, then later or near the end they suddenly murder someone and sometimes it doesn't feel quite believable (that depends of course - sometimes it works better that way, but not always). In this short, you could see right from the start that something wasn't quite right with Bless. It was nothing so glaringly obvious that Ivy should have picked up on it, but something about her behaviour seemed just a tiny bit off. I think this led up to the conclusion nicely, as it didn't seem out of character and it also kept the tension going right from the start as you immediately get the sense that something is wrong.
@@krimstine8835 I have been meaning to make this reply for a while. I dont think I eaid it already but forgive me if i have. I absolutely love "Drag me to Hell" too. I thought it was fantastically done so I already know you know i love your film but just for context thought I would clarify my viewpoint on this movie I compared yours too. Also I should tell you I waited for my mom to come upstairs one day (I knew what she was doing in her office in the basement) so when she came upstairs I had her watch this. She said "you know what's really funny? I just finished watching an Avon Seminar" and i said " I know you did...that's why I made you watch this" and she said "yes but you don't kniw what it was about" and i said "oh please, don't tell me, it was on actually getting new customers?!" And she said "yep" with a big grin 9n her face. So I told her what I told you and your response and we laughed and my mom told me to tell you "thank you for the pointers" as it was much more entertaining than her zoom conference call.

Thanks loves 💘
This is amazing. And, as an anti-MLMer I loved the message. Incredible production and creepy as f, especially as we see a form of this happening in real life to our friends and families. Perfect.
Im addicted to alter, ive watched all 705Videos#,..... Love this channel 😍
Clever and loads of fun!!!....
That's so wise of her to go back to that house.
BELLISSIMO VIDEO STUPENDO COMPLIMENTI
Unique concept, much needed. Awareness
How i processed it in the beginning: Sees red eyeshadow.... RUN.
My sister forced me to watch The doll maker and since then I've been binge watching Alter horror movies every night
Note to self: a friend that just drugged me is not my friend. Please run away and never come back starting now.....
Now i dont wanna show up for a reunion :/ naahhh i better chill out and watch Alter
Two more things. I have no idea why this made me think of "Drag me to Hell" and I loved how they pulled off the awkwardness in this.
LOVE "Drag Me to Hell" !!!! Thanks so much for watching, Monique!
