Just got that same shirt in the mail yesterday. You sir, are one of my heroes! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me accomplish a long-awaited goal of mine!
For anyone else having trouble with the kick-off timing, try skipping the hammer-on and just play the 2nd fret E note. That helped me with the pattern and I could fit the hammer-on back in after getting that down. Thanks for another great lesson Jim!
Great lesson Jim ill have to sit down and tackle this one. Been super busy with college and only 5 more classes until im totally done! Hard to believe this 2 year degree is almost done..
Hi Jim, love your videos and it has helped me to learn a lot of different tunes. Could you do a version of Cherokee Shuffle , sounds a good tune to learn. G.
Jim, I couldn't tell you were distracted today. I enjoyed the lesson, as always. I wish you could tutor me, one-on-one. I don't know who would be able to teach be banjo over here (I'm in Australia).
Ive been playing bluegrass guitar for many years and have picked up a banjo last week and by sheer determination have gotten my favourite song down you've helped me no end!!!! Could you point me anywhere to learn the classic stanley bend that he puts in this song i dont know how to do it. Thanks pal
I don't think I have a video where I address that specifically. Start out doing it with a bend at the 10th fret on the second string (every time), and you'll do the FMB (21215215) roll.
Its'not an'easy song, but I 'll try to learn how mountaingirls can love.I think the girls in mountain have also a daily hard work to make her things allright.
Pretty sure I’ve discussed this somewhere before, but I used different sets on different banjos. Best advice i can offer is to buy several sets to try and find something YOU like.
Hi Jim. I was wondering, I remember in an earlier post you said that you wouldn't do a song because you would have to start a whole new series on index lead. Is this song in that category ?
@@JimPankey Do you think you'll be doing more index lead tunes later on? Also I think I heard someone else call it inside string playing. Is that correct?
I've never heard it called that. I play inside strings every time I play, so if someone calls it that, it doesn't really make much sense to me. I don't have any other plans to cover more index lead in the near future, though I might add index lead licks to other tunes I teach.
@@JimPankey That inside string thing didn't make any sense to me either. I love all the lessons on tunes and licks that you do. I've been playing for little more than a year now and every time you come out with something new I still get excited. Thank you so much for every thing, including the all advice you've given me in the past. You always give me some thing to look forward to.
Jim, the olady and me enjoy your videos. Made me Pull my fathers banjo out and start messing with it. An old Gibson master tone custom 3500. Olady started messing with it and watching you vids she picked up a little banjo for herself. Now, this video here you’re confusing me. The roll is a hammer 4315 but after the 331 you said 5 hammer 415 then 3315315 no hammer is what you did. Help please. Keep up the good tunes and vibes.
Howdy thanks for the tune I was wondering if you could maybe do a lesson on Polly Vaughn or something I love the Dillards and their music and I’d like to play something like that, Thanks again
Maybe... but probably not. I've done a couple of Dillards tunes, they're out here for you. Get those down, and I bet you can figure out Polly Vaughn - especially since Doug plays it a note at a time. The chord changes are pretty obvious too, and if you've been through my lessons enough to have the fundamentals assimilated you should be able to even identify the roll he's playing through most of it.
It’s not that I have anything against Polly Vaughn, but there’s really not a banjo break beyond the intro which is two measures repeated. I do have Doug’s Tune, Old Home Place, Banjo in the Hollow, Dooley and Boil them Cabbage Down...

The past few tutorials have been my favorite songs, thank you!
Glad I could do that!

Could you possibly do a tutorial on how to install cheat-a-keys? i’m buying a set soon and have no clue how to install them
Dang... I dunno. They’re so simple to put on - nothing complicated about it.
Gettin' it
Have fun!

Nice---thanks Jim!....nice shirt too

Thanks Jim!
Thanks for watching!
I have for a long time tried to find a banjo lesson on: old dan trucker. but I didn't find it anywhere. maybe you could make one video on it?
I've never encountered that with any band I've played in, nor has it ever come up at a jam session.
Sounds great!
Thanks!
I'm tackling this one next
It's a good one! You can totally do it.
Not a tongue twister to say, but it's a finger twister to play. Thanks!
Enjoy!
Got the Tab , but it does not show which notes get the 1st finger
The video should totally clear that up.
He jim can u do a lesson on in my robe of white and i have another suggeston pondarosa by joey cox
Don’t think I know either of those
what kind of strings do you mostly use im looking for somthing diffrent

It’s a doc and merle Watson tune. Years ago.
Were you to apply the principles I teach in this video you should be able to figure it out.
Hi Jim. I was wondering, I remember in an earlier post you said that you wouldn't do a song because you would have to start a whole new series on index lead. Is this song in that category ?
Yup, but it’s a great tune to explore that. So that’s why I did it.

Here’s the thing... do what sounds right to you. If you can hear it, you can play it.
You can always refer to the tab too.
Man I’m really struggling with that kick off
You can do it, just hang in there.

Georgia
Where would I start with a kettle gourd banjar? I have one, as we'll a minstrel book, tuned in DADF#A ....
When I started messing with the early banjo stuff I worked from the old tutors. Not sure if there are any video instruction options out there.
Would ya show how to play lonesome banjo? Thanks.
I don’t know what that is
