Let us know which lights that you'd want to see us review next time! We couldn't round up all the lights, but we are thinking about doing Light Panels or maybe Light sticks?
How about testing inexpensive 1X1 lights?
@@8205455423 Great suggestion! Got any brands you are thinking about?
Big Old George Hurrell Style Hollywood photo fan . I was working with 3 to 4 800w Red head lights but 3200w was too much power for most places.
What would i look for as LED Replacements under $150 each or $200 if i can wait 4 to 6 months ?
Saw the other Video still lost a little . Lumens seems to be the last thing everyone used.
So f5,6 at 8ft but iso 800 or 100 ?
That one from home depot. Price is $$$60.00 also has battery and attach to tripod
Thank you for putting this together. I wish all comparisons were this straightforward.
This was perfect. Thank you!
We realized that there was a price change on the Savage light, it is currently $270 on B&H. Sorry for the misprint!
Fantastic video!!! Thank you.
Great comparison. Thank you very very very much.
Well done, lots of info. Advantage Godox, two for the price of one seems like a great idea to me.
Thanks for the overview. 😊 Fan noise is in my opinion a really important factor when deciding which light to get for video work. So it would be nice if you were able to quantify the fan noise of each light, so it is comparable between each light. Perhaps something to consider for future videos about continuous lights😊
Really great, to the point, very useful video, thank you!
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Wonderful job. It's so hard to find a clear comparison of the brightness of these lights.
Thanks a lot !
You got it Dan! Happy to help.
For me it's really between the NiceFoto/Power House or the Godox 200W. Just depends on if I want a spot or a flood 1K. Thanks for the great comparison video!
Thanks for the video! BTW, the Aputure 120D does have a remote control (aka wireless)
So good, thanks!
Our pleasure! Glad you liked it!
Great video!
Awesome! Just the numbers I was looking for.
You're welcome! What light were you looking at?
@@TheSlantedLens HA-330b. I already have an Also 200 ultra low noise... But it's discontinued.
Great! The NiceFoto is a super strong light.
love the way you rolled through that.
We had a lot of lights to go through, but we made it!
Would love to see the Fancon Eyes Bowens Mount option and the 300d as well.
Great, thanks!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great job! Love it! I would love to know where you got the cutout (The Slanted Lens) in the background -. -- There are so many polarizer filters in the market, if you could do a show about that will be great. Best,
I would assume its a custom made gobo, look into a company like apollo design
@@AGoNYC Thanks Eric. Laser cut metal for sure. All the best,
The CAME-TV Boltzen 150W would have been a great addition to this list.
Nice video, but the photomery in lux or fc could be nice since the aperture depends on iso used.
I own sl60w and it gives 4000lx at 1m (around 370 fc at 3 feet) with reflector. That is around 450 lx at 3m (cca 40 fc at 9 ft).
You can get a battery pack with ac outlet for it, also...
Thank you so much for this exceptional review. I appreciated the stop comparison. I would like to have this comparison also for other models (the VL and FL series from godox). Do you think I can calculate the stop comparison just by looking at the online specs? Thanks!
My experience is no. There are too many variables that manufacturers use to calculate their numbers. That is why we did our own test.
NiceFoto link goes to the Mivitar, fyi... Thanks for the list, I was looking for something like this a month ago. Luckily I ended up purchasing 3x SL200's to fit my budget and they are working out well. Purchased primarily for video, but recently used them for a large product photoshoot on seamless and was able to work with handheld photos just within the boundary of light output. This was a 3 light setup, one as kicker. The key and fill had large softboxes with baffles removed. Still had to boost ISO for an ideal exposure.
Hi Larry, I just checked the link and it was directing to Nice Foto. Check it out: amzn.to/2VZzoVz
You missed the CLAR 120 and 300 from Adorama (Aputure rebrands from what I have been told). Would love to hear your thoughts on these.
Regarding the SL 200W . You show the 200W which I assume means 5400K daylight but your list shows the SL200Y which is the Tungsten one. Are the specs the same between the two?
Thanks for the comparisons. I was real curious about the brightness of the Genaray Powerhouse. I have three of the Godox 200W and LOVE them! The SL-60W is nice, but when you're shooting someone with bright window in the background and you do't want it to blow out, you need the power, and the SL-200W fits the bill.
Good point! We know that currently the 60W is definitely a fan favorite. The Genaray Powerhouse was a real POWERHOUSE. That and the NiceFoto were neck and neck.
How is the 200w on noise?
I'm planning to buy SL-200w and Sl-60W. I wanted to know if there's a colour difference or any sort of cast on the SL60W? Have you used SL60W along with the Sl200W on shoots? Also, can you use the SL-200W to create decently strong light shafts with a fresnels mount similar to an aputure 300D in terms of output?
Very thorough, but only saw one light that you mentioned was noisy. I’ve seen and heard that the Aputure 120d II is really quiet. It would be useful to know the amount of noise generated by each light in dB.
This was such a cool episode PLEEEEEASE update it :) comparing it to a 1k was ultra helpful :)
We are talking about doing this again. Thanks for the nudge!
What do you think of the Savage 2000w Location Light Kit? I want to know how good it is for pictures!! Please, any idea if it's worth it?
Can you compare the CLAR illum Max 300, Intellytech Light Cannon Pro Daylight, Nanlite FORZA 300 and Nanlite FORZA 500?
I'm pretty sure the aputure 120D is wireless. Also the Dracast 1500 looks to be wifi compatable via app, does that not control it?
Hi, you listed that the Genaray Powerhouse has a battery mount feature but I don't see this when you go to their product page?
Have you tried the GVM RGB-150S which is around $460. Full RGB. Looks like some serious output.
Just started to play with the Intellytech L160s and Aputure D300 and having fun... but I remember looking at this issue a couple of years ago... these LEDs (with fresnel) does not “throw” the light as far as tungstens... not sure what the technological issue is???
What I’m really curious about is the noise on these lights. I’ve purchased 3 to try out and so far they’ve all had loud fans. Even the Godox SL 60w was pocked up fairly well using my Deity S-Mic 2. I’ve ordered a Jinbei 150 to try out but I’m starting to think the Aputure may be my only option that will stay quiet enough to not get picked up. Or maybe I just got a bad Godox? If you have any advice I’d love something under $400
With the new Godox series and Aputure lights it would be great to see an updated video!
We have that in mind. Thanks for your comment.
I'd love to see an updated version of this in 2021 - there seem to be a lot more options for LED's now particularly under the $1000 point.
We will consider that. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hello! I have Dracast-LED1000 Daylight. Do you think Dracast Boltray Plus LED600 Daylight LED Light will work better than Godox SL200w? This light (Dracast) heats up a lot and is it really silent as they say?
Thank you so much 🥰
Dracast makes great lights. I think they are very comparable with Godox. It might make sense to stay with the same brand.
the fiilex has a profoto mount maybe not a bowens but still many accesories available for it
QUESTION, is the Boltray -1.7 stops at each ends of 3200 and 5600k or in the middle? Makes a huge difference. thanks.
What 1K are you comparing to? HMI or Tungsten, fresnel, open, PAR?
This was helpful but LUX & FC in addition would have been very useful. And surprised 300D isn’t here. Thanks.
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching Pawel :) Hope this was helpful for you.
@@TheSlantedLens of course, like always :)
Hi there. Have you had a chance to review the genaray endeavor 33k moonlight?
I have not but the genaray lights are very good.
Hey Jay P, Godox has a Li-ion battery version of the SL60 called the SLB60W for $350.
Sweet! We didn't know that. Thanks for sharing :)
@@TheSlantedLens I texted you a snap shot of the unit.
Question - do you consume MORE power by turning OFF and turning ON an LED just to save battery life??? ie if you turn it On/Off/On several times... do you actually run LESS than an Hour and a Half because the Start Up consumes MORE power than the actual run?
Thank you for the great comparison video! I would just avoid that swish sound every time you cut. It's kinda distracting.
Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback! We have already started making the swish less extreme! Check out some of our newer videos and let us know if it's improved for you. :)
Nice. Lighting is key
Definitely, you get me.
I would love to see a tutorial on compatibility of flash triggers. I have a Cannon camera with a cannon speed light and would like to integrate it with various strobe units. Other than an optical slave, I have no way of integrating my strobes. Any suggestions.
Good question, I've been wanting to shoot a video using strobe lights.
Thanks for the video! Godox 60 seems to be the one I'll be getting seeing how good the specs are at such a cheap price point. I've seen tests and the quality seems to be almost on par with a 120d. Only downer is that it doesn't come with a battery mount :/
Apparently, they have a version that comes with a battery mount: bhpho.to/2MkLp3R
there is a battery operated version it called the SLB60 daylight balanced
You can also pick up a Black & Decker Portable Power Station... I’ve run LED lights off this for hours.
For the price difference you'll be saving, get yourself a portable "electric" generator on Amazon and take it on location to your shoots! This is the one I use and it lasts all day: amzn.to/2LWJSj8
NiceFoto COB LED HA 3300B vs Aputure 300d in terms of output, fan noise and overall usability
great video, this is very useful information. I did find the swish sound effects repetitive and annoying.
Thanks! Sorry that you didn't enjoy them, we will keep that in mind for future edits.
@@TheSlantedLens Its all good, just thought it would be useful feedback.
Generay is one of the Gratus Group's brands, aka a B&H in-house brand. They often buy designs/work with other brands to create their own stuff. Both Generay lights fall into that category. I believe the Gradient is a Falconeyes design while the Powerhouse is the Nicefoto one.
Thanks for sharing with us! The Powerhouse and Nicefoto are both excellent lights whichever one you choose and we are always giving away the Powerhouse this month!
Are these meant for videos? Or you can use for stills too? Thank you
interesting, i was just wondering about LEDs yesterday after starting a product photo course
Great! Hope this helps you see which ones are the brightest on the market
How come you didn't check out the Came-TV LED lights?
The Genaray Radiance 230 lights are regularly on sale at B&H for $350-$450 apiece. Especially at that price point, they punch WAYYY above their class. I have a pair of them and regularly use them instead of or alongside much more expensive lights. They're about as bright and robust as an Aputure 300D at less than half the price.
Wow, good to know. Thanks for sharing that info!
Can 1 or 2 sl-60w light up a room the size of a movie theater for a runway catwalk?
Hard to know what gear to get sometimes. Thanks for this guide!
Haha it was even hard for us to decide which lights to review! There are just so many good lights out there!
How is the fan noise on the Nicefoto light?
How does the 300d compare in terms of stops to the 1k?
Good question, we will test it in a future video if we get enough interest!
The Slanted Lens please do the 300d comparison!!
Add the Aputure 300D II too please :)
Thank you - a seriously useful educational video, Can I invite you to consider doing the same thing/same format in a year or two? the logic being that this newish product range will be updated and joined by others (this field is moving fast) :) Anyway "Fantastic" :) And I remembered to subscribe and to hit that little bell so I get emailed updates - Thanks winner :)
Yes! We are hoping to do more LED review videos like this in the future! Thanks for watching and subscribing
Missing the Godox SLB-60W, battery powered, bowens mount, wireless (I think), cheap, but similar output to the SL60W
Yeah we missed that one!
Good video, it’s just a shame you mention nothing about colour casts from specific lights.
What hard light do you consider the best and affordable? With less color cast?
Higher CRI would have less color cast. I CRI 95 and higher are better.
Great video...very informative!!! I did a similar vid on small led lights!
Thanks for watching! Which LEDs were you the most interested in?
I think the godox sl200 is the most intriguing to me...a led 1k for 350 with a decent cri...count me in.... if I had 2 lights I would like to see compared it would be the aputure 300d ( which has come to under 1000 recently) and the GVM 150s which is a cob rgb light for around 4 to 500 dollars...love the channel!!
Good point the Aputure 300d is under $1000 as well. The Godox SL200 is an extremely powerful light for the price! If you are okay with a battery mount I would recommend it. Haven't checked out GVM before, will keep that on my radar for next time.
@@TheSlantedLens gvm is okay...it is less powerful than 120d mk1 but it has rgb and it is cheap....no battery option as well
@@LunaScopeJustin I would really have liked to see a more thorough test of the SL 200, some have complained that it had a greener cast than the Sl 60, others not so... I really don't know because we have a ton of reviews of the sl 60 but none of the Sl 200. They would be great if they would match, as it would give a natural progression for people adding Sl200 to their Sl60.
After the Godox, nothing really competed when it came to price, mount, wireless, CRI, or anything else, unless you need battery power. Worth noting that the SL-200 uses a different COB (LED element) than the SL-60, 100, and 150, so there can be a slightly different hue to it if you're doing any mixing.
Thanks for you comment Alexander!
i'm looking at the godox 150w for $250 or thereabouts on Amazon.
Hmm, we didn't test one out, but I would check out the reviews on B&H! The 200W is a really solid choice though.
@@TheSlantedLens but 100 bucks more for 50 watts, or can you tell me how many stops ??
Would be very interested to see if it’s worth the extra $100 for 50w
I thought that Fiilex looked a lot like a Kessil. Explains the price tag.
Would have been nice and go just slightly above and put the Aputure 300 in the mix. It would have really made a difference.
Check out our previous LED lights test: ua-cam.com/video/QdZHZD8kOSQ/v-deo.html
can you use the godox sl60w for portrait photography?
I don't have any experience using the S160w. The Godox 400 and 200 work great for portraits.
What is a 1k? You use that as the measure of brightness but I wasn’t sure what it was. Thanks
I was asking myself the same thing, why is that important? Hope someone can answer...
Comparing to an Arri 1k, it's a light
FYI, the Fiilex lights will take Profoto modifiers. They engineered the width of the light to match the Profoto diameter.
Yes they do! Thanks for pointing it out :)
I always confuse about “f5.6 at 8ft? Does it mean that we should shoot at f5.6 when our light is set at 8ft?
It just means it's bright enough to close your lens down to 5.6 at 8ft. You can do whatever you want though, use ND filters, reduce the power, etc.
Easy.. Godox SL200 any day!!! Or the SL60
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
agreed have got the SLB60 - battery operated version of the SL60
might get a Genaray Powerhouse Daylight LED Monolight (~800) but it abit of an overkill as i do weddings
Have you done test wit the Sl60. I heard conflicting report about greener cast etc.
@@danielvilliers612 no green cast unless you get a bad unit which can happen with aputure ones too
Why don't I have tbe option to hit double like?
Aw! We double like you too.
The CRI of the SL200 I had was clearly way worse than on the 6xSL60 lights I have now.
I heard some unit had a greener color cast. Could there be older and newer body.
@@danielvilliers612 even I need clarification on this. I am planning to buy lights and I am going ahead with 200w and 60w but I am afraid I won't be able to use them on the set together because of the cast issues
I'm looking for a LED that can output as much FC as a 4k to 6k HMI Fresnel? Anybody?
There is not a good suggestion unless you spend thousands on something like an ARRI.
The Genaray Powrhouse is insane for the price!!! +1.4 over a 1K! That is essentially a 3K (in flood).
unfortunately fan noise is too much for audio sensitive work
David Brazda do you own that light? Is the fan noise really that bad?
@@xakhuh5104 yes i do. It depends on your needs. For youtube video you get away with it, for serious work probably not. Nevertheless I really like the power of that light.
Godox SL60W is good for Shutter speed of 1/4000?
No way. We set that up at 1/50th sec, f5.6. There is not enough power to get an aperture reading at 1/4000 sec.
@@TheSlantedLens canu u suggest the Setup which is suitable for Higher shutter speed
i wanna see aputure vs nanlite forza
What are these lights use for? Green Screen?
Not just green screen, any video application from interviews to product lighting, etc.
NanLite Forza 60 and 300 should be in this mix. Also because one might argue it's better than all these lights.
I will include it in the next round.
Godox sl200w is best options/for mony
it has green cast on it,
That Hensel light was bizarre. Dim, yet expensive but with no features. Why is Hensel so expensive? I remember when I was studying photography there were Hensel strobes in school's studio. They almost spent more time in warranty service than in the actual studio.
That is interesting. They are well built.
Did anyone else find the shot transition with that whoosh effect highly annoying? Try using a headphone and that sound is extremely disturbing.. however great video explanation..all information is amazing..just that I found is extremely hard to go through with the video with that disturbing sound every 3 seconds
Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching!
@@TheSlantedLens cheers keep the great stuff coming...u can perhaps just reduce the gain on sfx..
I hope i win a light i need one for my short film and my daughter can use it for her photography she is graduating this year from high school.
Best of luck! Even if you don't win, there are some really affordable options for LEDs that we didn't cover!
It would've been nice te see these lights used while shooting, it's too abstract for a beginner
This was more about which light is the brightest.
Happy owner of the nicefoto ha-3300b ✌️
It's a great light!
Does it have a battery mount?
@@directorngc7182 yes, it has the v-lock battery mount
How loud is the fan noise on this light?
@@xakhuh5104 very quiet, it has three quiet fans inside.
arent those lights pretty hot?
Not at all. They are LED's and not hot at all.
I made it to 3:31, how about anyone else?
I don't have any money , I'll bring the damn sun out the sky. Idgaf.
There are more inexpensive lights under $100, but we didn't cover that for this video
Goddamn it; Why did you have to explode my ears with those beeps?
Sorry about that. Hope you learned a thing or two!
13 colonies
Good pick 11 & 12 : lost generation of integrated AC or DC power... such a good light, but too heavy for the overweight or anorexic (and most of the time dyslexic) new generation of filmmakers. They'll buy or steal the greenish 300d mark 1, bc they're already spycho-addicted at every Ted's social smiley.
This guy's idea of affordable is not my idea of affordable. Checked out
Video lights are expensive but compared to what they used to cost before Leds got cheap these are crazy affordable. There is a high cost to get into video work....
Affordable? Have no money to eat in 2020....
That stinks. Hang in there. Things will get better.
AWESOME !! THANKS !
You're welcome! Hope you find what you are looking for!
