Got the same problem dude, you’re not alone. I think it’s because you are in a sleep deprivation, or you had a bad sleep, so you just think about what would make you feel comfortable in that moment, so you turn off the alarm and go to bed. The real problem, at least for me, is not having something to do in the morning and so not having a reason to fall asleep at night. Try putting the alarm far from you and putting a note on it to keep yourself from going back to bed

It's actually not that hard. Your reason can be anything from grabbing your phone from the other end of the room (or better from the other room), to having to do something important, like starting to study for a test. From there, it's easier to go into the kitchen and make yourself a nice coffee and eat something for breakfast, then go on with your day. If you really want a change, which is why you're watching this video in the first place, then you would do it.

    • @badatcreatingrochellecryst6719
      @badatcreatingrochellecryst6719 2 роки тому +122

Because our sleep cycles are 90 minutes, so if you sleep 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5 hours, you'll feel much better. Note that due to the time it takes to fall asleep, you should go to sleep 20 minutes earlier, so 1h50m, 3h20min, 4h50min, 6h20min and 7h50min.
Edit: I think it also varies a bit person to person, so if this doesn't work you might have to experiment with different times. Maybe get a sleep tracker to see how you sleep through the night. Also, anything below 6h20min will most likely ruin your circadian rhythm, which affects all the cells in your body, not kidding. You should do it very sparingly. I only said it so that if you are in a clutch situation, like a programming all-nighter, at least you will wake up more refreshed. Best of luck.

    - Back up for like 5/10 mins after if you can snooze and/or turn it off in your sleep
    - set one 10 minutes before you need to leave the house, so if you REALLY fuck yourself over by sleeping in, you've at least got 10 minutes to have the "shitshitshitshitshitshi-" morning routine of your nightmares ☺️
    - the 10 mins before you leave alarm is also great for that time worm hole for "how the hell did it take me 20 minutes to leave the house?!"
Idk as someone who is Doing Their Job Because Rent, might help. I get the why is important etc. But sometimes your job sucks and you just gotta walk to work and think "yeah I'm glad I'm not sleeping outside in this weather".

A bigger problem for me is how to fall asleep. I usually spend 1-2 hours in bed, being very bored and rolling over many times before finally dozing off. Sometimes I spend up to 4 hours of just staring on the wall before falling asleep.

Practice meditation. meditation is ironically hard (at first), but it will get you used to being okay with doing literally nothing for an extremely long period of time. It will also teach you to "ignore" your thoughts (positive or negative) whenever your mind is racing at night, and generally increases mental clarity.
If you are not sleepy, simply don't sleep. Forcing yourself is almost impossible, and will likely make your insomnia worse. If it means u get 3 hours of sleep so be it. It means you will be extra tired come the following bedtime. If this happens then don't fall asleep during the day, ever. Don't even risk napping, just fuck it. It may take a few weeks and It can be uncomfortable/hard to do this but keep at it and eventually you will begin to naturally get tired when you want to go to bed.
Cut out all caffeine after 12pm. It will definitely keep you up a little longer at night. Cut out sugar completely. If it is hard, start out with cutting any sugar after 12pm. Try to get your sugar needs from things like fruits or make extra sweet coffee in the morning. Just consciously decrease overall consumption as much as possible, that's the important part. Sugar really fucks your shit up.
another tip is make sure its really cool in the room(but not freezing...unless u like it that way). Use very light covers and sheets. I personally found heavy blankets make it more uncomfortable and creates pressure points along my body. IF its warm/hot in the room you are going to have a bad time. Get a bed fan, the white noise it makes is therapeutic and makes it easier to fall asleep, try to avoid videos of rain or ocean sounds or some shit as they are too distracting.

    • @MMOStein
      @MMOStein 5 років тому +24

@@nicholaspitti8171 Tnx, Been dealing with insomnia problems for many years after highschool and these are some of the most effective, least voodoo-like shit that worked for me. There's many more smaller tips but I want to minimize wall of text. I will say one more though because its probably the most important and I forgot to say in the original post....
Stretch. This is probably the biggest thing to get you to relax at night. If you find you are too jittery or can't sit still, even if you are tired, it just means you didn't get enough physical activity. You need to expend those energy reserves and release built up tension in your muscles. You do this by:
A: Exercise (obviously) to drain energy reserves.
B: Stretching before bed to release stress/tension in the body. And I mean REALLY stretch and pop your joints and massage the muscles until you feel relaxed. This can take up to a few *hours* (yes, hours) especially if you literally never stretched before. I can sit there and stretch my body for up to an hour before I sleep because there is so much built up tension, and I do this often. But even doing it for just 15 minutes is better than nothing.
If you stretch (properly), You will feel extremely relaxed, it can even become a little addicting because you will discover how f*cking GOOD it feels (because you are literally releasing the physical embodiment of your stress). I recommend yoga if u really want to take it seriously. I can assure you things like meditation and yoga aren't placebo trendy bullshit, you just have to learn to practice them *properly,* which most people don't.

I loved this video, and I can definetly vouch for many of these tips, even if I'm not great at doing them consistantly. Part of the issue I've been having is being consistant about when I HAVE to wake up. I do opening shifts three to four times a week, which means I need to be in the store by 6:00. This means waking up around 4:30, or 4:00 if I want to excersise. However, If I don't have to be at work at 6:00, I don't have much of a reason to wake up at four. I'm still trying to develop a system for it all to help me wake up. I do really like your tip about setting only one alarm though. I've definetly struggled with that in the past.

I've found that if I use the same alarm continuously I get extremely annoyed by it as I get used to it. Also, there is a high chance I would just ignore it and keep sleeping. And if it's too aggressive it would make me anxious and cranky in the morning but if it's too calm and peaceful it might not wake me up. I had to find a balance, so I have this app that allows me to play a radio on my phone instead of a preset tune, as an alarm. I choose this dance music station and 90% of the time, the songs are perfect - just the right amount of upbeat to get me going. I can also set up complicated custom snooze systems. I would set a limited number of snoozes, in my case 4. The first one would be after 8 minutes, not enough to allow me to fall asleep again but enough to just relax for a moment. Each one that follows will be after 2 minutes less, so 6, 4, and 2. The last one is super annoying and I usually want to get up afterward. The cherry on top is that If I want to stop the alarm, I have to solve 3 simple math equations otherwise the alarm keeps going. After all of that, wanting or not, I'm usually awake. The whole procedure takes about 20 minutes, so If I want to get up by 7, I would set my alarm to 6:40. My girlfriend, on the other hand, gets up immediately after her phone vibrates.
The point is, try a bunch of things and see what works. Sometimes, the tiniest changes can have the biggest impact. However, in the end, If you feel like your life has no purpose and/or you feel depressed, it's pretty normal to have a hard time getting out of bed. You need a hobby, a goal, or a purpose. If you're passionate about your life and you have an inspiring purpose you won't need many tricks to get up in the morning.

"find a reason to wake up"
tip 1: don't use your phone as an alarm clock(distraction when waking up)
solution: move your phone to another room and
    buy a dedicated alarm clock
tip 2: wake up at the same time every day (even at the weekends)
tip 3: never set multiple alarms (giving yourself permission to snooze)
tip 4: have a plan when you get out of bed
solution: lock a routine in like boiling water for your coffee
tip 5: prep the night before (outfit, towel, list...)

I find that the blue light makes me stop feeling tired pretty quickly, even if I had a restless night, so using a phone as an alarm clock can actually be helpful if you do it right.

My sleep improved dramatically when I gave up caffeine about 6 weeks ago and there's no going back. An overwhelming tiredness now hits me around 10 p.m. (I'm still struggling to take that a cue that I need to go to bed! 😉) Even if I wake up during the night, I go straight back to sleep and I wake up before my alarm goes off at 6.30.
I've always been a great believer that bedrooms are for sleep and the other thing 😉
I never take my mobile phone into the bedroom at bedtime and T.V. is a total no, no.
If I'd ever had kids, I would've enforced that 100% regardless of pleas for the opposite!

    Tip #3*:
Only set one alarm on your phone, get an alarm clock which is really annoying and loud for the second one, and place it as far away from your bed as possible.
That way you have the security that IF you really fall into sleep after the first one, you will still be awakened by the second one.
But you don't want the second one to go off since its very loud and annoying and at the other end of the room.

True! I used to set three alarms, first two of which were ordinary alarms and the last one was with loud annoying sound which turned off only after solving three math puzzles. No matter how sleepy I felt, I never stayed in bed after second alarm.

I really like your videos, great content! Just this one: Minute 1 "you need to find a reason why you wanna get up in the morning" (easier, earlier, whatever) ... 😂😂😂 What can I say, NOTHING feels as good as sleeping in when you feel exhausted all the time from having to get up / show up / step up. Just wanna sleep more, have some free time, vacation mode... Because - and your video on quarantine mode was awesome - quarantine mode is just as stressful as a normal day, even more stressful without the things that usually give you energy (meeting with friends at a coffee shop / restaurant / living room to just hang out, or hitting the gym when home workouts are just not the same) ... So, I'll continue watching now, hoping to get over the one minute hump 😂 keep up the great work!
