    #ACDC #80sRock #RocknRoll
"You Shook Me All Night Long" is one of most undeniable jams of all time. It's the ultimate party tune, that creates an uncontrollable urge to rock. This song and many others by AC/DC is truly the definition of rock and roll. ACDC is a band that truly exemplifies every element of rock. they are rock and roll personified. In this video we celebrate this iconic song from the second biggest selling album in the world, Back in Black. With the irrepressible Angus Young, who detonates a face melting, heart rupturing guitar solo that's become the stuff of legend and although there will only be one Bon Scott, the vocal performance by Brian Johnson on "You Shook Me All Night Long" effectively began his legacy as one of the most distinctive rock vocalists of all time. With an appearance by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads who relates a hilarious story about the band, this is a must see episode.
Hey Music Junkies Professor of Rock always here to celebrate the greatest songs and the greatest artists of all time with the vinyl community. If you are all about the music, subscribe below also if you want to help us continue to curate the history of these artists and their songs click on our patreon link below ALRIGHT It's time for another episode of #1 in our hearts where we celebrate a song that should've been a number one hit but for various reasons it came up short BUT IN our hearts and in our minds it is number one with a bullet.
Then the roller coaster fell to the band's NAYDEAR in February, 1980, when their beloved & rebellious front man Bon Scott was found dead in the back of a friend's car in London after a heavy night of partying. The official cause of Scott's death was classified as "alcohol poisoning" and "death by misadventure". The loss of Bon was devastating, and the band seriously contemplated breaking up. They had lost, not only their charismatic front man, but also their primary lyricist over 7 studio albums. Bon's close friends & family, particularly Bon's father, strongly encouraged the band to find a new lead singer, and forge ahead. Bon's father said it is "what Bon would've wanted." The band decided that they would actively pursue a new singer following Bon's funeral.
The auditions began to find a replacement for Bon Scott, and there were some notable candidates that vied for the gig, including Noddy Holder from Slade, who reportedly, was offered the job and turned it down. During the auditions, Malcolm & Angus remembered Bon mentioning a singer that he was really impressed with named Brian Johnson who was the front man for a band called Geordie, that he saw perform in London in the mid-70s.
Bon told the brothers that he saw this guy named Brian Johnson, and how great he was. Bon described watching Brian writhing on the stage floor, kicking and screaming while the crowd went nuts. Brian Johnson remembered the night when Bon saw him perform very well, because the reason he was on the floor of the stage was not part of the act, it was because he was suffering from a vicious appendicitis attack, and rather than rushing off stage to the hospital like most performers would have done, Johnson kept singing- essentially, waling in agony.
All of the remaining AC/DC crew, and producer Mutt Lange, wanted Brian to be their new lead singer. To Brian's surprise, they offered him the gig, he happily accepted, and the band made the official announcement on April 1, 1980, that Brian Johnson was the new lead singer of AC/DC. Billboard Breakdown.
The band's bumpy ride reached its pinnacle in July, 1980, when they released 'Back in Black', a historic LP that not only overtook Highway to Hell as the band's best selling album, it would go on to become the 2nd biggest selling album of all time, selling an estimated 50 million copies around the world- 2nd only to Michael Jackson's Thriller. With Mutt Lange at the helm the album was meticulously produced. Mutt Lang's attention to detail and perfectionism is of course the stuff of Legend. I was interviewing Jerry Harrison who at the time was with Talking Heads recording in the same studio.

I went to a memorial for a co-worker’s husband, died way too young from brain cancer. Many friends stepped up to speak, and lastly his wife gave the final eulogy. She ended with saying, “And now, here is Will’s favorite song.” And blasting through the speakers came “You Shook Me All Night Long.” My co-worker stepped off the dais, closed her eyes, and started dancing - just rocking out by herself. I thought it was the most glorious and magnificent way to grieve I’d ever seen.

It's possible that his riffs that he came up with in his bedroom, or on the tour bus, or wherever he wrote, have been heard by more humans than any other musician. Think about it...there's more people alive than any other time in history. Riffs from Back in Black and other albums are played on the radio, by fans, in sports arenas, etc. AC/DC is inescapable. I'd wager AC/DC songs have been played on a guitar more than any other band too. Whether you tried to play guitar and gave up or you are a gigging musician. The amount of songs they could do with 5 different chords is staggering and that ain't a knock on the band. They're actually my favorite rock band. They're easy and memorable enough for anyone to attempt it but to nail all the nuances in their playing is not a small feat. I can't count how many times I've heard their shit played wrong. Malcolm is the greatest rhythm player in rock history imo. Just listen to his playing kick in in a song like Thunderstruck. Angus's part is the most recognizable but Malcolms part drives that song along like so many others. And its clean precise playing too.

AC/DC is one of the greatest Rock Bands of all time.
I remember sitting in the theater with my son when IM2 came out, and getting all excited as Shoot To Thrill started playing, and having that moment where I'm listening to a song I've listened to hundreds of times, and just feeling this adrenaline rush. Explaining to my son after the movie was over who AC/DC was and introducing him to the band. Then going and seeing other MCU movies and seeing that trend continue where AC/DC songs are played.
It's good to see that they're being sort of reintroduced to the younger generations who most likely would have never even heard this band's music, now becoming finding themselves listening to these great songs, because of the superheroes they see on the big screen.

AC/DC has always been a popular band. They have huge concerts and many of their albums have done really well. They do all of this in spite of a number 1 single. That said, their latest single from their new 2020 release, "PWR UP," a song called "Shot in the Dark" is doing pretty well right now. In fact, their new album is one of their best. But I digress. "You Shook Me All Night Long" was, is and will always be one of their best songs. Great riff and hook. This song and this album is what inspired me to sing rock music.

Bon is my favorite singer, and it's pretty obvious that most of the lyrics from Back In Black are Bon's (their lyrics went downhill fast after BiB), but Brian Johnson sang the HELL out of that record. He really knocked it out of the park. I am not sure that any singer, Bon included, could have sung it any better. Brian's voice was never quite the same afterwards, but he gave it for a good cause: THE definitive Hard Rock N Roll album.

Read Bon: The Last Highway by Jesse Fink. He gets into this a bit. On the one hand, the lyrics on BiB, especially You Shook Me sounds like Bon's style, & things he said to a girlfriend sound similar to lines in You Shook Me. Also, allegedly Bon's family gets royalties for BiB even though his name is not in the credits. Guilty conscious for using his stuff & passing it off as Brian's to not overshadow his debut? Or charity for a family that just lost a loved one? But on the other hand, even though Bon would write ideas down in notebooks all the time, he would really finish lyrics as the band was in the studio so it'd be weird if all of a sudden he had finished lyrics for their next album in advance. Of course Angus or Brian will never admit it if it's true because it doesn't fit the narrative they've had for 40 years.

I saw ACDC live at the OMNI in Atlanta for the For Those About to Rock tour. They opened the show with a giant brass bell lowered from the ceilings, and the "BONG" sounds to begin the opening number, Hell's Bells was Angus beating on the giant bell with his Guitar! I was sitting 8 rows back, center stage on the floor in the chairs, and absolutely mesmerized (ʘ_ʘ) . About 2/3rds the way through the show, Angus has his shirt off. He gets on Brian and Malcolm's shoulders, and they carry him through the crowd on the floor while Angus wails out this amazing guitar solo like there will be NO tomorrow, and he will effect its destruction! There was total respect; no one from the crowd got in the way or tried to touch them or anything. Whoever thought of doing that was a genius and I can't express how appreciated it was by all. I don’t think there is a single album in the top ten most selling albums that didn’t have a single top ten song. And to think that if you took all the songs that made it to the top ten during those two weeks, the albums that they came from didn’t sale 50 million copies combined. How does that even happen? The record companies decide what music they want played on radio. Pop music gets its sales boosted most by airtime. Rock music is played far less but sells despite that because the fans are much more loyal to the bands and much more "active" looking for new releases by their favorite bands. Not to say that "true" MJ fans dit not do the same, but the majority are casual listeners that bought Thriller because they heard some great songs on the radio en decided to buy the album. The majority of ACDC fans knew when the next album was coming way before it was on sale and bougt it as soon as they could!

I think AC/DC is the best band that's ever been. Even their bad songs are still pretty good. And all their songs Rock.
