Im telling you Mathieu, you are doing something that nobody else quite does right. You continue to provide some of the most interesting and unique content about lenses. Keep it up!
I just found all my grandfather’s gear, after he passed away 2 years ago. In a very dusty case : a Konica autoreflex T3 from 1975, with an hexanon 35mm f2 mounted on it. Now it’s been a week and I’m only starting to shoot film with his legacy. Merci papy.
I was cleaning the kitchen as this video came on and I heard " I am challenging myself to take only one lens for a week in space" and I am like "Why the fuck is he going to space with one lens that is a once in a lifetime event and how the hell did he get a ticket on the space shuttle". Then started it over and, well, I love Spain too! :)
Hi Mathieu! Interesting review. You should also make a review of the even more ultra rare lens Konica Hexanon AR 24mm 2.8 (late F22 version). Keep up the good work.
Looks like it is difficult to adapt to EF unfortunately (I shoot MFT so I usually have my speedbooster somewhere between the body and the lens ;)). Beautiful colours by the way!
Nice images. About the lens it seems very similar to the takumar 35mm f2. The issue with the Konica hexagon ar lenses is that they were relatively unknown / non famous at their time. Since the beginning of the mirrorless era they reach some visibility and true that they are good lenses very well made but if their price was reasonable at the beginning they now reach rather high prices and so become less interesting.
One of the few hexanons I haven't tried or owned. They are all great and this one seems to be outstanding. 50 1.7 is my favourite. I do find 35mm on a crop is a bit too tight and prefer a bit wider (28 hexanon or 23 fuji own) or use 50 for tighter and portraits.
Nice video! It's great that you mention Konica AR lenses. I love them, especially for infrared. There are a few uncommon Konica AR lenses, but the 35/2 is pretty common. The 21/2.8,105/4, 28/1.8, 24/2.8 (f22 version) are quite hard to find.
I have the 24/2.8 f22 version, so that's nice to hear :) Haven't really become too fond of it though, but I'm probably using it wrong. On another note, the 40mm 1.8 seems very common, but have given me some of my favourite photos!
i am new to photography and tight on budget, the second hand market for lenses is underwhelming here. Should i try to get a vintage lens over canon 50mm f1.8
cyanogenmoded I use canon 50mm f1.8 and takumar 28mm f3.5 for my travel video. Vintage lens are cheap but not sharp, compared to modern lens. They have different characters. That’s the fun part when you switch from one to another.
@@pondejtrakul1654 thanks for the reply, i guess its easier to get canon than a vintage here. I might get one if i go out and improve as a photographer too
About 18 months ago I bought a Hexanon 35mm 2.8, a Hexanon 35-70mm 3.5, a Konica FS1 35mm film camera and a 2x teleconverter in a metal case for £50 delivered. They are really nice lenses.
Thanks Mathieu for introducing me into this rabbit hole :D I now have small cabinet with around 10~12 lens, it is a fun journey and I met many awesome people alone the way. For the Konica 35mm F/2 imma scoop this baby tmr for $150, so excited to shoot with it
I've got several Hexanon AR lenses and they're immense fun to shoot with on my Sony cameras! It's also a goal of mine to collect all of their UC series lenses
great stuff (as usual) Mathieu. What adaptor did you use for this lens ? I´d love to use my `old´ 1.8 35mm Minolta lens on my Canon but I couldn´t find a proper adaptor yet :-(
I have a few konica lenses and I am a huge fan of them. I don't have this one but I wonder how it compares to my Zeiss 35mm f2 distagon. They both have 9 elements and 7 groups 🤔. Thank you for keeping your older videos up I like going through them.
Love this Matthew! Btw: Curious to know your thoughts on the Super Multi Coated Takumar 35/2 Vs this Konica 35/2. I'm especially interested in which has the closest minimum Focus?
I ve got the Olympus 35mm f2 but it has some fungus in it. I ve heard that theres a risk of fungus getting on the sensor if i use this lens on my digital camera. Any tips on cleaning fungus from lenses? Thx

He's a trendsetter. He got in before it was cool. :P Now that the video is out, the price shoots up. Nah, he probably has a bookmark tab with a bunch of eBay searches he goes through daily to see if any new good deals on certain rare lenses appear. Then you just have to swoop in at the right time and you might get lucky. Also check sites local to you, people sometimes regard it as 'old junk', don't know the real value. ;)
@@SerhiyBohun The optical construction between the F2 and F2.8 lenses is different. Further more, there are 2 completely different version of the F2.8 lens. Great content as well! After watching the video I checked out XianYu which is more like a Chinese eBay here. I found 3 Konica 35 2 available but would cost about 2000 RMB which is way more than 100 euro.
I am pondering why the IQ was rendered so poor. Compared to what an A7III can capture, it’s fairly sad reducing the footage to this low of a bitrate. Even if for whatever reason one records at 1080p it’s essential to output at 4k, purely to allow viewers to see footage in a remotely reasonable bitrate. Just 1440 is a massive jump from 1080p in IQ, completely independent of whatever resolution footage or stills were captured at. If you're reading this and you're anyone who might test uncommon glass you get your hands on, please consider!
You didn't read my comment, I take it. @@MathieuStern "if for whatever reason one records at 1080p" Bitrate and resolution are not the same thing. BTW, Why do you keep the wrong camera model stated?

Very well done. Keep up the good work. I immensely enjoyed this lens review under the historical back-drop of Middle-Eastern Spain. On Naboo, it is interesting that Hollywood filmakers are committed to updolding the past. Nabi means prophet which probably came from Rabi which came from Ra. Whilst Spain has a brilliant history escecially in arts, literature, science, geography, Spain has also been subjected to painful darkness by draconian dictators most notably the Holy Roman Catholic Inquisitors. The Convergence of domination by both the Holy Roman Catholic Authorities and the Middle Easterners has had a compound Domination. Another interesting thing in the middle eastern art is the prohibition of representation of the natural or nature limited to only Geomatra and Geometric Designs abhorring any natural likenesses. How painful and tort must it have been and still is to be forced to behold and regard unnatural geometric lines.
The photos are absolutely breathtaking!! 😍 my jaw literally dropped. Throughout the entire video I was just in awe of how beautifully the colors popped and how vibrant and distinct they were. And the detail is incredible!!
