I’ll agree but suggest John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats as one with similar quality output.
Went to witness Andy in person in Saint Louis and I was taken back by how great of musicians the whole band is. I wish I could see a Foxwarren show that album is a masterpiece.

After leaving a super strict church I was born into, this is how I picture it all.. love this so much. Beautiful as always.
I'm not really religious but the idea of meeting God and him asking me if his love was wasted on me makes me want to cry a lil bit
It's not too late right now to reach out to him.
There's literally nothing in your life that is unforgivable for God if you reach out to him.
Let him hold your heart, I can whole-heartedly promise you, that unlike the people that we meet and give our love to in this lifetime, that he will take proper care of your heart if you do.
Don't wait till it's too late, just to actually see him at the end and be asked if his love was, indeed, wasted.
Jesus won't judge you, and honestly it sounds really silly but if you believe Jesus died so we don't have to worry about being burned in hell and all that nonsense, Dude was crucified on the cross like any criminal of the time.
When people say Jesus sometimes they immediately get a sense of. Being pressured into a religion, I will tell you that Jesus is love and love isn't a religion.

I get that, sorta, but I would say the point of the song is that God doesn't really love you and they're kind of just toying with people by asking. Because they've had every opportunity to reveal themself and make their intentions and desires clear. Instead, they leave us to figure out between thousands of religions, which one is correct and punish us if we don't. Meanwhile they dance happily at the idea of throwing it in our face that we wasted their "love".

Thing is though he has made the most important things clear to us, but it seems we like to deny it, or at least some of us are completely unaware that God has actually revealed himself to mankind. If you read the Bible God has literally revealed himself plenty of times, whether it's through Noah or Moses. But the well known I'm sure you're aware of Jesus. God in the flesh manifested to die on the cross for the sin of the world. He embodied the true image and character of God. Everyone thinks Jesus was a cool bloke right? Well funny because Jesus is the true image of God. So God is a good bloke! The only way we could truly understand Gods characteristics was to see a human being emody them. I know it doesn't quite make sense said out loud like that. But if you genuinely read and try to understand the gospel it will make sense. Trust me. You may need some more evidence so I'd encourage you to ask God brother ❤

Really awesome to see that Andy can touch upon, what I consider to be a touchy topic, and put it light-heartedly so that it's relatable. That and as soon as the second chorus hits, after only hearing the song once, I can already sing along. This shows great song writing skills!

One of the best songs of all time
I love how cheesy this is through and through. The electric arpeggio and the winds make me think of church hymns written in the 60s/70's, and the string hits give that disco emphasis. It's a great parody of God's rationale for sending "His only son" down to earth. I once was Catholic, so I find this very familiar and comical.
To top it off, I can get the hook out of my damn head! lol, I guess I need to put this one on repeat for a while. :)

@@chrispolo840 Dude I finally checked them out, and I personally felt there was a bit too much affectation, as opposed to the organic nature of Andy's craft, respectfully. Good stuff, sure, but they still haven't seemed to have settled into themselves. I might be wrong, but that is my perception of their sound.

The music video isn't a great representation, but the song itself is actually really quite biblically accurate.
John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
Jesus is described as the Word that became flesh. So essentially Jesus was with God in the beginning of all creation before he was ever sent in human form (flesh). So the concept that Andy is exploring here of Jesus and God having a conversation about "what will happen to him and humanity" is actually a very possible and credible idea.
I sincerely appreciate so much how Andy can explore his faith in his art in not only a biblically sound/accurate manner, but also a non-blasphemic manner and I don't think that's recognised or given enough credit amongst his fan base.
It's really such a powerful and impressive album in more ways than people recognise.
