    I decluttered a handmade dress of mine the other day, I sold it on Depop and the girl who bought it from me messaged me to say how beautiful it was and that she loved it. It was hard to let go but it made me so happy to know that the dress was going to live on!

      That is a beautiful story! Something similar happened to me a few months ago too! I gave away some upcycled jeans thing, like a pocket collage that you can hand on walls and put small things in. I thought it was not so well done and I just hoped somebody maybe wants it to prevent it from going to the trash. But the person loved it and wrote me a very sweet message later about how happy she is and so something that was not very important to me anymore became something somebody really loves ☺

    I was so sad when I saw that sweater in the declutter pile. I loved it so much in your videos, especially because of its story. But if it doesn't serve you anymore, it's not worth keeping it. Love your videos.

      I can totally understand your feeling, I love that sweater too... but as you say and as I stated in the video, if I don't wear it and don't need it in my belongings I think it is better to let it go. But I am still deciding how to get rid of it or who would enjoy it... And I am so glad you like my content even after I declutter that sweater :)

      I have made many handknit sweaters and it is has taken me quite a while to get used to letting them go when the times comes. However, I now feel good about turning them over to thrift shops or clothing drives for someone else to wear or upcycle. Also, you could consider turning it into a gift. Sweaters can be recrafted and you can turn yours into a cozy throw pillow for you or someone in your life. And if it happens to be all knit from 100% wool that is feltable (not superwash) you can felt the sweater and cut it up to make all kinds of things. Anyway, you will figure it out!. Or recraft it for yourself! Cut off the sleeves partway and hem them. Cut the front in half, crochet on an edging and add buttons or ties and you have a cardi. Ok I'll stop now...

    Enjoyed this Lia. I regularly declutter
    and never have regretted things
    going out of my life. Socks always
    wear out - well at least that is what
    happens to mine. In life we change
    as we get older, but best to keep
    only what we really love and use.
    Never regret letting things go.
    Some people keep things as one
    day they may need it. Yet the day
    never comes.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 роки тому +5

      Love that! It is so true for my short life so far at least... Sometimes I have thought about things I decluttered before but I never regretted something. And decluttering also always means making space for whatever might come into our lifes that we maybe don't even know about yet :)

      @@ecofriendlia Lia things will
      always come into your life.
      Whether you want them or
      not. I find the worst is getting
      rid of presents that I would never
      use. Then the giver may ask if
      you like it and are using it. But
      it is best to say no. But perhaps
      not safe to say you got rid of it.
      Tell them next time to just give
      you a book voucher. Then if
      you do not want to use it, maybe
      your dear son or boyfriend will.
      Such is life.

    This is the YES , do it ! no matter how crazy you go or feel of a lifetime ! So difficult sometimes to just sit there with so many psychological things trying to attack you keep this, you might need that ( jealousy of having things) you never know when you need this, all these thoughts keeping you disorganized almost like a hidden enemy. Telling you your no good, your a mess, you dont know how to live, someone has to tell you how to live! the best video ever and a true struggle of letting go of what you ""might need" ....challenge through your enemy of disorganization and their intent...thanks so much for making this video it must have taken a lot of hard work to stay thinking ! against those who oppose

    I use a box for that. Donation box under the couch. Every month stuff goes in there. If I've just decluttered something, it goes in there. Because sometimes, I do regret getting rid of these things, so I re-evaluate it after one month then.

    I’ve been following for a bit, but haven’t posted before. Just wanted to offer my support to your decluttering. I consider myself a minimalist and even 6 years in, I still make passes through my apartment to check what I might be ready to let go of. I also had Pandora jewelry (and other pieces) that I’d decluttered, but hadn’t gotten around to selling. I finally made an appointment for an evaluation in December and felt such relief once it was done. I even got more money than I’d expected. So I encourage you to move ahead with letting it go. Also, as for the “paper” photos, I have also made digital all of my photos and only kept a few “old” photos. They degrade over time so I support digitizing them. I have had too many family members pass who kept photos that were in various stages of degradation and also didn’t identify who was in the photos making them meaningless to those of us left behind. I haven’t regretted anything I’Ve let go of. I think we often make it harder on ourselves than we need to. Once I let something go it’s gone and I don’t dwell on it. For me, if it’s not an absolute “yes” with keeping, it’s gone. On a separate note, I lived in Sweden as an exchange student in high school and consider it a second home (Bankeryd-Jönköping-Huskvarna area). 🙂 Take care.

My son is definitely not a minimalist 😂 he has a minimalist wardrobe and we all pack very minimally when we go traveling but he has so many things in his room. He finds things in the forest has a big family so many people want to give him things... I try to teach him the mindset that he is always allowed to declutter things that don't serve him but also that it is his decision as long as I can walk through his room and he has a place for everything. Sometimes I wish he was more minimalist but I think it is more important that he can make these decisions for himself ☺

    I really liked this video because it's interesting to see around your place and your things. I appreciate all the work you do for this channel! As you said, everyone has to decide what works for them, but after my mother passed away last year, I would give anything to have kept a few more things of hers to actually hold in my hands, not just in memories. I think about that with relation to my kids now and wonder what they might want, letters and such. Do you ever think of things you might want to have kept that your son would cherish, not now, but when he's an adult? Just curious about that.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 роки тому +2

      I am glad you enjoyed the video! I totally understand that feeling of having some things to actually touch and feel. I have kept a few things for my son and for myself (a few photos, drawings, the knitted newborn outfit of my son) to have that little something that is not digital. But I think the hard thing is that my son is just seven so it is hard to guess what he might want to have when he is grown up. So I try to keep a balance, not store everything for him but a few things (he already has a lot more "sentimental items" than I have) and when he is older he can still decide to declutter some of them ☺

      Yes, I do think about that. Especially since we moved to Sweden for six months in 2018. It was an incredible feeling to just move with one backpack each. And I think if I moved again without leaving anything behind I would take most of my personal belongings (the things I went through in this video) and nothing more. No furniture or kitchen things... Only if there was an easy way and if it was a short distance maybe I would take more things out of sustainability reasons and so I don't have to replace everything ☺ but I don't have an attachment to other things than my personal things ao I wouldn't feel bad leaving them behind☺

      I am glad you enjoy the videos! I studied social work and graduated in October 2020. Now with my son being at home, I decided to not apply for a job just now. So I am a full-time UA-camr at the moment but since ad sense revenue is really bad at the beginning of the year I am struggling a bit. So we will see how it goes in the next few months ☺

    Tolles Video! :)
    Ich möchte meinen Abi-Pullover aussortieren, weil ich ihn nicht mehr anziehe (mein Abi ist fast 8 Jahre her. Eine Zeit lang habe ich ihn zu Hause getragen). Aber spenden ist vielleicht etwas schlecht, weil die ganzen Namen meiner früheren Mitschüler hinten drauf stehen. Weiß nicht so ganz, was ich damit machen soll. Vielleicht hast du einen Tipp?

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 роки тому +2

      Ja das stimmt... Wenn du ihn noch irgendwie cool findest entweder was drauf nähen/bügeln/sticken oder zb aus dem bauch teil einen kissenbezug machen. Ich habe auch schon pullies zerschnitten und dann als füllung für topflappen, ein kuscheltier für meine nichte oder so benutzt. Ansonsten halt zum wertstoffhof zum recyceln oder welche von den ehemaligen mitschülern fragen falls die ihren irgendwie verloren haben ☺️ sonst weiss ich auch gerade nichts. Manchmal gibt es leider auch keine gute nachhaltige lösung irgendwie...

    Break the cup then throw it away. If it is chipping at all that means it is not safe for use: 1, the shards are practically glass and if swallowed can cause internal bleeding 2, if fired so low temp that it’s chipping it is not food safe. Unsafe pottery should be destroyed not donated for these reasons. 🤗 Otherwise cool design on outside!

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't donate it! But I have thought about using it as a planter or breaking it and using it in a pot without a draining hole (or how these are called) to give the water a place to go and bit rot the plant ☺

    Where do you take the fabrics you don't use anymore? I have a few fabric pieces as well but I don't want to throw them into the trash

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 роки тому +2

      In Germany the trash that is not collected at our house, we have to bring to different places. I will take the fabric to a recycling place because the pieces are so small. But if they were bigger (I have decluttered bigger pieces in the past I didn't want to use anymore) I would give them away for free over an online marketplace so somebody could come to pick them up at my house ☺

    Liebe Lia, falls du nicht schon selbst darüber gestolpert bist: Es gibt mittlerweile für viele Städte in Telegram sogenannte "Natürliche Ressourcen" Gruppen, in denen man zu verschenkende Sachen reinstellen kann. Ich finde es sehr schön, darüber etwas zu verschenken, da ich die Personen direkt kennenlernen kann und dann sehe, dass meine Sachen in nette Hände kommen. Vielleicht wäre das ja etwas für das bunte Gefäß und den Pulli. Gruß, Miriam

    Hi Lia, I didn't want to interrupt your Vlog while it was playing. You had two links that flashed up on the screen during your post: one was about digitising material things like drawings or photographs etc. I don't remember what the other subject was that you mentioned but both topics interested me. Probably one of the biggest mistake to declutter paper photos, just to save a small and invisible space in a drawer, and also in your mind. It's belongs not only to you, but it's could be the only physical memories for your son and grandson, especially after your death. These type of pictures would never exist in the digital age. May these things are no longer serve you at this point of life, but your decision is final and irreversibile, you can't get these again.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 роки тому +6

      I understand your concern. But I don't know if the paper version is really that much better than the digital one. Since digitizing them I was already able to send them to my family (my parents and sisters) since they only have different ones or non at all) so I see a lot of advantages in the digital version. But I will ask them if they also want the paper ones before dumping them, they still sit in my apartment at the moment.
