That he is....a fkn hippie to the bone! And in his face, you can see that he hasn't lost one bit of his love for music. That's a happy man up on that stage.
Robinson and the boys take a Garcia classic and embellish with original riffs by every instrument and musician. I love the under stated but effective keyboards. The guitar cover is brilliant as is Chris’s vocal rendition. Our band has been studying Black Crow material from Oh Sweet Nothing to recent offerings. This is my first time having heard this cover and it is humbling how real musicianship can take someone else’s classic material and produce their own classic with it.
Of course the Garcia classic to which I referred was Sugaree. Ironically I didn’t look at who wrote “Oh Sweet Nothing;” with the lyrics, that fits but I’ve never heard their version. I thought I knew almost every VU release, pre-, post- and Nico, but that’s one l hadn’t heard. Will be searching.

it makes me want to cry. that is all. Chris and Paul have a feeling for music that is so natural and lovely. Great music people, unlike all the shitty stars of one-day hit.
As an old Head, I was very pleasantly surprised when the Black Crowes came out and toured with Mickey Hart's Mystery Box ( among other solid bands! ) after Jerry Garcia died. I felt like they truly honored the legacy of the Grateful Dead. I didn't catch THIS tour, but I'm glad to know that Chris was still giving it up with HIS band! They tear that shit UP!!!
Are you British? Just curious because I notice that but it's, I mean Brits lol use the word "brilliant" to express something that an American would probably call amazing. I like the word brilliant though. My DNA test said that I had 96%British heritage so I'm kind of an anglophile. Always wanted to visit England but not the castles, just little villages and pubs. I don't really agree with the concept of royalty and the fact that you British people are basically supporting them. They should sell off a few crowns and some jewelry 😉 for feeding the hungry and housing for the homeless. I suppose that I am basically a Socialist. Here in the US right now there's a big divide between the left and right. Left being the democratic party and right is the Republican party. I'm proud of being a registered tree hugger, which is supposed to be a slam on the left. I basically believe in saving as much of the environment as possible at this point. I believe in providing more tax money for education and day care for parents who need help with caregivers while they are working. Also, I think that our prison system is out of control and needs to focus more on rehabilitation and providing skills for the incarcerated to be able to rejoin society and become a contributing citizen. There's more than those things that draws me to the democratic party. I think that the Republican party has become somewhat corrupt ever since the days of George W. Bush and his Satanic sidekick Karl Rove. That was the beginning of the lowdown dirty tricks that the GOP started to use, in order to win at any cost.. I know that the Republican party used to have much more integrity back in the 70s and maybe the early 80s. But they have lost their way. I believe that fox news is a contributing factor by spreading rumors and false truths. I wish that there was a decent 3rd party to end this Mexican standoff. George Washington was 💯 right whenever he disagreed with our country having just two political parties. He predicted that it would cause the country to become divided and resentment between the two different parties. He was certainly correct with those predictions. I just wonder what he would have to say about the. USA and our political situation these days. Probably he would be appalled. I think FDR was our best president ever. He practically saved the country and our economy with the "New Deal". He was very disturbed about the sub par conditions that the American workers were being treated by large corporations. Basically, he went to the head of these corporations and in no certain terms informed them that if the workers were still being treated as unfairly as. they had been, then the company would end up without a workforce and nobody would be making any profits. The corporations finally agreed that gave American workers rights for overtime pay, health insurance and other basic human rights. Productivity returned and the worker's rights are still being the rule of law today. FDR was a very popular president and won the presidential race two times in a row. He was certainly popular enough to win a 3rd term, but the Republican party was upset about his popularity and therefore created a law which banned a president from serving three terms. It would have been a different story if it was a Republican who was popular enough to win 3 terms in a row.. Americans need to research the lack of integrity and sellouts from the Republicans and understand that even though both political parties have had negative experiences, the Republicans are willing to do anything to create a chaos and try to make themselves look like the party of morality which is ludicrous. Just remember how the Republicans bugged the Watergate Hotel so they could eavesdrop on the democratic party who were holding their campaign meetings there. Sorry for the rant, but when I get on a roll I can't seem to stop. Well, I am going outside to hug a tree and try to catch a snowflake. Lol😅
Chris Robinson is a god. My husband turned me onto the non-radio songs. love him for that. I'm a music freak amueay but since he had me delve into all the crowds stuff. I now believe they are THE best rock band ever! And I'm 45 yrs old & have seen enough!! love u guys!!!
Chris' voice has aged well - I don't know that he could've done this in the 90s. I had this version playing in my truck a few weeks ago when my wife (who is more of a country fan) says "Man, this version's got a lot of soul, who is this?" If my wife notices the soul, then there's a lotta soul.
That is Paul Stacey on Guitar... Produced Chris' New Earth Mud records and jammed with The Crowes too. There are some realy tasty recordings of these two from the 2000's... I attended a bunch of great gigs during that time... Paul's british blues style, and general guitar brilliance was so cool, and especially present here on this version of Sugaree...
Jam Camp told my wife man I been looking for this great, slippery, dangerous blues lead guitar player that was playing with Chris at El Ray. Glad to learn his name cause the mans heart is in the right place. Everybody too. That bass player ain't no slouch him damn self. Stacey got my attention tell ya that.
I'm a new fan, I found this by total accident. Funny thing he played at a blues festival in Santa Cruz, Ca. today. I didn't go because I didn't know his name! Damn!! I love this!! I would have gone in a heart beat!
Saw the Crowes shortly after 9 11 at the Beacon in Manhattan. Will never forget the tranquility of the city and how the band embraced the moment and brought healing vibes to NYC.
One of my most favorite Chris bands of all time, his music means everything to me, have mercy baby. There’s just not much real music out there and I’m starting to think I might be dying. I get to see Circles around the sun twice in March and then JJ Grey twice. New Crowes tour, was so freaking excited, but nothing around here 😭
What the swirling brain freeze was that solo. DH for 5 decades, guess Chris was since birth.. I wish I could buy the band drinks 4 life. Id be willing to bet Jerry listens to this in Jerry afterlife.. FUCK AWESOME
Great cover. That slinger with Chris is unknown to me. The lead guitar in this video seems to know some down home hot licks after all. Damn, he almost made me cry. Love the Dead, love the crows. What a treat. Thank you, thank you, thank you
His name was Neal Cassal. He was with Chris Robinson for most of his solo career. He committed suicide in 2019 and it was a very sad day for all Chris Robinson fans.
I keep coming back to this incredible performance - every single part is performed at such feel and skill. And the lead guitarist is just awesome. Love it!
This is how he sang in the early days. The real Chris voice. Nice to hear it again. Known him since he was 17 or so... long time singing to get here...
I can rock the harp like John popper, just, wish I could sing like you bro, you the best fuck all the rest, so I twist one up fa you and the guys and over my best Shine straight outta the mountains of Virginia I salute ya bro keep on keeping on .
Those guys were having every bit as much fun as the audience was. I love it when the cameraman focuses clear shots of the fretboard. There is no greater learning tool for me and it's such a rush to play along with a video it's almost better than sex. Sometimes it's even better.
Very nice job on this great Deadsong. when a song is a good song, the various versions just bring out that quality. Such a good pure job here...I rally appreciate it. Thanks and blessings, Ed
Love Chris' "just one thaaaang..." So rad. Also the bluesy playing from the guitarist fits super well with the blues type lyrics from this classic Dead tune. Shake it, shake it...
