  • Hey Everyone!
    In this video we get the bikes ready for our 1300 mile trip to Born Free 13 and back!
    Blue's bike gets a full top end rebuild, we also swap out the transmission last minute.
    I filmed as much as I could of the whole process but it was quite the week.
    We are a bit delirious from the nonstop grind and you can tell from this video.
    I tried to edit this the night before but ended up getting back home around 2am and had to leave the next morning at 9am.
    Very stoked that Blue's bike is running!
    Thank you all for watching, please like, comment, and subscribe!
    The next video will be the journey to Born Free 13!

    I just realized it might be good to have two overkill mufflers on some long straight pipe at the shop so you can diagnose engine noises

    my dads knee busted up from 40years of kicking shovels, sounds great what a good feeling getting a bike to kick over after a long day of wrenching 👌👏

    Great video. This is all part of pretty much every long trip on antique bikes. You put in the work frantically right before the trip and the trip itself is the reward for your frantic wrenching. There's no better feeling than when you tear down every part of your bike and you know it front to back. You know when you can trust it and you know before it's about to take a shit on you most of the time. Wrench. Ride. Repeat.

    Great videos guys! Just started watching not long ago and working my way backwards from newest. 24 min in to this one blue mentions having a dream about being hit on the way back from born free. If I'm not mistaken that actually happens.. wild!

    I know what it's like to get a bike ready on short notice. Hopefully, no serious mechanical gremlins came your way -- riding down and back. Ride safe, guys!

    I was watching your primary chain bounce around while you first started the bike and figured that would cause some strain on the trans and sure enough @17:00

    It was an experience bumping into you guys along the coast. You’re just like in the videos (who would have thought?). Hopefully the bikes all made it after the issues! I know we made to Morro Bay that night and you guys had further to go! (prism?). That was some cold conditions and we are from Canada!

    What miles do you expect from a rebuild engine? When will it need a rebuild again?

    I thought I seen the clutch hub wobbling around earlier in the video. That loose primary chain slapping around like that gonna be awful hard on them new tranny parts, might even have caused the problem.

    ...seems you guys suffer from the same thing that a gang that we had here with Brit irons. Let stuff to check or repair for the last minute making the trip kind of a marathon to have all in time for the event...
    May be my vision is different cause I have used these bikes as daily transportation so I always keep an eye on every part etc and always wrenching to have a decent commute in daily basis

    Do you know what....I love old Harley engines, from the 1929 Model JD, through to the '98 Evos,...but I look at all the trouble you have with those ancient Harley-Davidson vee-twin engines and gear-boxes...and I think to myself, (as I do), wouldn't you be better off with a Honda/Yamaha/ Suzuki/Kawasaki vee-twin engine, to take a reliable trip to Born Free, and back again!?....😉...😉...! Take care, all!..P.S I l love my trusty 1985-2012 Honda Rebel parallel twin! Looking forward to the trip!.....😊...😊... Ride safely, there and back again!....😎...😎...!

    • @947w0rks
      @947w0rks  2 роки тому +6

      You know the reliability has crossed my mind. But I think that would be too easy. To me the trials of an old Harley has another level of excitement. You have to be in tune with your bike. Know it like you know your own body. And when it breaks you will hopefully be able to fix it because it’s an extension of you. Also there is a sense of accomplishment that comes with taking an old unreliable pile of parts hundreds of miles, and making it back home!
      Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate you! Ride safe out there!

    • @FinkNZRat
      @FinkNZRat 2 роки тому +1

      Always thought both points of view are valid. So now I have a 2019 Yamaha XSR 700 for day to day reliability, and a 67 Triumph for the thrills. 😁
