If Gold didn't have any intrinsic value, that would cut the perceived value in gold by half (by doubling supply, obviously more factors at play for realized value, but I think you get the idea). The point is your perception of it's value is dictated in large proportion from the conjecture of others. Bitcoin (the example Luke was using) has an immutable code that can be verified through the network, so supply and it's technology always stayed fixed. To the second point, to reword what he's saying and what you're saying, when a currency is debt-based, the collateral on the loans given out is work hours. When money printing happens to collateralize the loan, it devalues the real work hours put in.
