The Kotel (Western Wall)

Jerusalem video tour with David Hyman, Israeli professional tour guide. This weeks tour takes us to the holiest site for the Jewish people. The Western wall was part of the second Temple built by King Herod 2000 years ago. It was built as a support retaining wall to create the vast platform needed to house the Temple and other royal and military structures. Our tour will walk us throgh the history of the site, the building and the destruction of the Temple and will explain how this wall became so important to the Jewish people. We will also see families celebrating Bar Mitzvah's at the Western Wall plaza.

David, who are the women you donate coins to? Interesting to learn the evolution of the name "wailing wall" to "western wall" and it's fascinating to know that it is an open air synagogue. Interesting to see the effects of COVID protocols on the synagogues.

Hi Ryans, thanks for your comments. Charity is a big deal in Judaism, and giving Charity to the ladies near the Kotel is extra important. It helps these poor women and the giver is also rewarded by fulfilling an important Mitzvah.

Why is there a small structure underneath the bridge or ramp? Why is Israel retaining that small structure and what stops Israel from demolishing it so you could continue archaelogical dig there?
