  • After recently diving into the Tentacle sync Timecode ecosystem, one of the first things I was looking to tackle was Timecode synced audio for my #zoomh6, this is what I've come up with so far!
    TIMESTAMPS
    0:00 - INTRO
    0:33 - OVERVIEW
    2:05 - MONITOR MIXER (IMPORTANT)
    3:24 - RIG COMPONENTS
    6:53 - BUILDING THE RIG
    8:32 - OUTRO
    #TENTACLESYNC #TIMECODE #AUDIO

    Dang! I wish I had seen this a couple years ago haha I am glad I upgraded to a recorded with timecode though.
    H6 lives in my bag as a back up now. Still love it!

      I love the H6 for being sturdy, awesome form factor and all around beast from its era! But I will FOR SURE be upgrading (in the future) to a recorder that has internal timecode or a timecode sync dedicated port. But like you, I will still use the H6 as a backup or more run and gun, no timecode needed situations..

    Good day! Great video. Additionally, ensure you set the tentacle sync E device set to mic level output in settings. I recorded an outdoors event with the tentacle sync E attached to the H6 with a couple of iPhones with Blackmagic camera app. I went to sync the files in DaVinci Resolve and they would not sync properly between the audio and video files. First mistake I made was not verifying I had a timecode tone prior to recording. Thanks for sharing your rig setup!✊🏾👊🏾✊🏾🫵🏾

      Oh man! I ABSOLUTELY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!! As I most definitely did this the other day when shooting a test podcast setup with a friend.. I am trying to ALWAYS double if not TRIPLE check, settings, connections and uniformity with every piece in a production! Thank you for the insight and first hand take on what to do when using these boxes!

    I have tentacle sync E and a zoom H6. I have trouble with syncing the audio timecode from the track and my video with the timecode embedded. Can you demonstrate your process for editing? Thank you in advance.

      It took me a second to find the flow myself! But I feel pretty confident in my process now that I think I can put together a short over view of what that process looks like from my end!
      *I'll start putting that together now and have that out sooner than later!

    Maybe I misunderstood, but having that clipped onto a tripod seems shaky, but knowing you, you probably have a 100 lb sandbag and a shake proof doohickey 😅

    And you can still sync it with the timecode audio lowered/removed?

    • @THATSTREAL
      @THATSTREAL 2 місяці тому +3

      Absolutely! In the video, we only lowered the H6's 'Monitor' Volume (The volume that 'we' the users would hear when we monitor the audio.) But the Timecode will be 'Recorded' for 'Playback' at the high volume we set with the gain knob.)

    Do you have a tentacle track e in addition to the sync e? I’m curious if the you can do the same thing with the track e now that it also outputs timecode just like the sync e

      I do have the Track E as well! And I can report that it is Indeed possible to run this exact routing with a Track E in place of a Sync E with no hiccups

      @@STUDIO6DOTFISH awesome, thanks for confirming! I have a Tascam dr-40 which I will try it with. But I have another question… do you think we can plug from the dj’s board straight into a track e? For example, with an attenuator in between to help with line level audio? I’d love to eliminate the need for my Tascam dr40…

      @@arielreyes001 Great question! I JUST shot a "Boiler Room" Style DJ set last night, with this setup (using the Track E in place of the Sync E from the video) And While I'll say the 32bit float gives us some room to sort of set and forget (not really, but sort of) I would say, I wouldn't run the setup without some sort of in-between device or attenuator like you said. In my case that would be the ZoomH6 and for you, the Tascam.. For me, the provided EXTRA SD recording of the set on the H6 for redundancies, as well the tactile ability to adjust the signal between DJ's sets (some DJs push the sound HARDER than others) I think is worth it for me.. But I think you COULD get away with just running the DJ booth out INTO the Track E alone.. and just set the volume OUT from the booth at the beginning of the night.. (Maybe put some gaff tape over the knob so nobody messes with it)

    Do you have a second sync e for your camera, or does a line-in to the camera audio work for the timecode? if you are using 3 channels, which two go into the camera? Thanks for sharing!

    • @STUDIO6DOTFISH

      I do have a separate (*2nd) Sync E that plugs directly into my cameras audio-in port. And I use the H6's audio files to replace the timecode blips that the cameras audio has embeded in it from the 2nd Sync E's output.

      I use Davinci Resolve, There is a feature that Auto Sync Footage based off of Timecode!

      @@STUDIO6DOTFISH how do you get the timecode signal from track 1 into the stereo audio for track 3/4?

    • @STUDIO6DOTFISH
      @STUDIO6DOTFISH  17 днів тому

      @@rpungello It doesnt go "into" the audio tracks from 3/4 rather it is "Alongside" them. So when im done with a recording, i press the stop button on the ZoomH6 and the start and end times match up perfectly between all recorded track (1-4 for this example) and when I drag that into my editing program of choice, I'll sync my video footage with the timecode recorded from Track 1 (alongside the audio from tracks 2-4) and everything matches up. because: every zoom track track has the same start and end points.
      Hopefully that makes sense

    • @rpungello
      @rpungello 17 днів тому +1

      @@STUDIO6DOTFISH okay, so the software is smart enough to realize that the TC signal in track 1 matches up with the audio in tracks 2-4 even though they're technically separate files? Makes sense! I tried this in the Tentacle sync app and it appears to work the same way, so that's good to know
