    For those of you who care, I'm not changing the title. World Rugby appealing this decision, changes absolutely nothing. Where were they when he got away with all the other stuff? The only reason they're appealing is because the whole rugby community called them out on their BS. Not to mention, there's been no word on them reducing the 10 week ban on George Moala from Tonga. And for people saying it's the 6 Nations that is to blame, you might want to go look into the people that are part of these "independent" committees, then you'll see that World Rugby is at fault.

      None of what you are saying is fact. it's just angry and ranting opinion.
      Allbeit many will agreee with it, but a bit of self awareness goes a long way. World rugby are appealing it as you know. whats wrong with that? it means your video title is false now.

Explain to me why George Moala is still sitting with a 10 week ban? Oh but of course, World Rugby appealing this one time (After getting a ton of back lash), makes people like you forget about all the other times they screwed up. As an England fan this is a disgrace - Take into account his record, there is no mitigation, he made a mess of it and caused a concussion. The outcome does not affect the outcome, but, come on, if we are trying to protect players then this is not the way. Faz should have got and taken a 6 game ban. Minimum!!

    • @tasanalytics
      @tasanalytics  Рік тому +33

      The problem is that technically, Farrell only has 3 incidents on his record (2016, 2020 and 2023) because he never got sanctioned for any of his other hits. So his legal team can use his "Clean" record as a defence, which is the issue we have because the whole reason his record is so "clean" is because he never gets punished for it.

    They basically said the fact that Taine Basham suddenly changed direction, because he was being tackled, caused him to dip and that's mitigation to reduce the sanction to a yellow card. What an absolutely disgraceful decision. It does not take into account that Owen Farrell's body height is always upright and that he lifts his height to make the no arms tackle. It was a red card offence and he should have been banned for it.
    To make matters worse there's footage of George Moala tip-tackling a Canadian player, where he let's the player go in the air and causes him to land on his side and back. Under the guidelines for this type of tackle I believe this was a yellow card at worst and yet he has been suspended for 10 weeks and has a relatively clean judicial record when compared to Farrell's. What an absolute disgrace World Rugby. Sort it out!

    Farrell’s daddy is a high profile international coach. That’s the only difference between Owen and other repeat foul play artists. The old boy club still has too much influence in the back rooms of rugby. In this case, Farrell senior even had the audacity to complain about the red card in public. He should have kept his mouth shut, but he just couldn’t help himself. He should have fixed Owen’s dangerous play years ago, but didn’t. He doesn’t see a problem. Tells you all you need to know.

    • @2earache
      @2earache Рік тому

      You are very wrong in your first sentence pronouncement. Mitigation allows or should allow a concentrated viewing to be focussed on whether the offending player had issues coming into that contact point, and whether it be unavoidable in any possible way. Only then can judgement be passed. If there is absolute clarity that a player had no intention whatsoever of displaying his contact aggression or even ability to tackle according to already laid down regulations, then the word ‘mitigation’ ceases to be.
      We all know that more and more rules over the years have been introduced to not only improve the quality of the game but to, out of necessity, protect as best as possible the potential health damage to any of those involved in this violent sport.
      These rules have to develop and develop in absolute consistency if they are to work. Like every new idea, they must evolve and hopefully evolve as rapidly as possible. If you reflect on the head-on clashes from the 1980’s over the following 25 year period, the collisions were absolutely brutal, just savage. For whatever reason, that was one of the appeals in those days. It was inevitable that to lengthen both the quality of the player’s top performance and his need to lead a healthy lifestyle off the field too, then these changes had to kick in. Please remember both the past and the future and notice overall how beneficial the shift in the game has become. World Rugby as an officiating body of course has an awful lot to answer for - just as the FIA representing Formula 1 has its room full of muddled, incoherent old men meandering about and navel-gazing - but with all the pressure from the coaching staff, many clubs and players, a way of satisfaction will be established and we can all move forward.

      I’m sorry but being Owen Farrell does not constitute mitigation… head collision that Willemse had this weekend had mitigation (I still would have given red considering they want to put down head contact but no ban it would be fair) in that situation it would have been very hard to avoid a head in collision… now compare that to this case and not the same… Owen as he always does purposefully went for the shoulder charge… maybe he did t aim for the head but shoulder chargers like this are illegal for this very reason… it’s reckless, dangerous and even a school boy knows better… Had I even done that at school rugby I probably would have been banned from ever representing my school back then…

It seems the tmo's and /or refs rule on written down laws, but you can ask any decent judge this and they will tell you they rule on actual events not written down laws.

    My view at the time was that the red card was correct and that still remains my view. The justification from the independent Judicial Committee(IJC) was that the actions of George (making a tackle) cause Basham to significantly change directions. In one sense the IJC was correct, George's actions did push Basham and cause him to change direction
    BUT...George's actions did not cause Basham to change his height. So I am left with the conclusion that OF was always going to get his shoulder/upper arm into Basham's head, all George's action did was determine which point of Basham's head would receive OF's shot.

The on field officials all agreed that it was a 'no arms tackle' and head contact with high degree of danger, thus red card. The utter nonsense of passing a clear red card decision to the tmo seems ludicrous to me. Nevertheless the decision to overturn the red card is disgraceful. They preach fairness and safety and then do this. Appalling.

    To be honest, I'm not surprised. It's England, and Bill Beaumont is in charge, after all. This is, however, clear evidence that the game is no longer the gentleman's game. Rugby is corrupt, and here's the evidence. I mean, if he landed a punch, they probably would've said it was just an innocent muscle spasm or the player stretching his arm and therefore accidental. Could you see the same outcome if this was a South African, a New Zealander, or even an Aussie? This fits perfectly with World Rugby's backing of controversial refereeing decisions. They've finally lost all credibility and respect... not that they had much left before. DISGRACEFUL!!!

    According to @RugbyAnalyst, the ruling was overturned by an independent committee of Australians. I personally don't think the red card should have been overturned, but it is over-dramatic and a misrepresentation to claim World Rugby and RFU have some inside deal and are the same. In fact, World Rugby had barely anything to do with the ban being lifted because it was done through an independent judicial committee who all happened to be ex-wallabies. So, the blame for the red card being overturned has to be placed on Australia, which your Southern Hemisphere bias may have led you to purposefully miss that information out of your video.

    Thank you once again for sharing your insights and for your comprehensive analysis.
    To say World Rugby have exposed their own inconsistencies is something of any understatement, as you say; World Rugby = RFU. Their handling of their “poster child” is embarrassing and is doing untold harm to the game.
    IMHO, it is their confusing message around player safety that led to the infamous video of Rassie instructing Esterhuizen to tackle high. While I do not condone this, it illustrates the frustration of coaches and players alike.
    All we want is a hard, fair contest with player safety at the forefront. I fear that not much will change in this regard until Bill Beaumont is removed from his position.
    As you say, this bunker system could have been a good thing but they have contradicted themselves (effectively sabotaging its usefulness) in one biased move. My fear is that a player’s career could be ended as a result of the precedent that has been set.
    My sincere hope is that before the kick off of the World Cup they recognise the error of their ways and do an abrupt about turn. It’s World Rugby, somehow this may not happen, with egos like Uncle Bill involved I fear that England will continue to enjoy the rub of the green.
    A word goes out the to refs and the match officials who’s decisions have been undermined.
    Is this event enough for representatives and officials (and perhaps even sponsors) to make their voices heard ? For the fans and players alike ?
