Mesmerizing. Your playing is incredibly graceful as is the sound you lift from the piano, it's like being at the ballet. And, your hands are beautiful too, they look like they were designed specifically to to be the strong graceful hands of an artist. Your hands move the way I remember Nureyev and Fontaine moving. Not many people left who remember them. Thank you for playing for us, it's a true privilege to hear you.

Beautiful ! Glad to hear a pianist doing the arpeggios the way it is actually written at 1:38 !!! And now from the bottom to the top as everyone does …

Inspirational. My stretch goal for this year is to be able to play this piece. I'll probably need to adjust a few of those chords for my small hands, but most of it seems doable! I'm sure I could spend years working on the musicality of this piece; the skill ceiling is so high, but it's simple enough for a less experienced player to get started

    That was amazing, good job.
I'd stop entertaining these "critics" with nothing better to do than leave silly comments.
Artist decides how he plays a piece, all versions are good, all are pretty, all are valid.

I really liked your performance. It inspired me to learn the piece.
It’s fun to listen to pieces that are extremely played. Recording those takes courage. I really enjoyed the things you brought up in this one. I like your Debussy

An animated (not yet existing) painting of Monet comes to mind, ripples in the lily pond -- Why not create an immersive experience with Denis Zhdanov as the art director and pianist for Debussy's music and... 💐🥀🌷🪻🌱

loved your arabesque and loved this, your debussy in on point!
I don't get why you often get negative comment in your videos lmao, the tempo critique seems such bs

      Thank you!
Critique can be helpful, but most negative comments are often subjective or unreasonable. Genuine experts usually don't offer valuable feedback for free; you'd need to pay for their criticism. That's why you won't likely find me commenting on a UA-cam piano performance, saying it's bad 😂

Nice! Denis, how/when do you use the left pedal here?

    • @DenZhdanovPianist
      @DenZhdanovPianist  4 місяці тому

Depends on the acoustics and piano, but the main danger of the left pedal is that it often makes the higher register dull, while I really want them to have a bit of brilliance

1:01 here I guess. At least I would.
And in some parts before 1:00
Pedaling is about feeling where a note "asks" to be pressed

it is way too slow… this piece should be 3 ½ minutes tops!

BS, most decent interpretations are around 5min or more. I don’t say that it can’t be good if played faster, but the opposite is as wrong.

@@DenZhdanovPianist Doubt. If you know the inspiration Debussy took prom the poem, it is about insomnia out of love and wanting to dance to express emotions and romantic thoughts.
The tempo should be faster like to a dance and more fluctuating in fact.

@@DenZhdanovPianist Also it sounds much better when it is faster as the phrases flow into each other... lake dancing reflection of water under the moonlight.

I created a Clair de Lune playlist with 30 different versions. The average piece in the playlist is almost exactly 5 minutes. The longest piece is 7:01 (Kaori Muraji) and the shortest is 4:20 (Barenboim).
