    Great video. Thanks for putting this together. A minor issue. Your final test using the mke-600 with mixpre 3 ii - the audio is slightly out of phase with the video. Did you use the timecode out feature of the mixpre?

      Thanks for the comment - I didn't actually use the timecode feature, but I synced the audio file to the video file separately in post using FCPX. Perhaps I maybe slightly mis-aligned the files.

    It actually doesn't require phantom power. I can also be battery powered.

    The problem with Basic Mode on the MixPre's is that it limits you to 48k recording, which is a really inexplicable choice by Sound Devices. If you want to make a straight-forward recording in the best quality why do they force you to use Advanced Mode?
    I'd also urge SD to include mp3 recording in these units. Sony did that on the D100 (which also has very nice preamps) and it comes in handy. If you need to record an informational interview not intended for broadcast why use up all the space on your SD card with a wav file? And if you need to do a very long recording where you have to leave the recorder unattended the whole time mp3 would let you record for days. They could also implement recording in both wav and mp3 as a backup or for quick transfer to a client for review.
    Speaking of unattended recording, I've always wished digital recorders would include an *on/off timer record function* that would let you set up your recorder in the woods for a nature recording starting at 4am the next day. (This function would be easy to add to these devices) Then you could sleep late! FBI folks would also appreciate that, for surveillance use. (They never sleep late.)

    wow sounds great im getting the same set up with a aurray anti twist pole and marantz blimp

    I'm using the exact same set up. I even did a factory reset to follow you along from square one. I'm not getting a green light on the mke 600 after enabling phantom power, no matter how many times I try. Any ideas? I tried with the battery in and out, and still nothing. Getting desperate lol. Thanks for the vid, though!

      Hey Angus. I don't have batteries in my MKE600, and have the switch to OFF on the Mic, and once I plug the mic into the MixPre-3 using the XLR to XLR cable, it works fine with the Green light being on too. My MixPre-3 is powered via Wall Plug. Not sure if any of that would resolve your issue, as I'm not sure why you would be getting that issue - if all else fails, maybe a fault with your mic? Glad my video helped you follow along nonetheless!

    If I get, does the sound from the Sound Devices get rcorded on the camera sd card? Are they separate?

    • @TrendingReviews
      @TrendingReviews  3 роки тому +1

      It is separate. You have to sync them together with the video in post; i.e. When you import it into your video editing program. This is a lot easier than it sounds, takes me just an extra 5 seconds per video recording clip before I start editing the video.
      However, there is a way to sync it with your video recording, using Timecodes. Here is a video showing that: ua-cam.com/video/LQmKJI1ZoZA/v-deo.html

    How do you connect the recorder to your camera if your MixPre 3 doesnt have a line out?

    • @TrendingReviews
      @TrendingReviews  4 роки тому

      I don't. I record video and audio seperately, and sync it up in post-editing. It seems like it would be difficult, but believe it, its actually easier than you think and maybe adds on an extra 1 min of work. Thats all.
