Well i was two or three years younger than this actors when the 1st movie came out. In my case, although they were part of me while growing, i don't hold nostalgia nor any kind of emotional feeling and that's why i'm all on board with the TV show while others seems not wanting to know anything about this remake cause they feel that the actors are irreplaceable and would not be the same.

The first 2 were amazing. I remember watching Philosopher Stone on video tape and loving it. Quirrell and Voldemort terrified me at the end. Chamber was the first movie I saw in the cinema. I have rewatched both countless time. Chris Columbus done such a great job.

I think Chamber Of Secrets is so underrated, Harry was growing up in that one and he encountered his first Horcrux the diary which ends up playing a role, Ron and Hermoine go back to the Chamber to use the Basilisk fang again. They learn about Polyjuice Potion and met Lucius Malfoy, who turned out to be a major Death Eater. I loved Richard Harris as Dumbledore as well. The Basilisk was one of Harry's toughest battles ever. Chamber was quite dark and scary for a kids movie, Chris done an amazing job. I think Chris nailed it with the first 2 films Philosopher and Chamber are both so underrated by fans. My least favorites are the David Yates movies. They still had good moments but Chris, Alfonso and Newell all done a better job. After Goblet being such a high, OOTP and HBP were very meh, I think Yates made some mistakes. The films were too black imo, in the previous films there was a magic and old school vibe. Some of the later films were a bit boring. I didn’t like when Harry cut his hair so short in Order either.

Deathly Hallows Part 1 is in my top 3 movies specifically because of the slow-burn drawn-out focus on the relationship between the trio. I wouldn't want any other movies to follow it's format, but to me it is the perfect film representation of the moment before the end. We know terrible things are coming, in the way that we know the end of the series is coming -- but we just want to hold onto what we know a little bit longer. After spending so much time throughout the series going on crazy adventures, we are reminded that at the centre of it all are these three teenagers who are still coming to terms with themselves, who love each other very much, and who are given a task which seems impossible but neccessary. If Part 1 was any different, I would have hated Part 2 for not having any emotional gravity and just whipping through plot and action, but it allows us to time getting closure with the characters we know best.
My other two faves are POA and OOTP :)

Apparently I'm the only one who has Order of the Phoenix as his favorite :(
+ Umbridge, I know people hate her character but I just absolutely love the way she's portrayed perfectly by Imelda Staunton
+ They were actually able to fit 668 pages (by far the biggest book) into a movie with some awesome editing, like the newspaper scenes when Umbridge takes over Hogwards.
+ The end fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort is easily the best duel scene of the entire series, possibly also the best fight scene
+ Badass Dumbledore moments, like the court scene in the beginning, and the one where he saves Trelawny from being banned from Hogwards
+ It had great humor and character moments, like the "emotional equivalent of a teaspoon" scene after Harry kissed Cho
+ It touches upon very serious adult lessons/themes, like losing Sirius
+ I love Prizoner of Azkaban too it's my second favorite probably, but compared to that movie, Order of the Phoenix has more mature / better acting from Harry Ron and Hermoine and the CGI effects are ofc way better too. I know that's not PoA's fault, but it's still a factor for me. Just look at the scene where Harry and Hermoine fight the Whomping Willow in PoA, it has aged pretty poorly.
I could go on and on about this movie, it's fantastic

My favorite is actually Goblet of Fire (not popular, I know haha).
In my opinion, I think Goblet of Fire provides the best mix of magic and fantasy, and realistic middleschool/highschool life and drama, which makes it extremely relatable and grounded, despite also having dragons, merpeople etc. It is also the first movie to introduce us to other wizarding schools around the world, which always consumes my mind with "I wonder how a school in [insert country of choice] would function?" or "what other ways can magic and culture be expressed?". On a technical level, there are several movies in the franchise that goes beyond Goblet of Fire, but no other movie rattles my brain more than the 4th installment.
The worst part of the movie, is Durmstrang. It just feels weird to have Durmstrang located in northern Scandinavia, but ONLY housing Bulgarians (in the movie). It is like having an ONLY Chinese cast to represent Uagadou in Africa. Although possible (I guess), it is just feels weird. Not sure why they didn't just have a mix of different people.
However, I know my view on the franchise is not popular considering that, despite having grown up with the films, I ALWAYS skip the first movie when doing a "marathon".
Although the 1st installment is a great entry, the slow pace and lackluster storyline just doesn't do it for me anymore. Plus, I like DARKNESS.

This is a good list. I always enjoy hearing the reasons why people place the movies in the order that they do. It's nice to hear so many different stories of why people love Harry Potter.
Here is my list of just the movies, in order, based on my favourite to least favourite...
    8. The Goblet of Fire. - I adore Michael Gambon, I truly do. But by Merlin's beard! I could not stand his portrayal of Dumbledore in this movie. To be perfectly honest, aside from a few stand out moments, this movie for me is THAT movie in the series, the "OK, let's get this over with." movie. It's the "Attack of the Clones" of the Harry Potter movies! You get the idea haha.
    7. The Deathly Hallows pt1. - My wife and I have a Harry Potter marathon every year, without fail. Sometimes two or three times a year. And we have done that for 11 years now. That being said, Apart from a certain house elf meeting his end. I could not tell you what else happened in this movie. I could watch this movie, sit a test about it immediately afterwards, and still fail it.
    6. The Deathly Hallows pt2. - It was better than part 1, that's all I can say.
5.The Half-Blood Prince. Everything I said about Michael Gambon's Dumbledore, in The Goblet of Fire, is the complete opposite in this movie. I love his Dumbledore in this one. In fact I actually love a lot about this movie. The reason why I've put it rather low is because, Although I loved a lot of it, what I didn't like, I hated with fiery passion. The teen romance stuff? Hated. The fact that we didn't get a proper look into Voldemort's past? Hated. I have a soft spot for villains and for me, this was the movie that should have told us Voldemort's story. But instead we got too much teenage, romance, drama, BS.
    4. The Philosophers Stone. - I know what you're thinking. "WHAT?! How dare you put this under The Chamber of Secrets! You monster!" I know, I know. But I have my reasons and I'll get to them. But as for this movie, I adore it, so much, and going back to it always makes me feel like I'm eight years old again. I'm now 29 and listening to my four year old daughter laughing at the troll scene, when he gets a wand up his nose, brings a whole new level of magic to the viewing experience for me.
    3. The Chamber of Secrets. - The reason this movie is my third favourite movie, above The Philosophers Stone, is more because of my experience at the cinema, when it came out. I was nine years old, at the Warner Brothers Cinema (which is now VUE) in Bolton. While waiting for my parents to get the tickets, my brother and I was chasing the WB logo that was moving around the floor, in lights, eventually I was sat, with my child size popcorn. Dido was playing through the speakers, for some reason, and after unimaginable excitement, the movie finally started. I laughed, I got scared, and I was completely immersed in the story and the world. When the movie finished the whole room applauded and cheered, I had never experienced that before and haven't since. So yeah the reason it ranks this high is because it takes me back to a beloved memory, so I am biased.
    2. Order of the Phoenix. - This movie only just loses out to my number one pick, by like a fraction of a hair. It's such a great movie, and Imelda Staunton did an amazing job as Umbridge. I just can't praise it enough, it's brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
    1. The Prisoner of Azkaban. - If The Goblet of Fire is my "Attack of the Clones" of the Harry Potter Franchise. The Prisoner of Azkaban is my "Empire Strikes Back". If someone came to me and said that I had one shot to get them into the Harry Potter franchise, I would show them this movie. The first movie, made me curious. The second movie, got my attention. The third movie, made a fan.

My best to worst are: Philosopher's stone, Goblet of fire, Azkaban, Chamber of secrets, Order of the Phoenix, Half blood prince, the last two. I don't know if it because of my age (I was almost 40 when the first book came out) but the films lost all their magic for me after Order of the Phoenix. So much was miss out & replaced with utter rubbish (the start of the half blood prince & the ending of Hallows
part 2 ) that I have never watched them again (I have tried but get so annoyed I can't finish them) I still listen to the books (read by Stephen Fry) which if you haven't done that you really should . I've listened to it hundreds of times & still love it.

I’m glad we can at least agree that Goblet of Fire is the worst of the films. Skipping the entire Quidditch World Cup is frankly unforgivable, but the rest of the movie doesn’t do much to make up for it, either. Directors should be required to read the source material. They’re certainly paid enough to do a little homework.

    8.) Order of the Phoenix
    Pros:
1.) Daniel Radcliffe’s acting in this film is absolutley fantastic

3.) Even though I hate her character, Imalda Stanton who plays Umbridge was a wonderful addition to the cast
4.) The duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort is so stunning
    Cons:
1.) I think there is a lot of filler in the movie that didn't need to be there
2.) They cut way to much out of the book
3.) The department of mysteries scene is way to CGI for me personally
    7,) Deathly Hallows part one
    Pros:
    1.) The trios acting
    2.) The cinematography
3.) Some really intense action scenes
    Cons:
1.) Way too long and drawn out
2,) Harry and Ginny’s scene in beginning is way to cringe

They cut a perfect amount of the book for the adaptation of Order Of The Phoenix. The book is far too long even JK admitted it. The Goblet Of Fire is a perfect example of a bad adaptation. It destroyed all the themes of mystery from the book, the director was by the most unenthusiastic out of the other directors

I was a father of three young kids when this film series came out and I might be the biggest HP fan in our family. They are like my second round of movie addiction, the first being Star Wars from my childhood.

    8. Goblet of Fire

After watching the entire saga as a new fan, my list from best to worst would be:
    1. Philosophers/Sorcerer’s Stone - Arguably the most iconic to starting it all! I just loved watching this movie and it set the stage of me becoming a fan after so many years of missing out on the hype decades ago. It was definitely a kids movie where acting was definitely notably mediocre but the sense of setting the stage and seeing everyone so young makes me miss the moments of my childhood.
    2. Prisoner of Azkaban - Technically would be the best film of all HP movies imo but the first movie just has the nostalgia and spotlight of starting it all for me. PoA is great at exploring the darker elements of the movie while still having that balance of school and magical fantasy feeling.
    3. Goblet of Fire - number 3 because of all the mixed elements of magic, school, tension, and chaos happening, and how could we not forget about the iconic hairstyles of all the male casts (particularly Harry and Ron).
    4. Chamber of Secrets - Had a difficult time rating this one if it should have been above or below Half-Blood Prince. I placed it 4th on my list because it displayed the most plentiful amount of different angles regarding Hogwarts. I actually liked the long length of the movie and felt compelled of the suspense and mystery of the film of what lies deep in the Chamber etc.
    5. Half-Blood Prince - I liked this movie because it shows Harry’s most developed portrayal as both a sixth year student and a proficient wizard who can handle himself in combat. This was the last movie at Hogwarts before chaos reigned and Voldemort was winning etc. What I did not like much about this movie was the way they made this movie so focused on identifying the mystery of the memories and the quest Dumbledore assigned Harry to retrieve. Acting is a big improvement tho and the romantic aspects were cute.
    6. Order of the Phoenix - Honestly Umbridge and the school was a bit different and some moments were good and others weren’t, but mostly bad. This is where the Room of Requirement was first introduced and Harry was now trying to teach others how to properly fight. I just didn’t like the whole Harry and Cho getting together and breaking up thing because it just felt weird and out of place. the only reason I didn’t place this last was because they introduced Luna Lovegood, who is my favorite Ravenclaw (fellow Ravenclaw here) and the ending sequences from the order fight to a 1v1 matchup between Voldemort and Dumbledore was perfect (Favorite matchup of the whole saga). I also loved Harry fighting back against Voldemort’s mind control and the flashbacks of him and his family and friends from the previous movies; that shii made me tear up
    7. Deathly Hallows Pt.2 - Liked the action scenes and the build up leading to the final battle. However, I still thought some parts of the movie were either boring or just rushed. Ending was pretty disappointing and I felt like some of the deaths were just flat out disrespectful. Regardless, I thought this movie was wayyyyy better than part one but still in the bottom of my list.
    8. Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 - Boring for 2/3 of the movie. Honestly was so confused why they even made it so boring of a movie. Only parts that were kind of interesting was the ending parts and learning about the deathly hallows but I still currently couldn’t understand why they focused heavily on the trio and their survival and figuring out how to destroy horcruxes. I guess they only just did that to set up the second film.
I ranked it this way because I loved the school vibes and aesthetics in Harry Potter movies and after Order of the Phoenix, you can tell that the movie was losing lots of it magical elements and focused more on the action sequences and darker plots. I missed just seeing the main trio having fun together in Hogwarts and the lighter aspects from movies 1-3. Now on to binge reading the books to get a better understanding of why HP is so beloved by many haha

Goblet of fire stands alone, I think. My thought is how can a director know the point of the film without reading the books or at the very least, the book he is doing the film about. So, Goblet of Fire, while entertaining and helps with Neville's character and a few other character developments, is a dismal failure.
It is a shame they allowed him to do the film. I would think it would be his last film to dirrect due to his inability to bring the point across due to his ineptness.

I was a working adult by the time the books and movies were released. It wasn’t until after my daughter was born and was old enough that I watched the movies. My ranking is based on the view of a fan who hasn’t read the books and has no bias for comparison. However, this is something that I’ve just recently began to rectify by starting to read the books.
    1. Prisoner of Azkaban: This is not only my favorite in the series, but one of my favorite movies period. It still maintains some of the charm and wonder of the first 2 movies while definitely delivering a darker and more serious tone. It also introduces a lot really cool things and new characters.
    2. Sorcerer’s Stone: This one is the most fun and magical of all of the movies, a great start to the theatrical franchise.
    3. Order of the Phoenix: Has there ever been a character that you love to hate more than Dolores Umbridge? She’s absolutely perfect in this role. Harry, Hermione, and Ron truly grow up in this movie.
    4. Half Blood Prince: The dynamic between Snape and Harry in this movie is perfect. I felt like this was the first movie where I really understand who Snape is, even though I fully thought he had committed one of the worst betrayals ever. Alan Rickman was amazing!
    5. Chamber of Secrets: Great follow up as a sequel that maintained all of the charm and wonder of the first movie.
    6. Deathly Hallows Part 2: I thought the final chapter was quite riveting, particularly when they infiltrate Gringotts and escape on the dragon. I too felt like the epilogue was rushed and underwhelming, like the director already had one foot out the studio door.
    7. Deathly Hallows Part 1: A little too slowly paced and I had a hard time understanding Ron’s inner turmoil and struggles. I think this was poorly developed and to me he mostly came across as a selfish jerk.
    8. Goblet of Fire: It’s funny that HPT lists this as the one the diverged the most from the source material. I never read the books, but it always felt to me like the least of the Harry Potter Movies. It not only lacked the charm and wonder of the first 2 movies, but it also failed to deliver on the darker and grittier themes like Prisoner, Phoenix, and Half Blood Prince did. Having said that, Goblet of Fire is still a good movie compared to a lot of other movies and film franchises.

My list is a tiny bit diferent. My number one is Order of the Phoenix because it was so well adapted considering it is the longest book of the series. I was so scared after movie 4 I though "there's no way they improve this mess is movie 5 with a longer book to adapt" and they did it! They cut a lot but still the story had sense and was good. My second place of course is Philosophers Stone because it was able to set how the series was going to be and it did it perfectly. The next spot is for Prisoner of Askaban because cuaron did his own thing and still was able to blend with the other films. The little details like aunt Marge fliying in the sky and the bird with the whompping willow in every season was just perfect. Next is Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 in that order because it actually was a good idea to split them in two due the difference of mood of the book itself. You can feel the sadness in part one and the determination in part two. In the next spot is Half Blood Prince although they put way more atention to romance for my taste which it didn't even help the Ginny plot at all. And the very last spots are for Chamber of Secrets and Globlet of Fire in that order. Columbus wasn't very good at giving it's own personality to the film something quite important because the movie needs to stands to it's own too. David for example did give each movie a personality even tho you still see that he was the one directing it. Chris intead kinda did a copy paste thing. Now Mike is a diferent story... I know that in important for a director to put your own print on a film in fact Cuaron did it very clearly but still you need to fit in the overall story and he kinda fail on that plus the script was shoppy or maybe was the editing I don't know but it has issues and what makes it worse is that is one of my faves book of the series so I will never forget the "Harry, did you put your name in the goblet of fire?" Dumbledore asked Calmly part.

For me, the first three spots are occupied by Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, and Prisoner of Azkaban. The first two, because of the wonderful sense of discovery of this world, and the third, for the introduction of Lupin and Black. All three, due to the wondrous music of John Williams. None of the other films match this.
After that, my order would be:
    Deathly Hallows
    Half Blood Prince
Order of the Phoenix (although the introduction of Luna was a real treat)
Goblet of Fire (which is almost universally considered the worst of the lot)

The books are WAY better, but I do love the films too. The Order of the Phoenix they failed; I think. They left out all the stuff about the swamp in the corridor and other things I felt should have been in the film and so this one is my second to least favorite. In The Chamber of Secrets, I think they could have done a better job of showing the situation of Lockhart and Neville's parents. The way they reviled Neville's pride in his parents in the DA was shotty at best where as his reactions to them in the book in the hospital was a much better way to reveal this. Deathly Hollows Part II was by far the worst film. They botched the ending completely. The way the movie portrayed it, no one in the wizarding world would know Voldemort was dead nor that Harry killed him which was the point of the whole series to some degree. Harry's reason to be alive was to destroy Voldemort. Like Snape said, in part, "keep him alive like a pig for slaughter."

Prizoner of Azkaban was my favorite for sure. For me, it captured the magic to a whole other level. I found it to be close enough to the source material that at no moment it pulled me out of it. Artistically, it's beautiful, the acting is a huge leap above the preveous two, and I think the core story was most accurately portrayed in this one. I rewatch it all the time, its a banger.
Very much agree about goblet of fire being the weakest. For me, goblet of fire (the book) was all about mystery. Though the whole book, you and Harry are in the dark about essentially everything that's happening to him. You don't know who put his name in the goblet of fire, you don't know who killed Barty Crouch, you don't understand how the opeing sceen is attached, you're not particularly suspicious of mad eye, and you have no idea why any of it is happening. You're along for the ride, learing as Harry does. And when it finally comes together at the end, it's all heartbreaking, terrifying, and relieving all at once. Both for the reader and Harry. I think the book is brilliant and despite being long, you're hooked the whole time. Honestly, might be my favorite book. The movie captures none of these feelings for me. All of the mystery is revealed at the beginning and you're just waiting for Harry to figure it out himself. The magic of the world is mostly there in the cinematography, but the story was thrown in the toilet for me. I'll still watch it and enjoy it, but i just love the book so much that it's just disappointing. I think with a different director that kept true to the material, the story could have carried the film to being the best in the series no question.

The first is the best in my opinion. Later movies had too much action and too little reflection. Beginning of this trend is really noticeable in Goblet of Fire, where characters rush all the time, and plot just jumps from one tournament event to the other. I agree that this seems to be the weakest of the films (and I started to write it before I heard your opinion).

  • @Lancerious
    @Lancerious 10 місяців тому +1

Here's my list, best to worst! I love and adore all the movies, so a movie being lower on the list does NOT equate to me hating or even disliking it, so keep that in mind. Also I haven't seen most of the movies in a good while and don't remember how true the movies were to the books, so there's that too lol.
    1. Chamber of Secrets, my reasoning behind this is I ADORE how eerie it is, it's arguably the movie (and book too) that has the most unsettling undertones. Great plot, follows the book fairly closely (I think), just super underrated. The ONE SINGULAR issue I have with this movie is Lockhart, I HATE this man so much, he drives me INSANE. Other than him though, the movie's perfect!
    2. Order of the Phoenix, fight me. Order of the Phoenix has always been my fav Harry Potter book and is slightly bested by the Chamber of Secrets movie. Why do I like it so much? Heck if I know tbh, I remember liking how long the book was but as for the movie I genuinely have no clue. Seeing Sirius die was pretty sad though, and I admittedly don't find Umbridge THAT annoying, which is not a common opinion I'm sure. I liked Bellatrix too, as crazy as she is. Luna Lovegood is another highlight for me. Also the Dumbledore's Army plot point was VERY enjoyable to me, I wish they had more time dedicated to it but what we got is pretty decent.
    3. Goblet of Fire. I remember REALLY loving the Triwizard Tournament focus in the movie, I think it's one of the movies that follows the book a relatively decent amount, albeit it's of course not perfect. You can prove me wrong, I haven't watched the movies in a while. Goblet of Fire is pretty neat, I also like that joke of Dumbledore literally shouting "HARRY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!", also Barty Crouch Jr. disguised as Moody is nice. And I HAVE to mention that scene where Voldemort comes back, that's some good stuff imo.
    4. Half-Blood Prince. I remember not really liking this movie (and book) in my days of obsessing over Harry Potter, and I wish I could ask my younger self why. This movie is SO good, part of me wonders how I like Order of the Phoenix and Goblet of Fire more. I would say the movie is really tight and tried to put in as much from the book as possible, again prove me wrong if I'm mistaken. Seeing Dumbledore die was pretty sad, I always liked that character, though this is also ironically the movie that made me LOVE Snape.
    5. Deathly Hallows Pt. 2. The final movie! I think Pt. 1 helped elevate Pt. 2, as Pt. 1 mostly served as the buildup. I loved the battle at Hogwarts, that is probably one of my favorite Harry Potter plot points. Seeing Voldemort finally die was nice too, felt pretty satisfying. Not really much to say here, I think it's a decent conclusion to the primary Harry Potter series.
    6. Deathly Hallows Pt. 1. I mean what can I say, it's the buildup to Pt. 2, that's really about it. The flying scene near the beginning was neat, pretty sad that Moody died, it was more impactful in the books though I would say. Though, I LOVE the very first scene with Voldemort and the Death Eaters, that is ICONIC. Most of the movie is Harry, Ron, and Hermione dealing with horcruxes which is decent enough but still, it got a bit boring at times. Not too bad overall though.
    7. Prizoner of Azkaban. The main reason this movie is lower on my list is because I'm not a fan of all the time up until Hogwarts. Once the characters are in Hogwarts, it gets REALLY good. The movie also introduced one of the best characters in the form of Sirius, as well as other fan favorites like Lupin. But this movie is also at fault for introducing Peter Pettigrew, whom I despise, much more than Umbridge. And DEMENTORS, I LOVE DEMENTORS, one of the best aspects of the movie straight-up. This movie would be higher on my list if not for Peter Pettigrew and the first however many minutes until everyone's at Hogwarts.
    8. Philosopher's/Socerer's stone. Yes I know, it's the first one, it should be higher, but I dunno, I never liked the first film, and book, all too much. It DOES get credit for being the first, absolutely, and it introduces all the main characters. But even so, I can't bring myself to put it any higher, as I like all the other films--and books--more. I think it's an EXCELLENT movie in terms of setting up the world-building, characters, and more, but yeah, I never liked it as much as others do unfortunately. It also stays REALLY close to the book from what I remember, which is always good.

    My list:
1: The Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) This movie is almost the polar opposite of Part 1, aside from having very dark themes. While Part 1 is mostly uninteresting, Part 2 is NONSTOP action. After the agonizingly boring setup of all the events in the first film, this movie throws expertly crafted action, mystery and even silent scenes at you with no sign of stopping. The opening with the Gringotts break in is exceptional and the movie only gets better. Every scene dedicated to finding and destroying the horcruxes is excellent and the final battle with Voldemort is one of, if not the greatest scenes in the entire franchise. The flashback with Snape, Dumbledore and Harry is an almost life changing scene. And the ending scene where our protagonists gather to send their children off to Hogwarts is pretty wholesome. All this movie had to do was stick the landing but it manages to perfectly blend action and payoff with inspirational speeches, continue to unfold the mystery aspect and give this 8 film franchise the perfect ending.
2: The Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) The timeline of events in this movie is quite different from the book, but I honestly like it much more in this film. I can’t think of a single thing being wrong aside from Dumbledore slapping Ron’s broken leg like bruh. But other than that, so much is done with just the imagery. Harry flying on buck-beak is great and the Werewolf scenes are great. Best of all I think is Harry and Lupin’s gradual progression of learning how to defeat the dementors and cope with fear.
3: The Order of the Phoenix (2007) This movie manages to take the most boring and drawn out books in the franchise with a ton of filler into a cinematic masterpiece. Nothing is wasted in this film. The story is perfect and the build up of Dumbledore’s army is really well done. The score is great, and the action scenes work. The final battle scene is incredible and lasts a long time. (Please give us more magical fight scenes and less awkward romance David Yates)
4: The Chamber of Secrets (2002) This one is criminally underrated. It’s a bit long, but it’s an improvement over the original in almost every way. The mystery aspect is intensified and really compelling, Ron and Hermione have a lot of better moments in this one, the faith to the original book is almost perfect and the final battle with Tom Riddle and the Basilisk is so freaking good. Also the CGI is a lot better despite only being made a year later.
5: The Philosopher’s Stone (2001) This film is a good introduction to the Magic universe and setting up Ron and Hermione as characters but I still think it’s just kinda ok. The plot is fine, the acting is fine and the mystery aspect is pretty good, but ultimately I don’t find it very interesting.
6: The Goblet of Fire (2005) This movie is generally pretty good and well paced compared to its predecessors. If it was an individual film it would probably stand well on its own, but it so poorly adapts the original book and so much weird stuff just happens, that I can’t realistically rank it much higher than here.
7: The Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010) This movie has a few great scenes, namely the Break-In at the Ministry of Magic, but so much of the movie is so boring with so little to even analyze that my attention takes a 2 hour lunch break. They’re literally just walking around a forest, village and countryside for like 40 minutes.
8: The Half Blood Prince (2009) I still like this movie overall (it’s a 6-7/10 for me) but the movie focuses so questionably on romance and attempting to be a comedy film that I lose interest and that’s a huge chunk of the movie, but other than that, the scenes focusing on Dumbledore, Voldemort, Harry, Draco and the Death Eaters are excellent.

The 6th book is probably my 2nd favourite after the 1st, because of how dark and bloody it is. 5th book was fun with all the group activities but 6th (book)was mesmerising.

@@alanchamberlain9902 I liked GOF, but if the director could have just read the book and achieve a good overview I think it could have been better. It was an action filled movie with the horror aspect, but the director Newell was merely copying the mood set by POA's director and couldn't come up with his own style.
Dumbledore yelling "Did you put your name in the goblet?" at Harry was so out of character some in the audience moaned in disgust. Also we never got the triumphant look from Dumbledore when he was told Voldemort took Harry's blood. All because the director never read the book and to be honest Goblet is my favorite book.
Of course they had to cut most of the book out, but the director cut some of the best parts out as well and like the reviewer said there was not much in the way of character development. There was some character assassination though.🤣

@@alanchamberlain9902 Each film could have easily been 3 hours long to tell the full story, if needed. That way 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th films could've been so much better and more complete. And perhaps 7th wouldn't need to be split in 2 parts.
Not to mention that they cut important parts of the story while filling time with useless crap that wasn't even in the books (6th film especially). That's just a crime what they did with the movies.

My list goes something like this:
    8. Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 1 (I mean I get that it is just supposed to build into the second part, and it does that fairly well. But unfortunately it also ends up being rather long and at times annoying. I also really dislike this tension between Ron and Harry. It feels as though Ron just completely forgets that everyone is fked if they don't find the horcruxes and destroy them. I just don't think that is the Ron that has been built up from the previous movies. And you could argue that it is because they are wearing the horcrux that the tension arises, but I don't really like that kind of trope either. Not a bad movie, none of them are, but it's the worst one I think)
    7. Harry Potter and the philosophers stone (It's cute, it's a start and it introduces the world well. It still ends up stale compared to later entries, but that's more because the later entries can build upon this one. While the music is fine here, it's still outclassed by later movies)
    6. Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets (The basilisk is pretty cool. The movie is pretty cool. I like the presence of the character Gilderoy Lockhart, he is amusing if not particulary likeable. As the first movie, it tends to be a bit too "innocent" so to speak, and a bit stale. Not bad by any means, I like it, just outdone by later movies)
    5. Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban (Now people will hate on me for putting it "this low". But the only reason it isn't higher, and it would have been otherwise, is because of time travel. I HATE time travel. It is such a useless plot device, because it adds infinite plot holes wherever it goes. Who is time travelling? Is everyone time travelling? Can't you just time travel and fix everything so there is no need for a plot alltogether? Can you really trust anyone? Maybe people are from the past maybe they are from the future, maybe they don't even exist, wtf? Other than that it has amazing soundtrack and it is amazing all-round otherwise, highly entertaining and well made)
    4. Harry Potter and the Half-blood prince (A genuinely nice movie alltogether. Some people don't like the "love" scenes but I think they make perfect sense. Harry and their gang is entering an age where love becomes a hot topic. And it is clumsy, and itzy and ditzy. I think the movie captures that perfectly. It has a more calm energy than all other movies while at the same time being the most tense movie. It is like a calm before the storm movie. I like it a lot)
    3. Harry Potter and the goblet of fire (I disagree with people who think this one is bad or even the worst one. I think it has so much going for it. There's a lot of action, tense feeling and an overall sense of wondering what's gonna happen next. I also think that mad eye moody/peter crouch jr. makes for an interesting sub-villain and the actor for alastar moody brings much charisma to the character. He may be an awful defence against the dark arts teacher but he is also very engaging. Another plus for the movie is the use of dragons, they are generally a nice addition to movies. What I disapprove of the most in this movie is how different Dumbledore is compared to all the other movies he's in. He seems to be losing his mind all the time, and it does as someone else pointed out feel like he is out of character. Besides even if he would be within character, I still think the more collected, wise Dumbledore is much more preferable)
    2. Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 2 (It wraps of the series in a really nice way. It's got great score, and great overall writing. It strikes the balance of a good ending quite nicely. Doesn't feel rushed nor drawn out too much either)
    1. Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix (This one is just too good and I can't imagine why people puts it on the bottom. I can't really see much flaws with it at all. It has an amazing sub-villain/main villain in Dolores Umbridge. It turns the tables and makes everyone but Slytherin the rebels in Hogwarts. I also love how the students unite like never before to fight a common evil: "the horrible new headmistress". Luna is a nice new addition to the series. The music is superb. It's great to finally see the famous aurors in action. And finally the epic showdown between Dumbledore and Tom to cement an already epic installment)
