The mascot is not for the Jubilee Year itself - it's a mascot /representing the Vatican/ and promoting the Jubilee at two events: a comic convention, with the aim of reaching young people going to that event, and an international exposition in Japan in which guest countries are participating and the Vatican was invited. Mascots are a commonality in Japan, NHK has a documentary about that in their Japanology series btw. The mascot is basically advertising. I think the source of the rage is merely that a certain group of people's aesthetic sensibilities was hurt, there is nothing wrong with the mascot being used at those events, and I think the creator of the mascot is being uncharitably judged for it. Behind all the vitriol, clickbait, misinformation and confusion being spread over this thing are other good things being associated to it, as young people have rightly adopted it and are using it to evangelize within pop culture. I don't think Luce is meant to be anything more than a mascot, and people are taking it waaaay too seriously.
Don't forget that the artist that designed Luce posted a pro LGBTQ post months ago, they could have chosen someone who is more Catholic to do the job, since their selection is sus, especially in our age and time of relativism.
I think it's funny and how they showed by hiring an artist that did an LGBTQ stuff... Makes them better than LGBTQ that cancels a small business because of their religious belief... It's actually a win since they are showing that they don't judge people based on their past... Lowkey a Jesus trait.
My only problem with tokidoki making mascots for the Jubliee is that they’ve made se* toys….. it goes back to your old episode about separating the art from the artists. I mean, we have to considering a lot of our greatest art, Catholic art, comes from some very non-Christian people. Also, a lot of Tokidoki's non-Christian stuff where made years ago, the last time they ever did something like that was in 2020 and haven't since, the owner of Tokidoki is supposedly now an ardent Catholic and hopefully it does continue to be that way.

Luce is genius. Wholesome and culturally relevant without being patronizing or preachy. They should do a whole line with each of the Saints.
