    Do you have any videos on Algebra word problems? Your videos are so easy to understand. Thank you for taking the time to post them.

    • @mathlearningmadeeasy
      @mathlearningmadeeasy  6 років тому

      Loretta I am so glad they help. I don’t think I do have any. Word problems was probably a topic I did in person with my students (these videos were for flipped learning or for student review if they missed a day). Word problems are always an issue for students so I feel for you. I have used a table method before but was also accused my some academics of that process being “over scaffolding”. I don’t teach math much anymore but I tell my students to remember that a word problem will always be something you know how to do in disguise. Usually the equations that come out actually are simpler. Also, always make sure at the end your answer makes sense. If you are trying to determine how long Susie will take to save money for a TV and you get 1.5 years, it is likely wrong! :) I wish I could be more help. Feel free to email me if you have a specific just realize my school year is still rolling along so it is a busy time!

    Yeah but what if it’s -40=12x+8

    • @bulletslider6897
      @bulletslider6897 5 років тому +1

      Always get the constants on one side of the equal sign, and the variables positive on the other side. Remember we use the "reverse order of operations"-- meaning, undo addition and subtraction first, before undoing multiplication and division.
      1) In your example, I would first subtract 8 from the right side. What you now have is: (-40)-8=12*x+0
      Plus 0 we generally dont tend to write... because 0+anything, is the original number.
      2) Simply the left hand side: (-40)-8 is really (-40)+(-8) or -48 on the left hand side = 12*x on the right side
      3) Now that x is being multiplied by 12... We need to undo multiplying by 12, with dividing by 12. So we divide both sides by 12. On the right we get: -48÷12= -4, and on the left, 12x÷12 is 1, and 1*x is just x on the left.
      For a final answer of x=-4
      To check, we plug the -4 in for x.
      -40=(12(-4)+8)
      On the left we get -40. On the right we simply using PEMDAS in order. 1) 12*(-4)=-48
      2) -48+8=-40
      -40=-40... True Statement
