The tradition of the Jesus Prayer and the Prayer of the Heart long proceeds the New Age cult, and is very unlike it. The New Age seeks to find enlightenment from created things, while the Prayer of the Heart seeks enlightenment from the Creator Himself, who dwells within those who have received Him in Baptism. The Kingdom is nothing other than God Himself. That’s why the Jesus Prayer addresses a Person, not some abstract force within us. The New Age cult does entice with the same sin that the Devil tempted Adam and Eve with-becoming God without God’s help.
