When this song came out I had a good friend that was battling cancer, unfortunately he lost the battle. So I can’t help having tears when I hear this song. So many people have lost loved ones, everyone can relate to the lyrics. At 3:14 your question about the repeated chorus is made by Stromae himself. (After seeing your video yesterday I saw part of his concert (you can view on YT) and Stromae is at the mic the whole time).
@@hildegardkurku3504 Thank you, you are very kind. I’m all right. I think the song got me because it was the first time I was hearing it again, since my friend passed away.
Yes it’s perfection. The entire Montreal concert is on UA-cam w English subtitles, which only give you surface translation of course, not all his brilliant word play, but the whole thing is magnificence.
I’m kind of late in life with going to concerts. I was like plus 20 when going to my first one, which was Racine Carrés and honestly I dunno if I’ll ever get a better concert experience
Word game with « Cancer » and « Quand c’est? » « when it’s happening? » he is minimalistic and he speaks soo clearly and sharp and direct to Cancer as this Thing would be the Evil one. He’s not hiding behind a strength or a supernatural power. He stay human and humble in front of this big « system » which is crushing lifes on and on …. Bravo et à continuer comme cela. Art is the escape plan of human being, creating instead of destructing.
You definitely need to check out the Racine Caree Live concert on his youtube channel, it's seriously one of the best concerts you'll ever see. The video description has timestamps so you can pick individual songs.
Hi Dereck. I'm not sure if you've ever seen the video of Stromae's hit "Formidable" that was recorded with one or two hidden cameras on a busy square in the centre of Brussels, one morning of a grey working day... Everybody in the video, even the policemen who recognised him from his music and his appearances on stage, was blissfully unaware of the fact that this was recorded on camera and that he was acting, and not at all totally drunk or having a hangover after drowning his broken heart with way too much alcohol that night... Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/S_xH7noaqTA/v-deo.html And then there's also "(The Making Of) Alors on danse", which is hilarious: ua-cam.com/video/HLw8L2Ncjf8/v-deo.html
Stromae is a genius indeed. Can’t wait to see him back on stage. I recommend you react to Yseult “Corps” or “Noir”. Amazing voice, amazing lyrics and amazing clips.
It is ART, it’s terrifying beautiful and beautifully terrifying. My Mum died of cancer. I’m terrified of it, but he captures everything and I want to keep watching it. Quand C’est means “When is it” or “When it’s “?” and the way that’s pronounced is also Cancer in French. Kon seh.
Yeah the translation is tricky with this one. The Quand c'est is a play-on-words, or rather, a on the sound of the words. What he sais is actually : when is, when is... Which sounds like "cancer" a little bit in French. It's quite clever. But then again, Stromae is a genius, so... 😉
It's very disrupt when at the begining of ur listening ur are like: oh wow. Like appreciate his way to singe. Because as a french, when I listen this music for the first time or not, the lyrics seems so sad!
the perfect way to encapsulate the experience of a Stromae song is, like you said, "he has the sound that you want every sing time" ain't no way around it
Stromae is such a genius ! Can I suggest you to react to the cover of this song, "Quand c'est" by Stromae by MB14, a finalist of The Voice France. His performance and interpretation were mindblowing. Thank you for this great video, love your reactions !
I discovered "Cancer" by Stromae at the beginning of my sister-in-law's chimio. Sadly, years later she left us, because of the following issues made by the cancer. My genitor got lungs cancer and survived, while smoking and drinking a lot, he still beat it and is no longer sick. Cancer does not descriminate.... even if a mother in her 40s should have lived, especially for my bro and their kids. It doesn't descriminate but i think that's the worst part of it and what Stromae is trying to tell, no matter who you are, good person or bad, it can happen to anybody. I found your channel and your francophone'songs reacts (and others) and I wanted to thanks you for giving credits to some of the most amazing francophone talents ! New subscriber from france !
I suggest you watch an entire live concert . just for your self. Its a complete show , humor , music dancing singing total evening filling program . Stromae - Racine Carrée Live (Full Concert) - UA-cam

Everything you see in the video comes all from him! The song is about cancer, the song is called “Quand c’est”, cause in french “Quand c’est” rhymes with cancer! Stromae always play with words in all of his songs, it’s is why he is known for his musics! Other songs really good by him are “Papaoutai”, a made up word rhyming with ”Daddy where are you in French”, “Formidable”, “Tous les mêmes”, “Carmen”, “Ta fête” By the way the name Stromae is the word Maestro but said in reverse, it was intentional of him for that name he had chose! It’s spoken Stro-maye without speaking the e at the end, the e at the end is muted!
Hi dereck, thank you for all you propose to listen with you 👍 Trust me you absolutely need to listen 3 songs for your review : 1) Te quiero - Stromae (crazy electro song) 2) Remind me - tribal jam (90's new jack Eng/French) 3) R'n'b de rue - Matt houston (French R'n'b from 2000) Let's go old school baby 🙌 Looking you from French Riviera Merci, continue et vive la France 🇫🇷👍💪

Uhm… no? He literally talks about how his mom had it in her breasts, his dad in his lungs… that it’s written on cigarette packs that “smoking kills”, and that it preys on little children. This relates to cancer in kids, NOT to incest.
He's a complete artist. Music, lyrics, visuals, dance, and everything comes together... He's a once in a generation talent.... I'm a French Quebecer, and I think he's the true heir to Jacques Brel....

C'est absolument vrais: Tout est parfait. Stromae est génial! Salutations d'un fan allemand.

You should react to his live show for his Racine Carrée album. It's on his UA-cam channel. His genius and creativity can also be really seen on stage
The American followers should watch his original live show.

Ce n'est pas simplement interprétation musicale magistrale, c'est une histoire qu'il raconte. Stromae peint une œuvre d'art, un spectacle vivant.
Hes the one doing all the voices it's even more beautifull specially when you understand french its so insanly profound the wording!

Yes, he plays with the sound and vibration : quand c'est and cancer... But he plays with dobble meaning of a word in every song
"Alors on dance" another great song by this artist.
When he released his song called Cancer, my little brother had just died of cancer, and it killed me.
Yeah the translation is tricky with this one. The Quand c'est is a play-on-words, or rather, a on the sound of the words. What he sais is actually : when is, when is... Which sounds like "cancer" a little bit in French. It's quite clever. But then again, Stromae is a genius, so... 😉

Hi, Dereck. Stromae finally remakes concerts, in 2022. During summer festivals, especially, in Belgium and France.😊
the perfect way to encapsulate the experience of a Stromae song is, like you said, "he has the sound that you want every sing time" ain't no way around it
Was waiting for this reaction thanks 😊
He is truly a great artist. Ive seen him in L.A.in 2022. But now he's disappeared again.
Stromae ❤️ more to see especially live perfs
En France on a les victoires au foot contre la Belgique.
Par contre en musique moderne ils mettent la fessée... Juste en citant Stromae et Angèle
Ah ! Je ne connais pas Angèle par contre...
Et vous oubliez Alice on the roof !
Hihihi... bjr de Belgique !
venir mettre du foot ici faut vraiment consulter !

I was very lucky to see him perform this song and his vocal technique is almost perfect to recording, maybe better.
