Welcome to the world of Stromae! a genius who mixes world music with very serious subjects and very joyful sounds. He composes and sings, his wife is a stylist. It is indeed his hair (around a donut) 😃. No, Belgium is not a colony of France. Belgium is a small country wedged between the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France and yes we speak 3 languages (French, Dutch and a little German)! For the video, he wanted an imaginary country so the uniforms, dances etc are inspired by several cultures. This was shot at Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels and the statues were added in post-production. They look like a Korean monument in Pyongyang. I hope you will continue to react on Stromae.

Stromae's music is powerful. Nobody really does it like he does, he has impacted the music industry as a whole and had a legendary run so far. He will die as one of the greatest artists to ever live, mark my words. I pray he lives for a very long time to supply us with these beautiful works of art. He's one of my biggest inspirations in music.

I think the cultural reference you were looking for with the title "fils de joie" is that it is a flip on "filles de joie" = "pleasure girl" = sex worker... but "filles" also means "daughter" and fils means "son"... so he is a son of a pleasure girl.

You have just listened to one of the biggest artists performing at the moment. Please look at some more of stromae and you will see how creative he really is. And in Belgium they speak French and Dutch (my language). The language of the Netherlands. Thanks for your great reaction !

Stromae! That guy is a musical genius! Looking forward to you reacting to more of him. 'Papaoutai' is a good one. And I'd also recommend 'Tous les mêmes' and 'Formidable'.

One of the great artists of our time. He is utterly brilliant with EVERYTHING he does. The way he is able to dive into such heavy topics and bring us along, engaging heart and mind in equal measure, while delivering world-class performance, musicianship, and writing.

    Hello *Ginger* & *Mike,*
France and Belgium united from 1792 to 1802, just after the French Revolution, Belgium then adhering to the humanist and progressive ideas of the "Lumières."
However, the Flemish part of Belgium didn't see it that way, and debate then appeared between the Walloon communities (pro-French revolution) and Flemish (pro-Netherlands royalty). The Walloons then formalized the French language while the Flemish continued to speak Flemish ("Vlaams" or "Belgian Dutch").
It is also essential to know Belgium and France are very closely linked by blood. In truth, the Franks who gave birth and its name to France were tribes of warriors from present-day Belgium, and the first kings of France and their descendants (Clovis, the first king of France, Charlemagne, who became emperor a little later, etc.) were Franks.
    French and Belgians are cousins.
    Peace, folks. ☮🤗

Not entirely correct but explaining Belgium is nearly impossible so i'll let it slide 😂. French and walloons may feel like cousins, but the Flemish and the Dutch are brothers and sisters. My 2 cents. 🤘❤️

In this song Stromae the maestro pays tribute to sex-workers and, portrays 3 Different roles: the son, the pimp and police officer. Stromae don't miss. He, much like Ren, is an artist in EVERY sense of the word!

Actually, the title is a word game. Fils de joie (son of joy) is a word game with fille de joie (girl of joy). Fille de joie was an expression centuries ago to named a prostitute. In French fille has 2 meaning : girl or daughter. Fils only one : son

I never realized how much music that’s out there until I bought an iPod. I filled that sucker up in an afternoon. When I hear the harpsichord I go right to the duel scene in “Highlander.” What a mishmash there - Latin club with German classical. Oh! I get it! Belgian “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves!” Neat. Good on him standing up for his momma. Respect! There is NOTHING respectable about those slimies in Davos. I’m sure the sex workers had far more class.

The best french singers are Belgians.
Stromae is strongly inspired (IMHO) by Jacques Brel's voice but his music is of course more modern.

    Bonjour,
The title of the song is a play on words.
To understand it, you have to know that girl of joy means prostitute.
    Because she gives you joy.
So, the son of joy (fils de joie) is the son of the girl of joy (fille de joie) (Here Fille means girl not daughter).
    Cordialement

unless it is indeed son of joy. joy is the prostitute. todays reality shame and destroy joy, and yet secretly idolize that biach. the institutions acknowledge joy's good intentions but chooses to promote life of misery, and yet when the joy dies, they come to pay tribute (even if its just superficial, for show and votes). and the words and the video incorporated all humanity (different vibes, or vibrations). these are the thoughts that make him wanna give up on humanity

Well smiling could be my last emotion after listening this incredibly powerful lyric about how rude and miserable people can be with women and sexual workers, so... I really dont get that from you, Ginger

    • @MikeandGinger
      @MikeandGinger  Місяць тому +1

Well Marina, some of us can’t help but laugh at the hypocrisy of others. Since the song and video were created with a certain kind of “flourish”, I believe that was the intended reaction. As a former sex worker (stripper) myself, it’s not like I am unfamiliar with how rude and dismissive people can be. Just take you, and your rude, judgmental insinuations, for example. So, why don’t you just let people enjoy things. - G
