The Aviator looks so much better than the Explorer and the Aviator rides unbelievably better than the Explorer. It really comes down to which one can you afford
Exactly
well it is a luxury car obviously
I think the Explorer has 4WD while the Lincoln only has AWD which is not for off-road use.
They both almost the same price
We test drove them both on the same day and found them identical in most every way. Neither have enough seat adjustment for a tall person as does our 2018 Explorer Platinum. The Aviator has a different front end and style changes inside but they are the same vehicle.
No comparison here for me the Lincoln is in its own class when it comes to the explorer. I mean the seats the headliners the sound system the suspension the materials and design of the Lincoln’s interior makes the explorer looks like a fiesta.
EXACTLY! LoL You hit the nail on the head!
That's true but the Explorer ST drives better, handles better and is faster for a lot less money. It also has a lot more cargo space for some reason I do not understand since they are the same size. The seats are also extremely comfortable
When you compare a $58k car to a $75k car,...makes no sense.
Both are amazing cars. But i like the looks of explorer.. it is literally the sexiest SUV on market...

Dude you missed a lot of key points when choosing the Aviator or the Explorer! 1) Lincoln ownership includes the pickup and delivery of your vehicle for all your service or maintenance needs, as well as a loaner Lincoln until service is completed. 2) The Aviator Grand Touring utilizes a battery-powered electric motor and pairs it with the standard Twin-Turbocharged engine to produce more than 450 horsepower and more than 600 lb.-ft. of torque. 3) you can program your phone to act as the key 4) Active Park Assist Plus 5) adaptive suspension with road preview 6) 28-speaker Revel® Ultima 3D Audio System and a lot more!!
You must work for Lincoln
@@ooooa9046 he's not wrong though. I open my app, schedule a time and place. My dealership comes and gets my MKZ and leaves a loaner and does the service and then brings it back. Fantastic service. Plus the revel audio system is next level shit.
@@ooooa9046 No, just a Lincoln owner for 15 years. Lincoln LS, Lincoln MKC, and next Lincoln Aviation or Nautilus.
Sandra you rock. Love it when people recognize build and service quality, it all in part of the actual cost!
A lot more, like the fact that it will auto switch to park if left in any other gear and the door opens.
Which one can I afford? The escape. 😂😂😂
Take a L ! The car or life in general
Take a L ! The car or life in general
Wooo Hooovvv The car...? I guess that went over your head
Even the Escape is close to $40k
Which one can you aFord? 😂😂
Really don't see a point to the video every one in the industry makes vehicles off a platform shared with another VW/toyota/gm/fca/Honda/and the list goes on. That being said I would buy the aviator for its interior not a big fan of the explorer interior.
Lincoln by far... Just so elegant and sophisticated.
Hi Jeremy, I agree it's a little nicer than the Explorer, but I don't know if its 70K worth of sophistication. I feel BMW X5 and Audi Q7 (and some others) offer more sophistication for their 70K+ tag. This is just my opinion ofcourse.
Hi BP. I respect that. However, I invite you name some of what they offer that's way more than this? Especially the Q7.
If you drive a Lincoln, you are perceived as a typical old white lady. The only exception to the stereotype is the Navigator. I live in Houston Tx and this is how it is in my city.
@@Lumpia_In_Texas I've lived in H-Town for 12 years. Energy Corridor for the longest. So being that I don't like being "typical" and go againt the grain. You can catch me at Lincoln of of Katy FWY near Kirkwood. lol
Plus you get to lose all that premium price the minute you drive it out the door. After three years, the resale of both cars will be within $1000. If you like to throw money away or don't care about it, but the Lincoln
The Aviator is just on another level, beautiful vehicle.
If by on another level you mean insane amount of lazy high tech features that will cost a fortune to fix in 10 years then yes it is lol
@@ecymbura31 Welcome to the future. I agree a lot of this stuff on cars today are insane, thats why a lot of people can't drive.

Man, do we have different opinions! I’ve owned a 2013 Explorer Limited and a 2016 Explorer Platinum. Next month I will be getting my Aviator, because it is, hands down, so much better than the Explorer. People, from someone who has driven an Explorer for the past 6 years, please take my advice and give the Aviator a test drive to determine for yourself. You won’t be sorry you did! More luxurious materials, smoother ride, MUCH better seats, great handling, better massaging seats, less road noise in the cabin, amazing sound system and a much more attractive body style! Explorer doesn’t hold a flame to the Aviator in my eyes.
I agree! Why would you not mention the ride, which to me is a gigantic decision when choosing a vehicle and the AVIATOR IS BY FAR MUCH BETTER RIDE THAN THE EXPLORER!!!!!
Thanks guys for your input. I loved my explorer sport because of the eco boost. I’m looking for something that is a fast getting on freeways as the explorer but MORE comfort and LESS cabin noise. I’m jving a hard time finding a dealer that has one in stock for me to test drive. Thanks again for your first hand experience and feedback
I'd like you to do this same comparison with VW and Audi.
Merrell Johnson agreed, I think people are being too judgemental like Ford and Lincoln are the first company to do this.
Or Acura and Honda, Toyota and Lexus, Nissan and Infinity etc.
And the Lambo truck lol
VW Atlas and Q7
I was myself was looking at the 2020 Aviator and since it was hard to find one now due to them just releasing, I went and looked at the 2020 Explorer ST. After test driving it and seeing all the similar features being included for a way lower price I ended up buying the Explorer ST. I was so wanting a more luxury feeling car but after the test drive I realized how much I loved the sportiness of the ST and it sold me.
People usually dont cross shop those. Good choice tho
I’m cross shopping them. When I was at the dealership two other gents were doing the same. If I could get the Lincoln’s seats in the ST I would probably own it now.
Shane Zatezalo
I bet they would bolt right in😁
Should have been cross shopping the base Aviator minus air ride to the ST
Just the video I have been looking for. After waiting on the Aviator for two years I want the best for my money. Love the look of the Aviator, cause I am a luxury girl, but the explorer have a lot to offer. Thanks for the FULL Detail comparison. Now I can go get me a new vehicle.
Thanks for this video! I have been watching the ST and the Aviator closely since their beginnings! Excellent reviews and I agree with you 100%
hollisterman06 thank you!
I enjoyed the video. It was great. It was informative. Thank you for explaining and sharing the details. Your video showed why Mercury existed. You said it when you said you would take the Explorer with the Lincoln seats. I like the fact both use digital displays.
I think we need to keep mainstream and luxury apart. Many manufacturers use shared platforms to provide mainstream products and luxury products. Pitching the Aviator against the ST Explorer on the dynamic of value is not a fair assessment. The Aviator should be compared to the likes of Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Cadillac XT6 etc. The craftsmanship of the Aviator and attention to details is far more compelling than the Explorer but then again has to be since it’s competing with other luxury makes. Luxury vehicles offer better leathers, more soft touch areas on the interior vs hard plastics, more comfortable seats etc. if you look at the Aviator against its luxury competitors it offers an amazing balance of value and luxury. Standard 400 hp and 10-speed transmission. Audi,Volvo or Cadillac doesn’t do anything like that. If your trying to see how Explorer ST measures up then you have to consider other mainstream offerings such as the Durango SRT.
They go down the same assembly line, so quality is the same
@@donskiba3429 True, but Ford still uses WAY TOO MUCH cheap plastic. Many people use the term quality to describe solidity and materials, not many really care exactly how its built as long as panel gaps are small, and things dont rattle
EXACTLY!
We want to see exactly how much more we’re getting with the Lincoln
Great review. Thank you for doing it the way you did!
Denny Bennett thank you👍🏻👍🏻
Ben... did you that Aviator has little trick up it's sleeve? 💁 On the exhaust tip, there are HOLES underneath for exhaust to escape....in order to avoid exhaust damage. 🙅
Keep in mind the base engine on the Lincoln is the same as the top of the line engine on the explorer. Most explorers will not have the 3.0TT. The Lincoln also now is rated to make 415 ft lbs of torque as well. The optional hybrid on the lincoln is now rated at 494 HP and 630ft lbs of torque.
Daniel Blaney check out fast lane cars new aviator video fast forward to 8:30 in the video our engineers explain just a few of the differences
@Andrew Anderson Thats for the platinum. The ST gets 400hp and 415ft lbs.
FYI. Aviator also have 415 lb of torque. It’s stated at its website at Lincoln so it’s the same engine as the ST in every way
Wait. I didn't understand or maybe I missed it. The Explorer has a combined AWD\4WD system. (I know because I have a 2015 model) Is the Lincoln an AWD-only with no manual 4WD activation controls? or it does via those "driving modes"?
How do you get in the Lincoln if the battery dies?
The Aviator is a really good SUV. For the price you’re getting, a new Range Rover Sport with less features costs almost $70k.
Does the Aviator just have rear ventilation on the back of the console or does it also have vents in the ceiling too.
I can't believe your talking about the ventilation, read up first on Ford door actuators. They fail more often then you will change your oil, hope you like hot air when you want cold.
The aviator by far. The seats are amazing as well as the overall design. Wish I could afford one😊
Everybody needs to stop bashing this young man for making a UA-cam video, clearly he's not buying any of these vehicles. Good review Ben.
Ferre O thank you 👍🏻😂
I wish this review had a test drive. In order to justify the additional 17k for the Aviator, Lincolns usually have more sound insulation, which makes a huge difference in the quality of the vehicles. Also, the Aviator must come with the Revel Sound System which is incredible. I don’t think it’s available on the Explorer. It would be nice to know if this system was standard on the Aviator. When it’s all said and done, you still have to go to the dealership and see the vehicles for yourself.
EXACTLY! The guys compared 20 things that are similar between the vehicle BUT fails to compare the other 100 things thats totally dissimilar!!
We test drove an Explorer Platinum and it was a lot closer to the Lincoln. The ST is too far down the model line for an honest comparison. We still went the the Lincoln Grand Touring which replaces our last three Caddies.
The Aviator isn’t $17K more. Aviator standard without air ride is only $3500 more than the ST and it comes with a better warranty. Total no brainer
I don’t understand your beef between the platform sharing
E T no beef, just showing people they are the same, go look at the comments on my aviator review
I mentioned this in the most recent comment as I'm new to this channel. Didn't understand the purpose of pointing this out. It's never mentioned with the cars I named in my comment.
E T it’s the same beef that y’all have with the XT6 sharing the XT5/Acadia platform.🤷🏽♂️
mybro727 I have no beef with that. How else is a manufacturer going to make products efficiently and cost effectively? The Aviator is a far superior vehicle than the XT6 though. This isn’t 20 years ago, these platform twins aren’t rebadge jobs- they are unique vehicles.
E T cuz Americans car reviewers don’t like Americans sharing platforms but Europeans are welcome to do so. No one bash Audi with Volkswagen or heck even Toyota’s and Lexus get a pass. American auto makers just cannot satisfy us here in America. 🤦♂️
It would be the Lincoln for me hands down
When you are jumping back and forth between the two on the interior shots, you should have the Lincoln and RS emblems on the screen to identify between the two... just for people who aren’t familiar with the two brands to better differentiate between the two.
Of course I will go for Lincoln Aviator, can you make a video on the 2020 Lincoln Continental
Nicholls Daniels I’ll try to get a hold of one
Nice quick comparo!! Lincoln get my nod...If I ever want an SUV!
Are you going a comparison between the Xt6 and Acadia ?
Jordan Catcher as soon as I find a GM dealer that will work with me
@@BenHardyCars thanks 👍 , looking forward to seeing the comparison between both.
Ben Hardy yes please do! Because Ford people literally troll the Cadillac XT6 claiming it’s just a rebadged Acadia yet I believe they’ve done a better job differentiating those two vehicles than Ford has done with these two here. This video is proof of that. If you are able to do the same type of comparison for the Cadillac XT6/GMC Acadia, it will be greatly appreciated. I will be tuned in!
Thank you for answering most of my suspicions. But, it wasn't a totally fair comparison still even though you tried hard. You should have compared aviator vs explorer Platinum
Which trim are you comparing the st to ,if it's not the black label, which is the extra 23000 price, then what are you doing? The reserve is around 65000,the standard is around 57000,so what trim are you using for comparison it looks like the standard model, which is pretty close to price of the st.
Allan Seale Lol. No. The standard Aviator base model looks nowhere near as good as the Reserve trim that’s featured in the video and is completely stripped down.
Saw both vehicles and ended up picking the Aviator. There’s just nothing like it! Very luxurious and classy!!
Too bad you can't rotate that display pad in the Explorer.
I really like the new Ford explorer look especially if it's got that 400 horsepower Ecoboost
Same under the hood? did you not look?
I have an explorer sport it is nice sunroof is the best good job on your pick
Great video
You forgot there is also a 450 hp Aviator with 600 pound feet of torque and the Explorer does not have that here in the US. Price goes up but it is a Lincoln.
goldroddd hopefully I can review one of those soon
EXACTLY!
goldroddd they actually upped the power, 494 HP and 630 pound feet of torque 🔥
Good informative video 😉

I wish they will launch 2021 ford explorer RS with 5.0 V8 with 10 speed auto OR 6 speed Mannual transmission
I would like for you to do a comparison video with the 2021 Yukon Denali and 2021 Cadillac Escalade
Khafre Bevins I’ll see what I can figure out when they hit dealer lots
Did he mention the warranty? Lincoln warranty is always better than the ford counterpart. That alone is probably worth a couple $thou
Lincoln got it all just beautiful powerful machine.
I was all set to buy the new ST but hate the iPad looking touch screen and the 1/2 screen use for cameras - think I will hold on to my older Explorer for a while longer
But they are still identical right? Are they from the same auto maker?!
We make the li-ion batteries at my plant out of Detroit👍🙂
SMH, the Explorer in your review is 59K that Aviator is 80+K. Which is the better one now? You were correct in the vehicle you chose. Thanks for the video.
I currently own 4 Lincolns, and had 2 Lincolns in the last few years that were replaced with newer Lincolns. My family will never own anything but Lincolns again.
Wish I made your type of money lol. I love the Aviator. Ford vehicles break down way too much and I would be worried about that happening with Lincoln.
All my vehicles have extended warranty so I dont pay for anything until I am over 120,000 miles. As of now, I have never had a single major repair on any of them. A couple of factory recalls and the Navigator had the power running board motors replaced, but that is because I live in Michigan and snow/salt are not friendly with moving parts being that close to the road grime. My father worked for GM for 40 years, so I grew up with GM products. Lincoln is my go to now though.
@@kessenyiah yes, the warranty is truly where it is at. I live in Cali so all the hoops these laws have auto makers jump through with meeting their requirements is ridiculous. I myself have had problems with 2 fords in my life but to be fair they were used cars I got in my younger days. The experience combined with all the negative reviews online just really affect my trust in them.
the explorer doesn't offer the 500HP plug in hybrid and 28 speaker sound system though :-/
Good comparison as I am searching for a new vehicle and was comparing these two myself.
lpgfamily5 thank you
tbh you have to have that specific mood to drive a lincoln lol.the explorer is a good choice imo,but the Lincoln is for Friday nights👌
Did you mention the laminated glass and increased sound insulation? Audi shares with Volkswagen, Toyota with Lexus, Infiniti with Nissan. What's the beef?
Max Hayden no beef, they are both great vehicles
Lincoln has evolved as a company to become a phenomenal American competitor. Amazing Aviator and Incredible Navigators... Big WOW!
Dear how can able to compare ...
Ben watch the fast lane cars review on aviator vs Explorer u can honestly fast forward until 8:30 in the video and hear from our product engineer the differences
The Lincoln Aviator Grand Tour starts at 68k with 495hp and 630 foot pounds of torque. He failed to mention that 😉
I don’t think that was the aviator grand tour...
This is overly critical sorry.,, Lincoln did an incredible job and there are LOADS of changes between the two. Lincoln received the base chassis of Fords new RWD architecture and went their own way.... Real badge engineering is the GM trio of SUV’s the Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade.
The Lincoln is classed up over the Explorer but pretty close across the board. Thanks.
That's a half ass comparison. The lincoln has a different suspension setup that gives it a superior ride and handling, a air system that raises and lowers the vehicle, a system that constantly sensing the pavement to adjust the suspension to suit the ride quality, a more plush steering feel and a whole lot more that the explorer dosen't have. Look 'your entitled to your opinion but cut the crap; we just need to open the hood when we need to and all manufacturers uses the same engines and transmission's in different models 'therefore what is your stupid comparison is about: next time know the vehicle entire build before you open your mouth to talk about a vehicle and compare vehicles.
Lincoln Aviator all the way I got one love it
I didn't realize the the Explorer had massaging seats. Do any of its competitors? GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse, Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Dodge Durango, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru Ascent, VW Atlas, Mazda CX-9...???
Jamil Jones Yes, the Explorer Platinum has massaging seats. I’ve been enjoying them for the past 3 years, but I’m moving up to the Aviator. To my knowledge, of the ones you listed, the Explorer is the only one to have them. Then again, it’s been 3 years since I did my research before I bought my Platinum. Things may have changed since then.
@@melleyj7191 yea... I'm pretty sure that the Explorer is still the only one to have that feature (in this class). Cuz I watch car reviews all the time, and I'm pretty sure that would have stood out to me if reviewers had mentioned it on the other vehicles. For instance, Telluride and Palisade have heated and cooled SECOND row seats. Stands out, cuz it's unique for the segment. But, yea, that's crazy that the Explorer has massaging seats (even as far back as 3 years ago when you got yours). Enjoy your Aviator (I'm jealous). Lol... Waiting for my Genesis GV80 to launch though. 😁
why didn't you use the Ford Explorer Platinum instead of the ST?
I'm a Ford Explorer Limited owner and I say the following with confidence.
This question "Are They the Same SUV", can be answered with a resounding "Yes, They Are the Same SUV".
Why you might ask, because they both have three major recalls before they ever produce over 16k vehicles. It took 16k vehicles to be produced before Ford realized these major issues. What were these supposed major recalls you might ask, well lets see, rolling, parked car doesn't stay parked, and oh yeah unfinished metal cutting people after getting in and out of the seats.
If Henry Ford was alive to see what his sons has done to this company, I think he'd cry.
If you think I'm biased and limiting my remarks to fords Explorer/Aviator line, please review the 2020 F150 and it's recalls. If you really want a good laugh check out the tail gate that comes open while driving. When is this crap they out put going to stop being recalled for serious safety issues. I'm sick of it. Do a google search, I don't know if they have had anything that hasn't had recalls.
They've even gone almost 10 years and still can't fix door actuators, it's got two plastic disk attaching to a motor to rotate your heat and cold in the explorer. They've revised it twice in 10 years still fails often. Or have carbon monoxide leaks into the cab. You don't know how much you enjoy driving an explorer until you have to actually put in a carbon monoxide detector in your car while you drive so you don't pass out with your kids in it.
Sorry for the long rant just trying to save people from making the same mistake I did.
You didn't notice the Lincoln exhaust pipes exit out of the BOTTOM of the chrome pipes.... :-0
Do they go down the same assembly line?
rgrndu partly
rgrndu yes they do... I make them
Why in a 2020 car would you use halogens just why
Comparing both these crossovers are like:
Ford Explorer 🆚 Mercury Mountaineer
R.I.P. Mercury😢
It isn't a truck
Why didn't you compare the Lincoln aviator to the Ford Explorer Platinum
Good video.
Something to take into consideration, the ST maxes out in towing at 5600 lbs, the aviator maxes out at 6700 lbs. Also the st(and the platinum model of the explorer) has fake exhaust tips, whereas it looks like the lincoln didn't cheap out there. You can get a "basic" aviator for the same price as the ST, be able to tow more, and the interior even in the basic aviators looks nicer. Its interesting to note that while the aviator has 15 less torque than the st, the "platinum" edition of the explorer has 35 less horsepower than either, and 20 less torque than the aviator.
My neighbour just took delivery of the 2020 Lincoln Aviator hybrid . There is no comparison between the explorer and aviator. You never mentioned the difference in handling and suspension. A 19 year old male could of given the review better. Lincoln is quieter and better all around. LOL
Interesting the Lincoln went very old school on the push button shifting
This guy is one of the ONLY reviewers I've heard say this. Lincoln went to extremes to successfully separate itself from the Ford and has done so in spades. The suspension is different as is all the trim.
I owned older models of these vehicles and the Aviator was always an elegant Explorer! They make great vehicles!!
Lincoln also has a Hybrid version that is 450hp 650 pounds of torque
494 HP and 630 lb-ft of torque....
jalopnik.com/actually-the-2020-lincoln-aviator-makes-almost-500-hp-f-1837218183
Shouldn’t the Explorer Platinum be compared to the Lincoln and not the sport model Ford
G Howard would have been a better comparison feature and interior quality wise
Forget both & give me the 2020 New Jaguar F-Pace Sport; it's base price is $62,000. It's a compromise between the ST & Aviator. But if forced to choose between the two choices given, I'd definitely go with the Lincoln. The ST's exterior's is acceptable but for &58,000 the interior is woefully lacking!
Nice review but can you pull the camera back a bit.
These things are only $3K apart when comparably equipped. Base Aviator without air ride is pretty much a direct competitor to the ST and it offers a better warranty, interior, and much better looking exterior
Is the Lincoln Aviator 4WD?
juan Montenegro yes
I still feel like the fifth gen explorers exterior looked better. But to be fair, it looks better than most mainstream family suvs made in the past few decades imo, so I understand that it was going to be hard to beat it.
Considering Ford makes Lincoln, its no secret there are similar features but that Lincoln is designed for comfort and luxury. things usually acquired with age... The RS is for younger folks and those wanting an edgy looking vehicle.
Its also no secret that there are people all day scraping up and emptying their savings to buy a Ford... however on average, Lincoln owners are able to pay for the extra embellishments and comfort such as the lowering for entry feature you forgot to mention.
I always wanted the aviator but my dad got the explorer ST
Aviator is not high from ground like tahoe , how about naviator?
here is the real question is the lincoln 23,000 dollars better than the explorer
I mean it all depends on the options you choose, its unlikely you will want every option. I build and price it,and withers choices I made it was around 65 and this was the reserve. So you can outfit your Aviator pretty good and not pay 70 something.
Yes! Simply put...

Brandon delapi gotta find a VW and Audi dealer
no heads up display on either?
Aviator has it in one of the option packages.
I have to agree with other comments I have owned many vehicles the difference in build components is the big difference between these cars. Also, the lincoln looks much better inside and out Just traded my fusion platinum for an MKX Reserve the lincoln is so much nicer. The Fusion leather color was painted on from the factory the same way aftermarket leather dye is. The other thing I will say is I drove the MKX, Infinity, Lexus, Cadillac, Toyota, and a few Kia & Hyundai models and the Lincoln was very nice excellent value compared to others in its class
Plus if your gonna buy one get the Aviator GT PHEV 600+ foot pounds of torque
Dude, that Lincoln is soooo much nicer, especially in the exterior. And the Lincoln is out of my price range whereas the Explorer is but I’m not going to sit here and pretend it’s not far more elegant.
Technically they are the same, if you look at the platform they're built on. The same goes with the Edge and MKX/Nautilus and the Flex and MKT.
Nice vehicle good video
toufik lebcir algeria thank you
Lincoln is doing a much better job of differentiating Lincoln from ford. Much better than a lot of competitors.
Never thought I would have said this.....ever......but I prefer the Aviator in it's current state....now if Ford would have made all the dark plastic on the outside in a gloss black finish and a better grille, with a little bit more premium/sport materials for that trim level...then I would have chosen the Explorer..and given that it's the ST..I wish the power level was a bit higher than the Aviator...
JG Scatpack392 makes sense
JG Scatpack392 hybrid aviator makes 494hp and 630 lb ft of torque. Yes they underestimated power look it up
@@yticewolf158 I'm not talking about the Aviator's power...I'm saying the the ST should have been more powerful.
Oh give me a break this comparision is a joke and so amature. Im sure there are MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE to be compared between the 2 vehicles. You only compared everything that is comparable. Then there is a list of features and options on the Lincoln which you cannot even compare with the Explorer because the Explorer doesnt even have it. The Lincoln has AIR assist where the vehicle raises and lowers. The explorer doesnt. The list goes on. The Lincoln even has a 450hp engine options which you fail to mention! The Lincoln Aviator is by far a superior vehicle to the Explorer. My Gosh. Even the RIM optiions are goooorgeous! PLUS you dont even mention the different trims options that are available on the Aviator.
