While I agree with most of the people commenting about the naked wire, but i loved the video. This was great video other than the wire. I have a similar wall but in my case, i would like the TV on top. I would have also loved if you would have talked about the heating, as far as how much opening it needs and/or on top as most people would want to hang TVs on top. Thank you though for the video
Sorry to be negative here, but it's one thing to hang the fireplace surface mount. But, if you're going to go to the trouble of cutting studs etc, my gosh hard wire the friggin thing. This install is very sloppy.
EXACTLY! When I saw they were just going to plug it in and leave the cord showing I was like "why bother with the recessed mounting? It looks like crap! I'm getting ready to install one of these in our basement and you can bet your behind that I'm hard wiring that SOB!
This is Trevor. He installs fireplaces for blind people. if you know anyone whos looking to get his installed, don't hesitate to contact him. hes top notch
Flush mount fireplaces typically have enough trim to hide the additional framing needed when cutting through studs. You should have fully framed this out. Also, the idea you need an electrician to tap a 120v outlet is hilarious.
Wow. Should have located it somewhere else. Took that diagonal 2x4 off the back of the stairway. NOTE: that's what held the stairway drywall in position. Good luck with the cracking that will happen now. The vertical ones also held drywall along the stairway up, and the stairway beneath. Somebody's gonna have a nice repair project to re-do every year as the cracks continue re-appearing!!! Gotta love it! This choice is in the category of DDIY - - Don't Do It Yourself.
Hey, the install showed how easy it can be but for self-described pros that non-finishing touch on the electrical cord is half-ass. You even could have run the cord inside the wall and just brought it through the wall at the outlet right there! As a marketing professional, I am respectively telling you're not helping yourselves with this.
Embers Fireplaces & Outdoor Living could have at the VERY least done what the poster stated. Ran the cord BEHIND the Sheetrock and then popped it out AT the outlet and THEN plugged it in. I am not some DIY, or electrical installer and would have done this for esthetic reasons. It looks sloppy. This should have be an easy decision FREE of charge.
so my question is do these fireplaces need fire protection behind them or any ventilation? Or can I install this on a joining wall with another room? Asuuming of course the wall is supported structurally?
can you let me know please the actual napoleon model fireplace this is looks great thanks. just bought a forte one today on amazon but might like this better
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I hope u can answer my question. If u in fact find that the wall is weigh bearing. Do you have to build a heading or u mean u can’t put it in the space.
Nice clear video. I am going to install a recessed electric fireplace but wondering what tool(s) did you use to cut out the studs without going all the way through the rear drywall? That part of your video was on high speed. I will hardwire mine to a switch on the wall. Thats easy to do.
@@embersliving You know....how when you leave the electric fireplace on for hours and hours the heat builds up behind and below the units and caused the wood in the wall to catch fire. Once you get the fire and the house goes up in flames...everyone dies. What is even worse, is the insurance company refuses to pay because it was a faulty install ...based on some diy moron video.
The comments on this video are a joke. The guy FULLY SAID he is just going to plug it in, but if you WANT it hard wired then go ahead and hire an electrician. Clearly the home he is installing this in, doesnt care if the damn cord is showing. Geez ahahahahaha
@@embersliving Hey I've been researching a gas grill and have found all your videos very helpful. Decided to check out some of your fireplace stuff too and came across this one. Lots of hate, people sure do suck! Liked, subscribed, and will be placing an order for a Blaze LTE shortly. Thanks again!

You fast forward thru the important parts. The cord looks horrendous and I'm not so sure that those stairs didnt in part rely on those studs you removed. A proper install would be to properly foam that opening with a header and supports and to properly hardwire that fireplace to the existing circuit.
The homeowner's should have spend the money and had an electrician wire the power cord correctly. Anywhooo thank you for the electric fireplace install video.
its just one way of doing it, to show customers how easy it can be. Hardwiring is a great option as well! However this customer didn't want to pay an electrician and this was the option he chose.
@@embersliving Come on you guys should be able to do the whole install without asking the customer to go to the trouble of hiring out yet another person. Especially for something so simple! If I were you I wouldn't even feel comfortable letting a customer install it the way you guys demonstrated...it completely ruins the finished product! When people go to their house and look at that and see how sloppy it is they aren't going to be impressed. Nor will they think dropping $1K+ on an electric fireplace seem like a good idea when they think it'll just end up looking like that. I'm not trying to tell you how to run your business....well actually I guess I am...DO THE INSTALL RIGHT DANG IT!!!!
Sloppy job. If it's a load bearing wall, the cutout studs (you've cut TWO) needs to be supported by a horizontal stud. Place the damn cable inside the wall.
I’ve wanted to do this project for the longest time. I called a contractor and he told me 4000 for the job lol I don’t think he understood what I meant by fireplace. I said wall mounted, and I think he thought I meant a real fireplace 😂😂 unless that’s how much it costs to install?
If your business is based on installing fireplaces, please at least learn how to hardwire these in first. Its not hard and will not look or sound like an amateur as you did
Man dude stop! That installation is ugly as hell. You’re legit standing in front of the plug in and the wires look like a snake under the unit!!! Who in their right mind would settle for this?!.
Trevor thanks so much for this video, i used this to get going when i building out my recessed fireplace - here is my video ua-cam.com/video/4ZDg4wYAaCw/v-deo.html . Have you ever done a custom ducting over a non recessed fireplace though?
But the cord - NOOOO!!! Lol hide that freaking cord omg!!!
jessica lamarre he is that’s why he’s standing there lol 😂
🤣🤣
Lmao thats the first thing I thought also
Exactly, they could’ve put the outlet on the other side of the wall.
You couldn't tighten the cord so it's not slacking across the entire fireplace? There's enough room behind the glass to hide the cord completely.
i like how he's standing in front of where the cable is going down to the outlet so he can hide it and not show how ugly it is.
exactly
That's exactly what a said lol
I was thinking the same.
You can still see the shoddy untidy cabling underneath the fireplace though lol

I think the owner just didn't want to pay the extra for the electrician or Trevor wasn't certified.
Would have been an incredibly easy diy hardwire with an outlet so close.

The work is excellent, just a detail, I think you could work a little to make an internal connection so that that electrical cord is not visible

That’s against electrical code, you cannot run cords inside a wall...
@@raythomas2925 I meant with conduit, of course. Sheesh.
Thank you..! I'm about to install one and your video helped me a lot and I will hard wire the switch myself
You don't need to hire an electrician to wire that. Just cut the plug and feed it through the back of that receptacle and wire up.
Aint no way he cut a hole in the wall then ran the cord like that 😩
so sorry
I said the same thing 😂

electric units do not need them

So is it just a monitor or does it produce heat?
Uhmmmm... remove the stairs support....
2x4 wall...? was it a 110v unit also.?
The cord ruins it. Why go through the trouble and spend the money if you’re not gonna do that?

you dont need to hardwire, just install an in-wall kit to hide those wires.
good idea!
Isn’t that wall load bearing since it’s next to the staircase and stringer?
no it wasn't
This video taught me an important leason, hire a professional to do the install. The cord there is awful. Sorry, I hope you hid it better later.
We do always suggest hiring a professional! Thanks for watching.
Isn’t it a fire hazard to install an electric fireplace inside a wall like that since the heat will be vented inside the wall? Just curious
I think that you are right
no all the heat comes out the front
Installing ours now... how do you attach the glass on those clips on the top?
there are little hooks that they attach to
why wouldnt you run the wire behind the wall? you already have a huge hole in it....and for that speaker to the right...
customer didnt want to spend the money
Is this just a display screen or for heating?
it has both
how much will these electric fireplaces warm a room? thinking of one for the basement in tri state area, so cold in winter time.
about 400 sq ft
What if it’s plaster?
