Prevost bus with some safety concerns. Beautiful bus conversion getting a major inspection

- The wheels on this bus need some attention. Bad wheel studs, short wheel studs, bad wheel bearings, bad shocks, oiled brake shoes from leaking wheel seals, brakes out of adjustment, bad turbo.

"Hear that sound?"....yup..."That's money falling out of your pocket" 🤣🤣🤣
Scott you so eloquently explain the intersection of romance and reality of these older busses.
I would rather have you do a bus inspection than most repair shops because you're a no nonsense kind of guy. Kudos Scott.
Scott, you certainly have a loyal young technician working for you. Clearly he's learning every single day under your leadership. Please arrange a shop uniform program for him so he doesn't destroy his personal clothing while on the job. He must go through alot of jeans and other items , at his cost, just performing his job responsibilities.
He needs coveralls and a workboot allowance.
@MrLBPug Family values on display.
Liked seeing the inside of one of these buses. Really shows how much space they have inside.
My parents had two '96 XL Mirages' passenger buses. Loved driving them, hated working on them! But I did probably 90% of the repairs on them and so I quickly learned how delicate these things really are in some respects and robust in others.
Always glad to see you guys usually get Timken Bearings a great US company and US made bearings
Very nice conversion, totally deserving of the maintenance dollars. They will love the way it feels on the road with all those problems fixed.
Very nice looking coach inside and out Scott..
Love the bus look
Nothing is ever as it seems, good job sorting out serious safety concerns
That Milwaukee 1” seems to be holding up well. Great work and video as always m. Thank You
She's a beauty...seem's to climb bus mountain pretty damn well too, pulling a trailer. Lol. what's that sound, haha.
✌️❤️😂
He
Know what I love about your channel, Scott?
Pretty much everything. Be safe and take care.
Scott, once again finding issues before they fail! Great video!
Awesome. I can only imagine the trouble mine is going to pop up with when I can eventually bring it down to you. lol
You are hands down a top notch and straight up mechanic. Excellent service.
Hey we got to see Scott in the mirror. Great video.
Bet owner is glad bus getting needed attention. Front end must be good.
This bus looks very nice from the outside and inside. Every time I see red rtv silicone poking out it screams like hack mechanic been tinkering with it.
Good looking bus
Thank you!
You can count on your money being well spent with the BGM. If I had a bus Scott and his crew would be the 1's go to.😎
I’m so glad my Monaco dynasty has been maintained.
There is good side to this bus.they brought it to the best shop..
Hello BGM from Colorado springs ♨️
in theory with steel threads, "one times the diameter" is sufficient thread depth for full strength. that said, that's a big no-no on lugnuts, the main reson is if they start to back off, you hopefully have time to notice it before they shear off and have a wheel that exits stage left. especially with aluminum rims that love to change torque values and spit wheels off.
Big Buss is Big Money!
*_Thank you Sir_* #BeSafe
Excellent work as always.
Well those shocks are a wee bit past their best by date. Last ones I replaced that bad had 140k on 'em and were 35 years old.
I have read and several manufacturers owner's manual and it says to use a light oil on the lug studs
Find where alcoa recommends Anti seize on the threads
Waxes and heavy grease are the no no’s. Undercoating wax overspray, for example. I have never read a factory repair manual that specified the stripping of all oil from a wheel stud. The merest of coats, no drips
Light oil will be dry within a couple of weeks with the heat from brakes and wet roads. Even grease will disappear. Anti-seize is the only thing that lasts but if the manufacturer says no I wouldnt use it either.
To Scott and Johnathan 👍👍
Seems like every other bus coming into BGM has kingpin problems and bushing problems. If half of the buses coming into BGM have these problems, the odds are higher that most buses on the road have front end and safety problems.
Between BGM and Just Rolled In, I can see a revival of mandatory safety testing for all vehicles coming soon.
Somebody forgot the three threads in safety 😮
I use to have a turbo on a car I had and it wobbled like that until one day when it fell out
Those wheel studs! Dangerous
keep the clips coming
I gather that was an older bus with the manual slacks? You guys really must enjoy the pool after days and days of front end work, eh?
I can see you getting to the point where you say "Hell no, not a Prevo!!!" They seem to be all corrosion and seizures.
Good job
Must have gotten a new camera...the closeups are great!
Bad turbo? I wish I had that problem with my 8V71N... 😢
Yes you would like one
Nice older Prevost. Side aisle; explains the large bath. Who did the conversion? Custom Coach, Marathon?
A super nice comment💕We did the conversion ourselves.
@@TheMariaPeterson Well done! That's the best way. Are you in FMCA?
What brand of bearing did you take out glad to see you use Timken since I retired from timken
3:17 Just a suggestion...you need to get the series 60 software. You will bitch at Detroit for the cost.....yup you need it
When 2cycle work is slow
So in instances like this where the owners are there, do they just sleep and eat inside the bus, inside the garage, overnight?
Yes
Thanks for another good video
How's Leroy doing? Haven't seen him around the shop lately?
It’s ludicrous that there are shops doing shoddy work putting coach owners lives at risk.
Hi Scott, out of interest how many miles has this bus travelled? Cheers Drew
600k
@@BusGreaseMonkey wow, so it’s not surprising it needs new king pins, etc. You guys do amazing work on these old high mileage busses!! Cheers Drew
As a retired truck driver my question is how was he stopping this bus?
That’s why we are here.
If a seller is unwilling to have Scott do the inspection then stay away from it
Looks to be about 10-12 years of neglected service...
We are getting it all gone through
@@BusGreaseMonkey As always ;) Keep on keeping on.
What is up with those bearings??? Wrong grade oil, or have never been serviced since the bus was built?
You wanna stay either way back, or way in front of old busses converted to RV's. 10th's of 1,000's of Dollars deferred maintenance
Has this EVER has a service? It is shocking. A danger on the road!
Wow just a little bit more thy would not have had any breaks
The brakes were an issue. 25-40% reduced would be a good guess range. Just a guess but a very significant reduction in braking ability. Even 10% could have serious consequences
wow, they should have jettisoned the trailer at the bottom entrance. that could have been much more fun if it didnlt make it though. lool
OMG aluminum wheels on the inside? Oh my....rookie RVers.....jesus.....
Those were on it from when it was in revenue service. They did not add those.
@@BusGreaseMonkey Wow revenue service....Well you caught it good to go now!
I like hobo freight cept for 1 thing ,if you don't study the fine print ,they will get you ,this applys to coupons ,sales and tools in general
Calling them hobo freight is rude.
How did those wheel bearings nit fail
Can you say money and more money on this bus just for safety for everyone on the road
Lots of this bill will be for safety
When is he getting propane injection ?
:o ?
What is it about the Detroit engines you like so much?
Simplicity and the sound of every cylinder firing every revolution ;)
@@BusGreaseMonkey I preffer a " lower idle sound " ( big 4 stroke at low RPM ) but respect the unique-ness of the detroit two strokes.
The lower the RPM the better in my books, as long as oil pressure is reached this should be fine... right ? :o ?
@@LORFCASTERewwww the idle sound…. No the sound all wound up on the governor! That’s the sound I’m talking about!!!
That's why she's here all messed up
Scott, how would you rate Timken vs SKF bearing
Please forgive my ignorance, but aren't the buses of all forms and sizes going through annual or periodical inspection in the U.S in order to either continue circulating till the next inspection or being rejected and reschedule with advisories?
Commercial buses yes, but once it changes to an RV in most states it’s either exempt or a very minimal process.
@@BusGreaseMonkey Thank you very much for your prompt response. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
How much to work on my bus
What kind of bus? We charge by the hour and old buses take lots of extra unplanned hours
It's a 94 prevost with a Alison auto and a 8v92tta looking at a new turbo and new blower maybe a complete rebuild of the engine it's just tired
@allenscott19832008: If you gotta ask a general ' pie-in-the-sky ' question like this - you obviously can't afford a quality repair. I suggest your local bus repair shop can help you
5-7k a week is a good labor estimate. Parts are usually about the same amount per week it seems. It’s rare for a bus to get in and out in just a day or two. Waiting on parts is always an unknown variable.
A NEW YAUKUH... PLease stay there, we have enough of you in Florida now....
old prevost still look relatively up to date in terms of style vs old transit bus conversions
The description of the socket was lost in the translation from Chinese to English.
Inboard drums?? OMG, how old is this bus??
