For us it was also a way to show her how dance is a big part of the culture. By the time she was seven, she was dancing semi-professionally and competing. But there came a day when she came up and said she was tired of 8-10 hours of practice at the studio, so that's when she stopped for a break. Whenever she wants to dance, she dances; whenever she doesn't, she doesn't. Anything different that I as a parent would want for her isn't relevant. Dance competitions are gruling and are very cut-throat. The one thing I detest being around is any parent with the "soccer-mom" mentality. They are not doing it for their child, their doing it for themselves. My daughter would NEVER had to deal with an "Abby" teacher becase the one thing Abby forgets... If it weren't for the parents paying for the classes she wouldn't have a dance studio. She is offering a service and she is there for the children and answers to the parents.
