    Definitely sounded cleaner with the stock muffler

    That's the big question....did it help? There is another video showing a muffler mod which decreased cutting time in a descent sized log up over 3 seconds. That's a big improvement. Its like any 2 stroke. If you decrease the back pressure, you will gain more power for the most part but you have to adjust fuel also. I can tell that it is labouring a little but you would not know foresure until it is warmed up. That's why you should never do adjustments to a 2 stroke until it is warmed up properly.

    so are you going for the fast and furious sound, or actual performance? sound doesnt mean chit if performance isn't there. you should also look at getting the right tool for the right job. yes, you made it work, but the next time, at what cost, a laced open finger, knuckle, hand? do you even have an actual use for that much saw? maybe a smaller saw to start with, and definitely some mechanical training.

    I got the same saw, don't put them short screws in, you got to torque em some in that soft metal and you want them to last forever.

    In the video, is it.starving for more fuel at the end?

    The biggest problem with these saws is the carburetor. Find an old stihl oem 66 carb and rebuild it, very easy, then you can tune it to run. Otherwise you give up on either the top end or idling. Many of them have junked themselves because the circlips that keep the wrist pin in the piston pop out and get sucked up into the cylinder. You should replace them too.

    • @thepauldixonOC
      @thepauldixonOC  4 роки тому +2

      So you recommend to replace the stock carb with a genuine Stihl carb? Also, the circlips are junk? Again, replace with Stihl parts? Thanks!

      Have you ran them much @lorriclogging ? I want a big saw for my business, but don't really have the capital for name brand yet. If this can be made reliable, I'm going to get one. Let me know what you think.

    • @HubertofLiege
      @HubertofLiege 3 роки тому

      @@leestiltner9292 reliable? Maybe. My first one ran about 25 loads, 100 mbf or so, then the clip that holds the wrist pin below the piston popped out and junked the cylinder. I bought a second one because I had all the mods needed to make them acceptable. They are stihl oem compatible so replace the carb at a minimum. The steel is soft, the plastic is hard. The handlebars don’t last, the chain tensioner strips, the bucking dogs are poorly designed, I imagine the clutch will fail too. Having said all that, why did I buy two? I paid less than $300 for each delivered and had the old saw parts. Would I buy another? I don’t know. It’s not my everyday reliable saw.

    Who cares for loud? How's it cut?? Better snug up your chain a tad too. Them long ones can reach you, chain catcher or not.
    I'm loving mine with a Tsumara light 36" and Oregon 375 063 full house chisel. Cutting cottonwood and can't stall chain on 28" wood. She's a ripper stock and tuned up (which it sorely needs, mine came in with a very weak spark, quickly traced to a huge magneto gap). Used my friendly local Echo dealers business card (just bought a CS2511t - what a contrast hey?) to regap. nice blue snap now, runs well. Had to mod the choke shaft to get high idle/no choke, but once I worked that out, it's all good. Wish I could put it on a diet, but you want big, you get big.... Ran with muffler off while breaking in, 1st tank - ear shattering. Seems to make good power stock, but you can never have too much, as long as it doesn't effect servicability/reliability. We'll see about a little advance and port work once it's good and settled in.

      Them long ones can reach you, I like that remark. But how true it is, I have a scar on my leg to prove it. Sometimes the hard way is the only way a lesson can be learned.

      I used it yesterday as we have a bunch of down trees on the east coast from the last storm. Anyway, yes it needs a tune. While idling it loaded up with too much fuel and die twice.
