    Wish I lived in B.C. to play a game with ye. Happy I found ye on the tube. I think if Britian is limited to 4 troops each in India. I think the Turks have to take on Russia. British focusing so much on Germany makes it quite challenging. I also think you must have atleast one infantry present so the 6 tanks + 1 plane you cant buy.

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  5 років тому +1

      Yes, the India build has caused quite a stir here, as the OOB rules mention no limit to the builds, but a lot of people say that spells doom for the Ottomans, and effectively takes them out of the game. We flip-flop on that rule.
      You are absolutely correct about the German build. The plan was to move an infantry back to Berlin to allow the build, but it was forgotten. Ah, the confusion of war! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    bummed out central power player didn’t utilize the Russian revolution war more efficiently always rooting for the underdog which are the central powers in this case in terms of balancing. The minute you split troops for a two front war it’s GG Triple Entente victory.Entertaining to watch nevertheless. Hey Daniel, thanks for the info! Yes, a two-front war is usually very bad news for the CP. When we do play with the RR rule, I tend to try a holding action against the West, and put everything I possibly can into Russia - German, AH, and Ottoman troops head for Moscow. I do lose the odd German territory, and AH gets a little pressure from Italy, but it tends to work! Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @dirkvanmourik871
    @dirkvanmourik871 5 років тому +1

    Hi The Hilltop Pillbox. Thanks for the video.
    How about some kind of diplomatic system in which the major powers can align neutral countries? It can make the game more interesting and will also make the game more unpredictable and adds some flavour. Like paying 3 IPC's to influence a neutral, roll a dice to see if the influence is a succes. 3 influence stages. 3rd stage makes the target nation aligned. The target nation can use the received money to buy units. Something like the "Diplomacy" expansion by Historical Boardgaming.

    Entente bungled the Russian front by overextending that huge stack. They should have just hung back and waited for UK to finish mopping up the Ottomans and for the Americans/Italians/French to do their thing in the Western Front.

    • @superilikeeggsyo
      @superilikeeggsyo 4 роки тому +1

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  3 роки тому

      That's a good question. Like all A&A games, you can choose to add things to it in order to make it more stylistic, but it isn't absolutely necessary.
      The one place they do skimp on is German infantry. You only get enough to do the initial setup, so you can't even use a sculpt in your initial build. So, many of us have simply grabbed German infantry from other games to help with that shortfall. I have purchased extras along the way. Tanks are also pretty short, especially if the game goes into rounds 14-20. Three tanks is simply not enough. Again, we grab some from other games.
      Hopefully, the reprint will do a better job of that!

      The story is that in the 2050's, after ww3, Earths governments decide they need to colonise other planets to ensure humanity survives. The helghan corporation colonise Vekta, an Earth-like planet, and helghan, an inhospitable planet rich in minerals. The united colonial administration (UCA) gets upset at the mineral monopoly helghan has and issues tarrifs. This starts the 1st extra-solar war, with the ISA (Interplanetary strategic alliance) crushing them and exile them to helghan. Because of its harsh climate, many helghans die from poverty, malnurioshment and disease, and the helghans economy crumbles.
      Admist the chaos, a young man named scolar visari assumes role as dictator, and i qoute from killzone 3 "Transforms a defeated nation to a military superpower". They need to genetically alter their bodies in order to live on helghan, hence why the soldiers wear mask and that hospital you saw. They grow to hate humanity and see themselves as superior. In 2354, Helghan declares war on Vekta and the UCN and ISA and invades Vekta in a suprise attack. The snd extra-solar war has begun.
      Despite the ISA having inferior equipment, courtesy of the UCN, the invasion is repelled and the ISA plan a invasion of helghan in 2357.
      Operation Archangel fails when the captured scolar visari dies from gunfire. The ISA stage a chaotic Dunkirk-esque evacuation, but helghan has plans on invading Earth with petrusite missles, a gas that causes humans to explode in blood. In a naval battle in the atmosphere, the ship carrying this cargo is destroyed with the petrusite spreading over the entire surface, killing thousands.
      After "the terracide", an uneasy truce is made and the survivors are allowed a piece of vekta city as refuge. A massive wall is erected to keep them seperate, and the two sides enter a cold war in 2360. Sound familiar?

    Based on everything I've seen in this game, it seems too in favor of the Entante, do you get that feeling playing this game too?
    I thought one thing that might help as well as making it a tad more historical is adding a rule that Italy doesn't get a first turn. They don't move their units, they don't collect income (although this might be too harsh and maybe they can be allowed to keep their income), and their territory can't be entered by either side until the beginning of Turn 2. Seems like a good way to draw down the allied economy and give the Central Powers a little better chance at it.

      I like the historical accuracy of that! Maybe we'll try that next time and see if it opens things up a bit for the CP. I think they'll still get their money, or else they would get steamrolled as A-H would have an extra build.
      Yes, the general opinion is that the CP does have a difficult time winning this game. There are some great videos on how Germany can find success, but in reality, if the dice don't do well on even one battle for them, it's very difficult to them to win. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Slip Capone i did not use a bid system , we used the 2 movement rule as described in the tourney rules, used ottoman sea zone as a straight, did not change the starting set up of the game at all , and used the tourney rules for economic and political collapse.

      @@crete1882 Yeah, I'm all set with the 1914 stuff. Got in early on that one! Sometimes the only pieces you need are the ones that cost the most, and although it stings a little, it sure is nice to never worry about needing to substitute different pieces! Enjoy!

    So this is partial tournament rules?
    Are u playing alone?
    Italy should always enter in 1915, otherwise it's almost impossible...

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  5 років тому +1

      Hey Al, yes, no, agreed.
      I think that the main problem for A-H is that they try to expand into Russia too much, and they should send more pressure on Italy. Germany can bring the pain against Russia and keep her busy, and A-H can fight a defensive action until Italy is down to 6 bucks. But, the other thought is to have A-H stack huge against Italy and then go after Russia. A lot depends on how the Ottomans are doing...
      I like the tournament rules, but with new players, we like to have them focus on the nuts and bolts of the game and not worry about more than necessary. Of course, that usually means an Entente win.
