The easiest way to do this, at least for me, is to stand in front of the ladder holding L1 to block. Wait for the harpy to charge you, still holding L1. As soon as the harpy is behind you, turn around and attack with L1+X. I don't remember the name of that move but I do remember that it works like a charm.

My ps3 is up to date for the record, but yes you are right you could install game, disconnect internet so no patches to game and get the glitch to work. Took about 15 tries for glitch to work regardless.
I would really like to help some people out who may have been in my situation. First of all, I can confirm this is do-able with level 4 blades and costumes do not affect it at all. I actually stood right up to the ladder, faced THE LADDER, held L1 (to block) and as soon as she hit my block performed Rising Helios (L1+Triangle). Works every time within about 5-10 tries. redid it twice to check! Hope this helps someone!

Holy shit! Dude I'm so happy! After an hour of trying, I was about to give up thinking it might've been patched, because every time I did the L1 + [ ] the harpy would die. On my final try before I gave up, it decided to work!! I was on normal mode with level 3 blade. All I have to say, is patience is key. The glitch works, but luck has to be on your side. It'll work when it wants to work, otherwise you'll have to keep doing it over and over until you finally do it. Good luck guys :)
I did it on God Mode. Wanted to do it with Level 2 Blades but it's way too hard with Level 2 so i upgraded them to level 3. Remember that i had or have Infinite Magic and i saved up Orbs and i also did a lot of glitches so i Wanted to save the Level 3 Upgrade for later leading to a "Blackout glitch". you upgrade your Blades to the next level while the black screen starts. Starting the Cutscene but after you Level up the Blades you restart checkpoint. After that roll and Smash X. And you skip the Cutscene and the Dog Fight. Same at the start of Ruined Athens. Sorry that must be confusing but all i can say is that i did it and i have like 60k orbs. I'm not sure what are those things called but i called them bars. I have 199 Bars of Orbs. God mode is gonna be easy mode. I wish they let us our Costumes. At least after you defeat God Mode.

Atop Athens rooftops GOW HD collection PS3 (after patch), just after getting thunderbolt this glitch also works on the top most roof where you get another gorgon eye.
This actually happened to me completely out of the blue, but a bit further along from this point. I don't have a capture card to record and upload the event. But this is what happened. I moved Kratos out along the climbing wall part, and after three or four jumps, he kills a harpy, or maybe two, and as I'm hitting the other dudes that emerge from the wall and start attacking, all of a sudden a constant stream of red orbs starts flying up toward him. So, after I kill the other dudes, I follow the orbs to their source, only to discover the harpies have gotten stuck between the edge of a small ledge, and an unopened chest. That's what happened. Now to power up everything to max and really kick ass. One thing I did notice, however, that while the stream of unlimited red orbs is happening, I opened one of those chests that change from blue to green, intending to power up my blue mana bar before I go into the part with the sirens and dudes with shields and the floor that collapses, only to discover my blue mana didn't go up.

Tried it for about 20 minutes, almost getting it to work a few times before the Harpy quickly bounced out of existence. Then suddenly, I got it to bounce like it's bouncin' on his boy's shaft.
People this works! I read this in a walk through and I attempted it. Couldn't get it so of course I turned to UA-cam. I'm currently being fed all my red orbs as I type this ;D oh and I'm playing the GoW collection on my ps3. So yes it does work! Cheers!
It works after approx 15 mins of trying. I'm using lv. 2 Blade of Chaos on medium. FYI, if anyone of you using a Blade of Chaos any level higher than 3 on medium, you most probably can't use this method as you will kill the harpy in 2 hits...

restart your last save. there should be three harpies. kill 2 outside that area. and then there should be one left in that area. when you restart checkpoint he should always spawn in there with you
Just gotta say, so much easier with L1+ [_] (square) than it is with the square+square+triangle, i spent an hour and a half trying to get it like this guy and ended up getting pissed off and rage quitting and when killed the harpy i actually got it
It works guys but it's very difficult to get it right imo. I tried for half an hour straight I think. What worked for me was not tapping the combo too fast and making sure the Harpy is above the ladder during the combo, otherwise it won't work.
there is no way back. but your not "screwed out" for this trophy. you just have to start a new game when your finished this runthrough and do it again.

I just triggered the glitch on the rooftops of athens. I am on the ps now subscription. It was right after you jump around the ivy pillars. These flying things were attacking and instead of killing them I climbed the ladder and killed them there. If you do it by the edge near the ladder you can trigger it.

this does work on God of War : Collection for RPCS3. Took me forever, and thought it might have been patched out somehow, but that isn’t the case.

I was on medium difficulty with level 3 blades and I got it to work. I don't know what the trick is, but it took me about 15 mins.
