Thank you for watching my videos! This channel is dedicated to animal education and improving the lives of captive animals.
    Here’s little about me!
My name is Meghan Arriola and I live in Texas with my husband Jaime, where I dedicate my time to taking care of exotic and domesticated animals on my farm. We run a rescue and sanctuary for animals like alpacas, birds and reptiles. I do animal education presentations for groups and schools. Our alpacas also do events where we are able to teach people about these unique animals. I have used service dogs for medical needs for over 10 years and I am an advocate for assistance animals and mental health awareness.
I am an animal educator that brings science related ideas to an audience from around the world by presenting fun and interesting topics in a family friendly way. Animals touch our lives in unique ways everyday as simply being our pets and companions, but how can we make their lives equally as special now that they live in captivity? My UA-cam channel and blog explore ways to meet this goal by tackling things like animal behavior, human-animal relationships and veterinary medicine. Animal science is a great way to teach people of all ages that education is fun and nerdy is cool.
My previous animal related work experience includes working in veterinary clinics, private zoos, training horses and volunteer work in wildlife rehabilitation, rescue/foster/adoption programs and therapeutic horsemanship for children with disabilities.
When I am not working with animals, I am working at the health care clinic owned by my husband Jaime and I, where we provide services to low income, minority neighborhoods. We have been on the frontlines fighting covid19. I also have a passion for art and I am an award winning painter and photographer and published author. I am naturally very introverted but I am extroverted about sharing my passions and doing my part to make the world a better place!

I can't have any now (I'm a student living in the city) but one day I'd love to keep some chickens of my own! For now watching your videos is nice, informative and I can experience keeping chickens vicariously through you ;) Really liking these chicken vlogs!

They sound great. If I ever get to keep some chickens (fingers crossed) then I have decided on Cochin bantams ( called Pekin bantams here in the UK). They are a true bantam so small hens and eggs but best option for me as I only have small garden to work with. You are so lucky to have a farm and plenty of land.

In Pittsburgh PA it gets pretty hot in the summer & cold in the winter. Probably about 3 months of high 80s & 90s weather.
I'm planning a set up for no more than 4 hens. It'll be in the shade of my backyard

OK, story time: we had a fat, fluffy, slightly deformed (scoliosis) and very weird buff Orpington. She was LOVELY with people. Utterly VICIOUS towards other chickens she was above in the pecking order. She had to be given away.
Also, her eggs were comically undersized for her weight. Haha.
Also it's very cool to see you stroking them like that 😍
My favorite breed is the Pekin bantam. They found there way over to the West after being looted by British or French troops during the opium wars (1st or 2nd) in China. At least that's what I read...sounds plausible.

I can’t believe how big they’ve gotten, already! Wow! I do have some questions (I apologize if I sound like a fool):
    What is their life span?
Is there any chance of accidentally getting a rooster when picking chicks?
Do you choose to store your eggs at room temperature, refrigerate them or use them immediately?
Will you have a rooster and allow...you know...the chicken dance? 🐔🐣🐓
I hope you feel better soon, by the way! ❤️

I think you can house Orpington chickens with Black Astrolorps because they have the same temperament. Also, did you know there’s a bantam version of the breed? They’re on sale on Cackle Hatchery

I've always thought Buff Orpingtons were among the most attractive chickens, but I would rather purchase or adopt the next generation than raise them myself, so I really do not like broody breeds, though Orpingtons actually in my experience are far from the worst there. I actually have a soft spot for Bantam breeds, though granted many of them are broody. I avoid Silkies for that reason. The reasons I like Bantam breeds are they they are cuter and they can lay eggs with a slightly higher percentage of yolk to the overall composition of the egg. I LOVE egg yolk. I bemoan egg white omelets for example. Who would torture temselves by only cooking with eggwhites?

Bantams are super broody! 😂 and egg whites aren't even really any healthier. Have you tried duck eggs? I think you might like them.
