Well, the entire Jedi order collapsed, and quite a few sith like Dooku and Vader were trained by the Jedi order, so canonically, the prequels Jedi had thousands of years of discipline and practice behind them, and Kyle Ren was very poorly trained by a Jedi who was trained by a few old masters without the rest of the order.
You mean Vader vs obi wan…… Yeah I just dead a dumbfounded move…. But it’s still the same on a certain point of view…. But at least the obi wan series duels aren’t even base ball bats and just like proper swords (mainly because of Vader’s limitations and obi wan’s ptsd)
This right here is the correct answer ^ The jedi/sith from the republic era had training from a young age and were brought from apprentice to master in lightsaber forms and styles. Lightsaber wielders from the new republic/first order time period have very little education and training as there isn't exactly schools/temples around to teach them.
@@FireSparq They still had a military that utilized batons, so they should have had a basic understanding to their use. I also find it hard to believe that recordings of sword duels and close quarter combat didn't exist.
in canon, lightsabers vibrate worse than a high priced marital aid. They are legitimately difficult to wield effectively, even if you're skilled in normal swordplay, and force attunement helps you subtly move your hand to compensate for it which explains why Finn or Rey would have a hard time, but the only reason Kylo would be having trouble is if he's stopped listening to the force (given his erratic state of mind throughout, this is a possibility)

@@cooperdesrocher6046 what? in what way is the camera work bad? I have heard A LOT of complaints about the Prequels but the camera work and the lightsaber fights have never one of them
Let me repeat it for you, the camera work is BAD with a capital B. It's a lame CGI shitfest that tries to turn Jedi into Marvel Superheros instead of a decent swordfight with real stakes. Prequel fights are over-coreographed, silly, cartoonish, and undermine the original trilogy's more deliberate and drama-oriented fights.
@@JamesNixon-b7pcompletely agree. And dont get me wrong. I actually like AoTC. Like, if might be one of the most important movies in the original 6.. everything plot wise really comes from episode 2. But the whole duel sequence at the end, dooku vs obi / anakin, and dooku vs yoda, was shot so terribly. They really tried with the yoda CGI, and with christopher lees limitations and them trying to actually include him in as many shots allows me to forgive that duel and find joy in it. But how they shot anakin vs dooku, and the whole scene, was BAD. again, choreography good, filming bad.
Choreography was the whole problem, it threw all realism through the window. Are you fighting for your life or dancing ? Ren chose knight-style over kapoera, how is that wrong ?
@@romdorezIt ain't about realism, it's a movie about people in another galaxy who travel to other planets and fight eachother with glowing swords over random beefs and use some force of nature that exists there in order to fight eachother, since when was it supposed to be realistic? To be honest it does look cooler the old way but anyone with weapons training will tell you it's a bunch of unnecessary movement in reality... although it does take time to learn it all ...that being said the new movies is like watching kids play fight with sticks
Uh no, back then in looked like 2 oaf heads dancing with led sticks. Now it looks like actual dueling. And before you say "Uh but it's supposed to be sci fi and lightsabers are not swords" it's a lightSABER so it would make sense if the duels were closer to realism, even in a sci fi franchise
Form? Are you kidding? The Original Trilogy had WAY better form than Both of these trilogies. Obi wan vs Vader has based off of 1500s Japanese Samurai dueling and Luke vs Vader (Episode 6) was based off fencing and traditional European sword fighting. @@andrewtallman1867 Ren could've had access to the Holocubes to learn better forms, they couldn't have destroyed all the ones that were in the Jedi Temple's library.
Bingo, the prequels were treated too harshly considering the absolute dog shit we got afterwards. The only objectively GOOD live action Star Wars we've gotten since the Prequels is Rogue One and Andor.
The real reason is because the haters are now old and nobody cares about them. The kids that grew up with the prequels are now the majority and have the loudest opinion on the internet. In 20 years the internet will be talking about how good the sequels are.
The reason lightsaber battles are slower is because now the lightsabers have all these lights and electronics in them to make them look better and give scenes good lighting, but that also makes them heavier and more difficult to swing around. So it’s a trade off, do you want prettier scenes and cooler lightsabers or do you want faster fights and better choreography.
Like notice the difference between movies. The sequels lightsabers look so much better and the lighting is just exquisite. While in the prequels they are colored rods of light. I am in no way saying the sequels are better, I am just saying that they new what they were doing and made the decision
No I'm pretty sure there is no choreography but they still give them vague instructions like "Rey should absolutely win despite Kylo Ren showing more mastery and experience" "kylo ren have to look very agressive while attacking" but nothing more

Bro honestly Finn shouldnt have even been able to block a single strike force wielders are said to be really fast and all the other lightsaber fights are supposed to be in slow motion which is what we see so either kylo was really really slow and weakened or Disney just forgot that force speed was a thing

By OG, you mean the original trilogy? If so, then I have no qualms - the original trilogy used choreography from actual swordfighting techniques (obviously adapted and changed a bit for movie flare). The prequel lightsaber fights are by far the most ridiculous of the entire series, including shows.
I think its cause the people in episode 7,8,9 just arent good with the force and have little training with the lightsaber (and kylo is just bad and constantly angry) reason 1,2,3 are good is caused they are taught since birth and know what to do.
One thing about the lightsabers from the newer movies that I noticed is that it looks like each swing, the saber is carrying a lot of weight behind it. Like how the dark saber is heavy when it’s first used but the more the user uses it, it gets lighter
The reason for the changes come from inconsistent decisions from Lucas. In the original trilogy the savers were Excalibur like baton swords that were heavy. Mark hamil lives in Japan in between empire and Jedi and brought back the idea of faster motion and bring back some original inspiration from Japanese samurai duels that Lucas took inspiration from. The prequels amped it up to an extreme by making the sabers so light and excessive flashy moves. JJ Abrahms retook inspiration from Samurai films and brought back kendo and the logical step of adding force powers into the fights. Didn't make the story better till last Jedi but then it becomes a you ruined my childhood with a grown up interpretation of how massive a failure Luke made in training and not stopping Kylo Ren. I don't want a war in comments about why you didn't like a movie but just wanted to add to why the duels look so radically different.

Which one is which?? Lmao. Kylo can’t use a lightsaber for shit he just kinda tosses it around.
You talking about them in real life or in the movies ?
This right here is the correct answer ^
The jedi/sith from the republic era had training from a young age and were brought from apprentice to master in lightsaber forms and styles.
Lightsaber wielders from the new republic/first order time period have very little education and training as there isn't exactly schools/temples around to teach them.
@@Axstr0_. Both? It'd be more embarrassing if Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver got proper training and were still swinging their lightsabers like clubs.
@@FireSparq They still had a military that utilized batons, so they should have had a basic understanding to their use. I also find it hard to believe that recordings of sword duels and close quarter combat didn't exist.
Ngl these were fire as a kid
They swing lightsabers around in the sequels like they weigh 200 pounds.
My problem from the first moment I watched Force Awakens
in canon, lightsabers vibrate worse than a high priced marital aid. They are legitimately difficult to wield effectively, even if you're skilled in normal swordplay, and force attunement helps you subtly move your hand to compensate for it
which explains why Finn or Rey would have a hard time, but the only reason Kylo would be having trouble is if he's stopped listening to the force (given his erratic state of mind throughout, this is a possibility)

They still don't. It's just that there are worse movies now to hate on.
i mean the prequels are still dogshit but they are fun. the sequels are not lol
I'm honestly convinced there's no choreography. They just tell them to have a lightsaber fight.
No I'm pretty sure there is no choreography but they still give them vague instructions like "Rey should absolutely win despite Kylo Ren showing more mastery and experience" "kylo ren have to look very agressive while attacking" but nothing more

Let’s all admit and say the real truth and reality, Rey Skywalker is in fact the greatest masterpiece of a character in Star Wars and the sequel trilogy has the greatest movies in Star Wars.
Also, the sequel trilogy in Star Wars is the greatest trilogy in all of cinema, and considered to be greater than Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Even the experts and the best or legendary directors such as George Lucas, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, and etc consider all the three movies of the sequel trilogy in Star Wars to be the greatest movies in history.
Please no more fighting and bashing other characters, especially Rey Skywalker to say your favorite character is the best, especially Darth Vader or Anakin Skywalker whom Rey Skywalker the real GOAT is infinite times better as a character in writing and relatable, and also more powerful.

Hahahaha its form 45, BaseSwingaresu! Or MarySueresu!
Crossguard lightsabers are heavier and swing slower but are stronger overall.

Lightsaber duels are an art, you don’t just fling them around like they doing now😭🙏
Men, Count Dooku fighting style is so elegant
With Christopher Lee's age on that time, some movement might be done by stunt double, but Christopher Lee himself is also a skilled fencer to begin with.
Credits to them to make the movement look so good.
Some of those prequel duel gave me literal chills. And seeing the actors work so damn hard to perfect and choreograph those movements with actual trained professionals who do this for a living is awesome. Sometimes people can miss it, as it all happens so fast. If you really slow down to pay attention to every action, you truly start to see the real beauty of what Lucas did all those years ago
And it's all completely empty of emotion, or any sense of risk or danger. You know the whole thing is choreographed, nobody is fighting for their lives, they just fight to show off. The Mace Windu vs Sidious one is the absolute nadir of this.
They just swing their weapons around secure in the knowledge they know where the other guy is going to be in the next 5, 10, 20 seconds. The OT and TFA, they actually let one character look over confident, or terrified, or surprised at a move. Yoda bounces around like a maniac and the whole time Dooku is just "hep hop yep now he goes over here and next up is the overhead leap and yep dip dop three moves before I disengage and run away in my space probe lap dap..."
@@gospelofrye6881 it makes sense why they arent showing more emotion as for the jedi they where taught to show no emotion and are all expert duelists that are confident in there ability as for both Palpatine and dooku dooku is not only ex jedi but he is one of the best duelists in the entire series and in any martial art the most important tenet is stay calm and even then dooku showed distress when anakin was overpowering him and lopped his hand off plapatine is a master in both dueling and the force but yoda is as well meaning hye needed to focus completely on the duel with yoda to get the results he wanted
@@asuraofwrath It really is a religion for you people... you can justify anything.
@@gospelofrye6881 not really its just simple logic pro duelists are calm because they are pros they wouldn't be pros without keeping themselves composed that's the most important lesson that almost all professanal skills share a need to be calm while preforming a emotionally or physically stressing task
@@gospelofrye6881The OT and sequel duels are boring asl we don’t care about realism, we want flashy and long lasting duels and the prequels gave us just that. And why would they need to fear for their lives? All the duels we see in the prequels are between experienced duelists(in the movies) so they should be plenty confident in their abilities
The Golden Age of lightsaber duels. Never seen again.
Well duh, it was the time before the killed all the fucking Jedi
Episode 3 has by far the most epic lightsaber duels
They're treating them as a giant axe while the old Jedi are using them as a fencing sword

As of now I’m convinced that the sequels were made with the sole purpose of making us appreciate the originals more 💀

1-3 lightsaber duels were peak imo.
Hayden and Ewan spent days learning the choreography for their duels. And they also did the same for the ROTS video game.
thats even sadder
Their hard work shows. The fights look great. In the newer films, it looks like the actors had much less training, and the filmmakers try to hide this by camera movements, which make the scenes so much less enjoyable.
Days? Try weeks. Maybe even months.
Daisy Ridley claims that she had to spend weeks training with her lightsaber. It sure as heck didn’t come across on film, that’s for damn sure.
Heck, The Baseball Furies treated their baseball bats more like swords in their fight against The Warriors than Ma’Rey Sue and Cry-Lo Ren did in their entire movie trilogy.
The fact that that’s genuinely a thousand times better and it’s not just nostalgia is crazy
This is just an unfair comparison, yoda/sidious as the greatest masters/leaders vs 2 newbues, kylo a young sith and rey that isnt even a jedi yet
@@emet7462 yes sure it's a bit unfair, But not to this extent.
Kylo ren should be way better at fighting especially since he is better than all of the knights of ren and trained first by luke and then by snoke. I can buy the fact that rey (in the first movie) was bad, but both of them should be way better fighters, especially by the third installment.
Even besides their skill look at the styles. In the prequels, every character had a unique style of fighting, reflecting of their character, now it's just so bland.
