HUGE Groupers in 600'! Bait and Slow Pitch Jigs! (Catch/Clean/Cook)

- In this episode we head out for some deep dropping on our 28' Freeman. We were trying out some new sample "NickSticks" in addition to using the regular rods. The goal was to hand crank deep drop in 450 - 700' of water and catch dinner! We wind up catch 3 trophy size Yellowedge Grouper and one of them even eats the slow pitch jig! We also catch some blueline tilefish and snowy grouper! Back at home I bake some fish in the oven for a delicious lunch!

Epic trip! Old KW native living in Palm Beach, new to the channel, subscribed. I was fortunate enough to score a 31 pound Kitty Mitchell and a snowy about the same size last week on a Pulley Ridge trip. My wife and I both had radiation treatments last fall and now followup with some nasty cancer drugs so if that doesn't kill us we're probably golden. Seeing that you have the pleasure of eating large quantities of reef fish, how much concern do you have about ciguatera? An old timer I met at the cancer center got me all spun up about big grouper and cig, no cheeks but just those beautiful fillets are filling the freezer and watching your videos puts me at ease.
Thats a massive Kitty Mitchell! Sorry to hear about the radiation treatments and medication, hope things are better for you both after everything! I have seen one person get ciguatera in the Bahamas, but I don't hear of it here in the States too often. One of my friends said a doctor told him he didn't believe our reefs were "healthy" enough and we shouldn't worry about it here.

@@StanzFam -- Great to hear! Hoping you have a few conventional Nick Sticks with spiral guides going clockwise so I can use a left-retrieve saltwater baitcaster reel (Okuma Komodo 463PLX).
That would be incredibly generous of you guys though. Most spiral wrapped rods are wrapped counter-clockwise to offset the torque of a right-retrieve conventional reel I think.
