Kumena is a gorgeous merfolk. Have a commander deck with him...her..it at the helm. Honestly, the unblockable ability is so underrated. Gonna put some swords of ___ in the deck for reasons.

Kumena use to be a solid fun commander, but the more I’ve upgraded him he’s turned insanely powerful. One of my most powerful casual decks. He was my first ever home brew.

If your commander does the thing, enables the thing and pays off the thing I don't think you can call your deck casual. That's like calling a Voja deck causal.
@@toolittletoolate he's not cedh, just powerful. Voja isn't competitive but IS a pubstomper. My Kumena deck is very simic but definitely casual
Kumena is my favourite, and my only deck Ive had for YEARS.... The draw on endsteps, unttapping, unblockable... It's insane

I was so confused until I looked up Kumena on scryfall. I was looking at the set symbol and was like "but it's from LCC? How is it pioneer legal?"
Don't forget about Vodalian Hexcatcher: sac a merfolk, counter target spell unless it's controller pays 1.
Except you can sac another in response to the player paying 1, causing them to have to pay another 1
If you have enough merfolk generation per turn, you can counter everything unless player pays X, and X is always 1 more than they have untapped

It's a Pioneer deck. I don't feel like checking all those cards but the first wasn't legal I doubt the rest are.

Commanderneer is my favourite format.
It's kinda crazy pioneer has infinite combos. I started playing the game during RTR so it's so weird in just my own lifespan of experience we've gotten some wacky stuff. I know it's been 11 years, but when I started this stuff was a lot less common lol.

I built merfolk just as ixalan went out of rotation so the cards were dirt cheap.
You need non token merfolk not just a merfolk.

Wait so if you tap five merfolk to pump your merfolk but when you tap them they make new merfolk isnt that just infinite since its not their ability tapping them so summoning sickness shouldnt matter?
Not quite! Deeproot only triggers when nontoken merfolk are tapped, so just tapping for Kumena doesn’t go infinite

It is also worth noting that you only gain 1 token regardless of how many you tap in a single instance. In other words, tapping the 5 merfolk with kumena will only generate 1 token, as it is treated as a single event (all 5 taps happen as a single action) rather than 5 individual triggers of tapping one merfolk. Just thought I would clarify so you didn't think the rate was always 1 to 1 as a given.
Wait doesn’t the wording “One or More” mean that you would only be creating one merfolk 1/1 for tapping three to draw?
Edit: On top of that it’s only non-token creatures…

No your thinking of Pauper. Pioneer uses cards from Return to Ravnica forward.

Reading the card explains the card:
Whenever one or more *NONTOKEN*...
So, no you can't go infinite by turn 3.
