This lesson's content has been troubling me for awhile now. I've been trying to learn the bisaya language for several months, and your videos have been a big help. This lesson is great!

I also want to add that "nagainom" has been shortened to "gainom" sometimes by younger people, and of course, it means the same thing as "naginom". I guess they're both informal, however, gainom has been used for all present, past, and future tense, marked by time words like "this morning, today, tomorrow, later, etc." I just thought it was interesting because I've seen many people argue about which one they use more "nagainom" vs "gainom" when they mean the same thing one is just more formal. XP

Also, can you explain the "na" and "ma" prefixes? Also, I think it would also help many learners to teach them about "naka" and "maka" prefixes, it helped me understand so much. Thank you! I love your videos so much!
i totally agree. Naga is use in formal settings like newspaper, church mass, radio, poetry, writing etc.

Maybe the "drop sound" in "sa" could be described as a glottal stop. "Langyaw" could also be foreigner. Great instruction as always.
oh I see. That's just how i describe it as I really do not know the correct term. haha. Yes, langyaw is foreigner. Most of the time,locals just use "foreigner". I seldom hear "langyaw" being use by the natives in everyday use.
The "sa" in this example comes from the word "usa" with a glottal stop at the end of the last syllable. Cebuanos speakers from Cebu have a tendency to shorten words and drop the "u" while maintaining the rest of the syllables. Langyaw is very acceptable but I think it also depends on what dialect of Cebuano you are speaking. I never use langyaw or foreigner, but instead use "estranghero," which my grandmother uses too.
I totally forgot that it was a short cut of "usa". hahaha. Thanks ha. I think we are lazy in pronouncing the proper words. Yeah, I think it depends on the location and words that you are used to. wow "estranghero" is such a laglom (deep) word already for me. I usually hear this word in the local radio drama series. If I will use these words "langyaw and estranghero" in normal conversation I would definitely get a smile and the common comment like "ah ka-laglom sad anang imong...estranghero oi"

Sorry took me sometime to respond.
Ka means "you". This is used when you are the main subject and the focus is on you.
Nimo means "by you, to you, with you"
We used this when the focus is on the object. We normally use the object pronouns [Nako, Nimo, Nila, Ninyo] after a Verb.
Example:
Nikaon na ka? Did you eat already? - Focus is on you
Gikaon nimo ang pan?
Did you eat the bread - The focus here is about the bread. You can also see that "nimo" is placed after the verb gikaon.
Where is the previous video with the mo- prefix lesson? I couldn't find it
In this example sentence the word pero is Spanish adaptation. The Cebuano word for pero is apan. In English it mean but.
Hi Judy, "sa" is like "muna" in Tagalog? Or is it like "na" in Tagalog as in Kain na.
Hi Jedski sorry for the late reply. Yes "sa" with glottal stop on vowel "a" can mean muna like "teka muna" = "Kadali sa" / wait (weyt) sa.
Na = now or already (same meaning for bisaya and tagalog)

Nikaon means "ate" while Nagkaon means "eating". "Ni" is past tense while Nag can be in the past or present tense.

@@tan.elliazaclaref4989 ok lang Clare. Ni at Nag part sila sa Simple Tense. Usually, inaatach yan sa mga verbs. NI for past tense, NAG/GA past or present and MAG for future tense. Actually, marami pang iba. May mga lessons na po ako sa mga prefixes pero Open lang po kasi yung lesson na iyon sa mga paid subs ko po. Hindi kasi lahat ng lessons ko andito sa UA-cam.
