All of the HBCU bands are absolutely mind-blowing. Jackson is the capital of the State of Mississippi and Jackson State’s music program is one of the best in our country. The Sonic Boom of the South is THE band to be reckoned with and not an easy one to get admitted to. Most of this isn’t close to their best performance as the first one i Is all percussion. To get the full effect you need the percussion, woodwinds, and horns. It will knock your socks off.

The Jackson State University Marching Band sets an extremely high bar for HBCU and college bands in general. I've seen other bands that are exceptionally good but the Sonic Boom is the standard. I'm saying this and I've attended Lincoln University of Missouri back in the early to mid 90s and now trying to finish up at Chicago State University and has started its own marching band.
I’m a Mississippian, and The Sonic Boom has been acknowledged as the best of the best my entire life. Undeniable talent and entertainment. They earn that appreciation.

Thanks for sharing. The amount of time they spend practicing is unbelievable. By the time the public sees it the people have done the show so many times that they could almost do it in their sleep. The movements are basically by muscle memory and their concentration has to be on the music. They are playing very tough renditions of the songs and marching/ moving at the same time. Also notice that the drummers are all hitting with the same stick (right or left) at the same time. All on top of a full academic schedule, they truly deserve a hats off for their commitment and dedication to hard work

Great review sis...and showing love to HBCU's. In the 90's and when I was middle school, I played trumpet, in Texas...The next year, I tried out for drum major and made it. We have to learn how to read music and have played an instrument, and still compete to be a drum major. Whatever your instument is, you still gotta play that instrument in practice. When I was drum major, My band director made me march and high-step, like J5 and told me to high-step till both my knees hit my chest and stomp so hard that I wanna stomp a hole through pavement. These really are musicians; we marched in the MLK parade, and it was miles long and was almost an hour. In those days, if we got second place in a parade, director made us do pushups and sprints....It sounds great, and these are all musicians. Great band JSU🎶
Courtney in fairness I suggested this in ur last video so I’m going to tell u how their lining up Drum majors : the guys that lead the band ( they’re called drum majors / section leaders bcoz there are so many each instrument gets its own section leaders) Majorettes Section leaders : trumpets , bass, saxophone, drums The band itself 8:50 is the drum line Hope u enjoy Courtney blessing you from California These are a few HBCU bands ua-cam.com/video/vIX3AuqPKLs/v-deo.html ( grambling : located in Louisiana ), ua-cam.com/video/TW8Xk6ZCdW8/v-deo.html ( Jackson state ) ua-cam.com/video/5IGEl5XfVho/v-deo.html ( Jackson state vs Tennessee state ) hope u like them I’d love to hear ur opinions

In the off season(summer) they practice 20 hour days most times and that’s why everything is on point. I’m from Mississippi myself. It’s crazy and awesome.
The marching band is the standing army of their school. They are a ceremonial army so their instruments of war are their musical instruments, precision and movement.
Courtney. Im from Mississippi and my cousin and some family members went to Jackson State University. The Drum are called "The Jachson Five", after the famous singing group. The dancers are called "The J- Settes". The are considered to the BEST in the United States all Black university marching band. The sound is so loud thats how they got their name "The Sonic Boom of the South" since the 1960's!
Message me I can tell you everything about most HBCU (Historical Black Colleges and Universities) marching band. For instance, most universities give their dance team different names, for example "The Blacks Foxes", "The OO La La Dancers", "The Champaign Dancers" and "The Stingettes". There is a history of all band. Then you have to watch an all Black Greek "Step Show" it will blow your mind.
The March out is from the music building to the stadium. This happens every game day. Plus there is the March in back to the music building from the stadium.

And the Drum majors of BCU this HBCU IS LOCATED in Daytona Beach Florida
Antonio Woods BETHUNE COOKMAN
Jefferson Davis high school has an amazing marching band. Their drum majors are awesome to watch as well. The leaders nick name is vanilla funk.
Courtney in fairness I suggested this in ur last video so I’m going to tell u how their lining up
Drum majors : the guys that lead the band ( they’re called drum majors / section leaders bcoz there are so many each instrument gets its own section leaders)
Majorettes
Section leaders : trumpets , bass, saxophone, drums
The band itself
8:50 is the drum line
Hope u enjoy

Wow, you are bringing back memories and making me shed tears. I was blessed to attend Jackson State University and I marched in Da Boom for four years. Yes, you are correct that there is a lot of practice involved. But besides the practice, there is PRIDE. I am so happy and honored to see my band continue their rich traditions. LUV DA BOOM! Crab 87" (SOP, Source of Power) Old School!

This is my school. Thank you for the feature.
THEE Merge is the first time old band members and new band members practice/perform together for the start of the season

You should watch the J-Settes! It's the dance line of JSU SONIC BOOM OF THE SOUTH. Get into the HBCU DANCE line experience. You won't regret it!
Heccckkkk yeahhh!!! We’re all about this in the south! A lot of my friends were in this band
The crowd in the background is sending me “Alright Alright *Alriiight* “ 🤣🤣🤣
Wow... Thank you so much ! #LuvDaBoom 💙
The song the drummers is playing is called Series. It's like 30 minutes long.
Please react to “football hype up chants compilation” it’s a 7 and half minute video that shows the passion that goes into every game of football!

@@phyllislowe3942 Devry
Williams Twins 😂 “Flukebox” you must be pretty mad huh?
@Williams Twins So is it Southern? I attended FVSU. I am not familiar with all the Rivals in SWAC and MEAC.
@Williams Twins I'm a Juke,...not a fan
That's Awesome! I'm from Mississippi. Baby Boom Alumni!! Tuba Dawg!! Appreciate the shout out Courtney!
She would have fainted to see the Tiger run.
Yes!!!
Imo this is one of the less impressive videos I would have shown. So many jaw dropping moments from the Boom and HBCU bands!
the HBCU schools Grambling State and Southern University play an annual rivalry football game called The Bayou Classic but almost all the fans go just to see the battle of the bands. the football game is more of the sideshow lol
I know this whole routine by heart lol
In the off season(summer) they practice 20 hour days most times and that’s why everything is on point. I’m from Mississippi myself. It’s crazy and awesome.
I have been telling u for 2 moths about black marching bands... "Drumline"... totally worth it, Right?
The marching band is the standing army of their school. They are a ceremonial army so their instruments of war are their musical instruments, precision and movement.
A very different experience from your traditional college marching bands
Thanks for showing love 💙💙💙 #luvdaboom
The baddest band n the land Sonic boom of the South mississippi checking in "McComb Ms"
Umm I would have to say a tie between Jackson state and southern state
@@yungblakkpueblobishop4130 yea they both are bada$$
I'm so glad you reacted to this. Jackson State is in Mississippi.
The March out is from the music building to the stadium. This happens every game day. Plus there is the March in back to the music building from the stadium.
I love this...thank you thank you for this...I love marching bands...I use to b in a marching band in high school...can you plz react to Grambling State Marching Band and Southern University Marching Band😊😊
Ayy our previous drum major plays in Grambling State. Goes by the name of John
Very Impressive. The D Majors are very fluid and precise. Love that split at 3:20. That sounded like the FAMU Death March ,near 9:05 mark. Nice. Cool ,authentic Commentary.
The BADDAST band, hardest working Jsettes and Drummajors in the land!!!
I grew up in Jack-Town and I will never forget the Homecoming Parades, Games and most of all the Sonic Boom Of The South!! What memories that can't be explained and never duplicated. I'm glad to see you appreciate the real Dirty South. Mississippi Fo life!!! Gittttt Dowwnnnn!!! #Mississippi Moccasin
Love your video. Check out the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, "Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South!"
This video was mostly of the practice sessions of the Jackson State University band. They were not even wearing their band uniforms. You must watch them and other historically black college (HBCU) bands perform at "halftime of an actual football game!
Black college bands in the south are the best. The New Zealand woman is cute, by the way.
The drum section is called war and thunder, I do know a lot about Sonic boom of South being a member of the boom over 50 years ago, the sonic boom is known for blowing jazz hip Hop r&b funk rock and roll you named the music and you going to get it real good, I am Sonic boom for life, war and thunder
You should react the Virginia Tech Hokies football team entrance to Enter Sandman. Arguably one of the best entrances in college football

Courtney, I recommend you watch the movie "Drumline", starring Nick Cannon. You will get the full sense of marching bands at HBCUs!
