- Опубліковано 7 сер 2007
- Nas takes a shot at Jay-Z in this freestyle. The instrumental is Eye for an Eye by Mobb Deep.
LYRICS:
Yo this Nas niggas whuttup?
QB Album coming, niggas I'll Will, Bravehearts
My nigga DJ Clue - put this shit on these niggas
Desert Storm baby 2000!
A Drug dealers dream - flip his last Ki out the game
'Cause entertainment money now is off the chain
I put blunts in niggas caskets, lost in the game
I learned about pain, bodies burnt in the drug game
But I'm neva gonna die, I neva heard of death
Energy could neva be destroyed only the flesh,
so when you niggas try to murder me with bullets to my head
This is why you can't kill me niggas, I'm already dead, BRING IT!
I'm busting- bodies fall in the cemetery, black blood raining on the street
All you niggas, buried y'all
Niggas that just came home, fresh out the state greens
Five time felon's, think he jelling in Queens
It's pitiful - what bid could do, especially federal
Y'all young thugs wilding, see prison
Got a bed for you waiting,
I clapped at Satan
But thought I was dreaming
I woke up masturbating in the bed with demons
I cried with every bit of strength in my small body
This is the life I chose, under God I'm tiny
Hard to find me, I popped up, lock shop up
You can't B.I., see I'm eternal, not luck
You get shot-up, boxed-up next for the grave
Your flow is one dimensional, your level is 2nd grade
You on top - WHAT?
Copying fuck, I said it first, you repeated
Your false crown covered in dirt - defeated
Y'all niggas all hail, the King is dead
He running like a bitch with his tail between his legs
'Stillmatic', still eye 4 an eye, wanna be God
You just the next rapper to die, fucking with Nas
The instrumental is Mobb Deep- "Eye for an Eye"

This the forgotten part of the Nas Jay battle
Holiday Styles i think ether was so hard everyone one was like nah jov learned his lesson , so it didn't get as much burn
Thing is, Nas dropped a lot of tracks during that era referencing Jay directly and indirectly. But, yes, this is a gem that a lot of people missed.
Was this after or before Ether?
Not forgotten by us old heads. Clue mixtapes were big in NY. This is way harder than ether.
If I remember Nas dropped this either before or after Supa Ugly?
Nas is a MONSTER lyrically! Jay woke up a sleeping giant by dissing him. I know he regrets it everyday.
lol every fckn day
Gotta learn to live with regrets.
He can’t regret it …he’s a puppet he had no choice but to follow orders ! Jay was Dmx in the movie belly out to just kill the man who trying to wake up his people from tyranny
Jay z and Nas both financially benefited from the beef. Both got bigger and richer.
@@louischapman3716Yep. I was at the Source Soundlab out in Hollywood back in 2001. Nas was there and Jay Z, Bleek, and Beans came through and were just yards away from Nas. Nothing happened. I was with one of the magazine managers. I turned to him and said "Yo, did you just see that?" He was like "Yeah, that beef is not real, it's a money move." And he would know because he knew Nas and Jay.
I swear to God i could listen to this over and over and never got tired of it
that like a lot songs by NAS
DarkshadowXD63 Lol true

Nas a bad mofo and people got the audacity to say jay won.
@@keyboardgangsta6890 jay did win
i love jay's style so much but i have to admit nas really has a history of slapping him up pretty badly

@@tyresefisher3921 Yeah, nah.
@@tyresefisher3921even jay awknowledged Nas won
@williamshakespeare9815 nah he didn't
the verse that won the battle with Jay-Z that no one knows & doesn’t even have 1 million views.
Jay proceeded to drop 2 - 3 more songs after this but never achieved this level of aggression & technical mayhem.
To the public watching Jay was victorious...
to the real ones with a true love for hip-hop & wisdom he remains in 2nd place
The h to the omo freestyle and this proclaimed Nas’s superiority to me. And I’m a big Jay fan but holy shit he got spanked
The public knew nas won. Only jay fans are saying Nas lost
Na the public say NaS won. I’m pretty sure Jay himself was like “yeah NaS won that, but let’s make peace”
Can't B-I
To who jay was victorious 😂😂😂? That’s a lie New York and everyone took Nas side after ether
Man oh man...whew! So many classic poetic gems in this:
"...I clapped at Satan but thought I was dreamin,
I woke up masturbating in a bed with demons,
I cried with every bit of strength in my small body,
this is the life I chose, under God I'm tiny..."
The imagery in those bars is out of this world (not to mention the verse before about already being dead). This shit is something out of a Langston Hughes piece. After he spits humbly and poetically, he then proceeds to bury Jay...Nas is the best to ever do it. No question.
That nigga sold his soul. He just told you subliminally.
Unseen Fundamentals if anyone sold his soul it was Jay. Nas gave you scripture that went over your head.
Yo fax wtf I’ve seen you somewhere else too but I thought I was the only one that felt those bars the most that kept me captive double entendre (;
Lol I know now, it’s from Prodigy dissing Keith Murray and Tupac video I saw you clarifying
@@sybergaus what up, Homey. Peace
Agreed. Ether was a lyrical assassination. No one to this day dropped a better diss.

This is one of the hardest joint i ever heard from Nas. Eventhough it's freestyle it hard as fuck. Nas is probably top 3 lyricist of all time in the hiphop.
What do you mean "even though its a freestyle"? Freestyle takes more skill than written lyrics
Even if it’s a freestyle, in the sense that he didn’t hear the beat beforehand, the verse here was clearly written beforehand and memorized
@@qqqmyes4509 hes on the original song its called eye for an eye by mobb deep hes verse on that is a classic as well
Perfect summary of the battle. Nas killed Jay! Jay can't fuck with Nas at this lyrical shit period.

this old but the flow and lyrics still blows my mind !
Always gotta visit this once in awhile
Nas blows my mind!!! I like Jay but I LOVE Nas, he's always been the greatest to me, he always keeps it real. Like he gets all my respect! Ether > Takeover

Nas lyrics > Jay Z's lyrics (No competition in that at all)
Nas ranges from the essence of reality on a personal level that connects with the streets and everyday life in a metaphorical and poetic way
Jay Z has done that with only one album, the rest is about his repetitive arrogant ass bragging about his rich life over and over and over
Jay Z is just a rapper with skill
Nas is a poet, an MC

The Nas/Jay beef brought somethin really special out of Nas! Too ill!
Jay is mainstream cause he went mainstream. He changed his style to fit into the mainstream. Nas is mainstream cause he brought the mainstream to him. All in all he always stayed true to himself, he never changed - he's mainstream cause he's dope.

"black blood rainin on the street" killed it
His flow is serious
Jay been throwing subliminals and trying to get Nas attention since 1996....nas aint mention jay-z by name on his 1st two albums the way Jay did Nas...Jay knows who the better MC was & is!
I know I'm 3 years too late but this isn't true at all. Nas started this beef. He was shading Jay since Jay came in. He shot at Jay early on the message. Then he called out Jay for calling himself King of NY and using big name in vain. It was then that Jay finally responded to the years' festering tension between he and Nas. In a way you could liken it to Carlito and Benny Blanco from Carlito's way. Carlito (Nas) kept curving Benny (Jay) when really all Benny/Jay was trying to do was break bread with Carlito/Nas. Nas was on some ego stuff. And Nas is my guy first but this is just the facts.
@@erfbgu2643 only difference is JAY (benny) dies not Carlito. plot twist !
Erfbgu 2 this is the truth. Though Nas didn’t have to do a collab if he wasn’t feeling Jay. Why he didn’t want to is anyone’s guess. Maybe it’s the way jay approached him, trying too hard. Maybe nas just saw him as an opportunist so kept his distance. Maybe jay was too close to big and nas saw him as being from a different camp since he had a respectful rivalry with big.
@@TheDno101 Steve Stoute probably was in Nas's ear messing with him saying Jay was coming for his spot. Or maybe Jay was eager...this explains Nas curving him but it doesnt explain Nas taking a shot at Jay on the message.

DJ Clue had sum sick ass Mixtapes
This man never ceases to amaze me
BY FAR THE GREATEST MC OF ALL TIME! THIS MAN IS A TRUE "GOD" MC! I AIN'T GONNA LIE, I REMEMBER WHEN NAS FIRST CAME OUT. I HAD HIS FIRST TAPE (CDs WAS STILL UP AND COMING BUT NOT YET HOUSEHOLD) AND GAVE IT AWAY BECAUSE I WAS FEELING WU-TANG CLAN SO HARD THAT I DIDN'T GIVE NAS A SHOT. FAST-FORWARD 1996 I'M 23 AND RIDING WITH MY BOY ON THE WESTSIDE OF CHICAGO MY CITY AND HE PLAY "IT WAS WRITTEN"! I WAS LIKE WTF!!! I TOLD MY BOY PLAY THAT AGAIN! HE PLAYED IT! PLAY THAT AGAIN! HE PLAYED IT AGAIN. WHO IS THAT? HE SAID NAS, DUDE ON RAEKWON "ONLY BUILT 4 CUBAN LINKS" VERBAL INTERCOURSE SONG! THEN I REALIZED THAT WAS THE GUY TAPE WHO I GAVE AWAY. SO I WENT TO GEORGE'S MUSIC ROOM ON ROOSEVELT AND PULASKI AND GOT "IT WAS WRITTEN" AND "ILLMATIC" AND BEEN HOOKED EVER SINCE! I HATED JAY-Z WHEN THAT BATTLE WENT ON! EVEN THOUGH THE BATTLE IS OVER AND BEEN ALMOST 25 YEARS AGO I STILL HATE JAY-Z FOR THAT! GO NAS LIVE ON KING!!
2021 and this still hits as hard as it ever did... Nasty Nas for real
Jay-Z only blew up when HE switched up his flow to sound like Nas. Before he was like Bone Thugs with a stutter.
Facts but with out that annie song I think it was hard knock life jay z wouldn't be the jay z everybody knows that song put him in a great position for commercial success
Jay sounds nothing like Nas...not on any level...U reaching....Jay switched his style of rapping because he had been rapping in that "Das FX" style of rap since 85 and wasn't getting anywhere with it...he didn't always rap in that style tho...but it was his perverted style...him and Jaz O fathered that style...everybody else bit that style FROM JAZ O AND JAY Z...Biggs had alot to do with Jay switching his style also...Biggs wasn't going to fully invest because he didn't like that style of rap...so Jay being the business man he is he switched it
..see the In My Lifetime video they shot in St. THOMAS in 94 BEFORE NAS DROPPED if I'm not mistaken or around that same time....Jay was starting to switch his style then...Jay a Broomlyn MC...if he bit anybody its BDK

The hardest diss from Nas towards Jay-Z was "Ether" hands down! The day after he released it Jay-Z was 😭 literally! Don't get me wrong I don't hate Jay-Z but he dissed the hell out of Jay-Z with that track! Jay-Z made an answer back track but it wasn't as hard as "Ether"!
NY stand up, real Hip Hop.
Jay didn't understand that this was a warning shot to fall back and leave son alone... I guess hot 97, Def jam, and roc members pumped Duke up to get that ass whipping publicly

Jay Z can’t go to the depth Nas reaches
people don't know the difference between; underground, mainstream and commercial.
nas hasn't been underground for 19 years now. but he sure as hell aint never been no radio rapper, therefore he isnt what you would call a commercial rapper like jay z.
nas the best to ever do it tho.

Nas was mainstream after he made the greatest album of all time Illmatic at 19!! A Young Don
At 21
nas destroyed jay z in the battle. And I like jay z' oldschool raps but still nas darked him up
nas won but didn't kill him because takeover was 🔥🔥
The Takeover vs Ether.. No brainer
E Money takeover was hard the one that shoulda ended it all, even nas career I'll admit that!
no one was expecting nas to answer back and when he did most were shocked.
when nas dropped ETHER nas met jay at a level and broke him down.
jay thought he was goina win the battle exposing him playing with his meat(lets see see if you can catch what i meant!?)
so jay dropped super ugly which didn't stand as one of jays best, in fact the end didn't make sense
and since you're infatuated with saying that gay shit
yes you were kissing my dick when you was kissing that bitch
ok, if he was fucking nas wife, then he was on nas dick, Carmen was nas wife am i correct?
super ugly was therefore a flop but every emcee has a dried piece, even eminem.
the takeover was lynching but ETHER was murderous!
ETHER is the song that affected jay that in a song he says
i got nice since ether- what did that mean?- did he admit he lost?
now saying that, the lost doesn't take away his accomplishments in hiphop, does it?
reasonable doubt is still a classic along with others.
when i say he lost, well jay admitted it himself.
still, i never nor are others who said he lost say he wasn't great- would he admit that?- of course not!
I tell it like this Hit Um Up was the most ignorant diss record ever but Ether snatched Jay Soul people never wanna admit tht Jay was silent for almost 6 months after Nas killed him wit tht Nas is my generations Rakim & Jay Z was the Big Daddy Kane...Nas can always go to the grave knowing he became a star off of pure talent & a game changing verse(Live@TheBbq) then a game changing album (Illmatic) Jay didnt blow until he changed up his Originator flow & spit hustle stories dnt get me wrong Reasonable Doubt is a Classic & Jay gets busy he jst cnt fuck wit the God Nas
Prib-302 100% co-sign. As much luv as I got for Pac, Ether is the most overrated diss track of all time. It's audacity is what made it. On the other hand, Ether was surgical. It dissected Jay from top to bottom on a real hip hop level, not industry and female gossip. Jay is still an all-time great but Nas exposed him for what he is...a great chameleon rapper while Nas is authentic to the bone.
Remember when this first dropped. Had a couple other bangers on this mixtape also. Dropped a good clear time before the whole Takeover/Ether joints. I remember revisiting this freestyle after Ether had dropped and connecting the dots.. In many ways Nas lyrics to Jay on this became somewhat prophetic. Nas was truly playing chess in their matchup. "The General" by Nas that dropped 6 weeks or so before Ether also laid out what Nas had in mind. Classic NY times and I ain't even from there✊🏿
facts, i remember it too
