  • An extremely rare move for four of Freightliner's class 59s took place on Christmas Eve as, due to the closure of the Whatley branch and Merehead being full, Freightliner moved four class members via the West Coast Mainline to Crewe VMF for Christmas maintenance, instead of sending them back to the West Country.
Running as 6X59 from Wembley Terminal Complex to Crewe Basford Hall and an hour behind schedule, 66540 "Ruby" leads 66607, 59203, 66572, 59104 "Village of Great Elm", 59204 and 59202 "Pride of Ferrybridge" through Cheddington. 59s are almost unheard of on the West Coast these days, so certainly a sight to behold!

Not a common occurrence at all - off the top of my head, these are the first 59s up the West coast since 2017!
Thanks for watching, have a great Christmas.
