Tried em on at Revzilla Newport Beach today, visors are pretty sketchy to change, (see 11:10 ) you have to line up the little red moving detent piece w lens pin so there are 2 things per side that have to be stabbed in harmony and the red detent clicker moves on you down VERY easily. Like he says youll need a toothpick or tiny allen wrench.. etc; to keep the red detent piece it in its proper place as you install the lens. Almost a deal breaker pita! I wouldnt be surprised if Astars redesigns it early lifecycle. A clear lens makes it easier to see the lens pin/red detent that falls down out of place until you get used ti dealing w it i guess. If the Bell Star carbon had individual detents between open/closed I would just stick w Bell but bc they wont flow enough air unlocked im moving on.
You can use your motorcycle key to move the detent, no? Seems like if you absolutely need to move the detent youre gonna have your moto key as well. No need to carry a small tool, although most people do anyways. I dont ride without a metric allen set minimum. I have learned my lesson on the road when my fuel tank line got disconnected and i was going from building to building to get a hex key to remove my seat and lift my tank.
I’ve been torn between an X-15 and this one. I like that Alpinestars includes BOTH a clear and tinted visor. With the X-15, it’s a separate purchase for a tinted visor. My bike is built with a good amount of carbon fiber which is what leans me to the Alpinestars. I’ve had 5 X-14’s and they’re just tried and true. This is a first time go around for Alpinestars which is a slight worry for me but it sounds like they really did their research here. Decisions decisions…
These helmets have been used in MotoGP for a while now, so they have been tried and tested. My vote is for the R10 because they have a larger lateral visibility. The way that Shoei sits on your head, you won’t have as much of a view as the R10 at full tuck.
@@desmocat_ I was leaning toward it until I saw that they’re made in china. That’s really disappointing when you’re directly competing against Shoei and their X line. Still to this day each is handmade by 50 people in Japan.
@@ThatCleanMT Thanks for the information. Disappointing to hear about it being made in China. The AGV Pista GP RR is the same price point, and it’s made in Italy. I’m also in the market, you steered me towards the X-15.
I was expecting a much higher price tag. Seems to be a good number of ~$1k options out there. Not that I’m excited about that, but it’s in good company.
Remember guys. Don’t cheap out. My RX7 saved my bacon big time in my last off. Lucky enough it was also relatively new. Replaced it with another one. Brain injury has been the hardest of my injuries to cope with although I suppose medication helped dull the 11 or 12 fractured bones.
Got mine. Overall a very good helmet but a few misses. I always struggle with comfort. I have Pista GP RR, Signet X, XSPR-Pro etc. Always have comfort issues as I am longer oval. They break in eventually but only after months of discomfort. This is definitely between long oval and intermediate oval so I have zero comfort issues around the circumference of my head from day one. Mild jaw pain after an hour or so but I’m confident that the cheek pads will break in nicely. If it doesn’t I can order thinner cheek pads. The helmet really disappears at speed. It’s very light and head checks don’t cause buffeting. I’d say it’s very quiet for a race helmet. The vents actually work and one gets used to the somewhat strange visor locking mechanism. There’s a feeling of your head being enclosed and the shell feels close and compact. Downsides are the helmet feels a bit squeaky and cheap vs Shoei, Arai and AGV, as does the thin, flimsy box and accessories just thrown into it vs the aforementioned brands that have polystyrene blocks to secure the helmet and accessories. It’s just a bad first impression for an otherwise decent helmet. The biggest miss for me is the absolutely useless chin curtain. After a claimed 10 year development cycle they decided to design a narrow, u-shaped chin curtain that does absolutely nothing to stop wind blasting you in the face. I just don’t understand why they didn’t make a triangular chin curtain like most other manufacturers. I can make a third party piece work but will lose the lovely red-piped trim and OEM look. Alpinestars need to issue a replacement extended curtain quickly. But they won’t. Also, you can’t use the spoiler and chin curtain at the same time like you can with the Shoei. Like a lot of Alpinestars products I think it is close to being stellar (pardon the pun) but just falls a bit short. I am undecided about keeping it or selling it. Also, this should be made in Italy for this kind of money, not China. If Arai and Shoei can make a profit manufacturing their helmets in Japan I’m sure Alpinestars can come up with successful domestically made items. Maybe that’s the reason for the budget feel of everything despite all the design and development. It performs quite well when riding but I think if the worst happened I’d still rather crash in a Shoei or Arai.
Revzilla, do you have a comment on the fact that these are made in China? This is a premium helmet that’s going up against big brands like Shoei or AGV which are handmade in Japan and Italy. Alpinestars seems like they really cheaped out here.
I'd recommend holding one and trying it out first before casting judgement. Not everything made in China is terrible, and considering this is one of my favorite helmets I've tested in the past 7 years - I'd check it out before just looking at the label. But hey, I just test all these things for a living so 🤷♂
@@patrickmchugh8039 I understand that not everything made in China is bad. However as someone who is familiar with all things racing helmets, just as you are, it’s completely unacceptable to enter the market against the long time established big players who don’t outsource their helmet manufacturing to China. That’s an immediate bad look. They’re up against the likes of Shoei, Arai, AGV… Japan and Italy handmade manufacturing. Entering the market with “made in china” for your flagship market entry helmet is gonna make any reputable racer take pause.
@@ThatCleanMT 2 issues I take with that: first, the premise of your argument is still that being made in China is immediately bad, without having seen the helmet or checked it out (unless you bought one of the LE SR-10's?). I take issue with that as a product tester. You can use that to justify issues you find after the fact if you'd like, but not to start your fact-finding mission with. And second; this is there first street helmet whereas Shoei / Arai / AGV have been making helmets for over 150 years collectively. Of course they have the factory in their home countries to do it. I think it is insanely unreasonable to expect Astars to build a factory for something that may not work especially during the last 4 years in the world market. Yes, I hope they bring their MotoGP level helmets in house like AGV in the future (since the rest of AGV is made in Asia), but I'd rather Astars go to China / Korea / Asia for their first helmet instead of using their competitors factories in Europe like Shark / Nolan etc. The second point can be changed in the future once they establish a good set of helmets, but the first point is just along the lines of people thinking a tag from China inherently means trash and I'm not about that.
@@patrickmchugh8039 The problem with it being made in China is they've clearly done it to make the helmets for cheap yet they're charging the customers a fortune for Made in China while their competitors are charging the same fortune for Made in Japan, Italy, Germany etc...
Kinda reminds me of my old UVEX Onyx Carbon. Now that was a helmet! -Only 1Kg heavy, macrolon visor that never fogged up - no pinlocks required. Its a shame UVEX didn't continue that path - it is a vastly superior Cerbon Helmet even by today's standards - and it was more than half a price than this Alpinestars
I currently ride a Harley (22 Lowrider S) and I wear a Shoei RF1400. Wonder how this helmet would function for a rider who is mostly in an upright position
Great review! It would be cool if you could add time stamps (chapters/sections) in the description - that would really help when comparing other helmet reviews of yours.
We tested it on our Street Triple Rx for about 4 months before we could post about it, and it was great. An hour each way in traffic / highway / twisty roads and it was great, and even better at higher track speeds. Adjusting the A-head system helps you make it more comfortable for sport bikes and then naked bikes giving it a ton of versatility. Unsure if our product tester Pat will give the sample back he liked it so much ha!
Good to know this helmet may fit my head shape. I've been exclusively using Scorpion because of the more oval fitment; currently in the Scorpion EXO-R1 Air Juice Helmet but this seems like a good alternative. A bit pricey though.
A quiet, triple-homologated helmet sounds ideal! Too bad it only comes in the sporty trim. I wonder what it would look like without the spoiler. I want a quiet, protective, comfortable urban helmet. I think my head is a bit rounder than average too. If Alpinestars made something that competed with the Arai Rapide and the Shoei Glamster, I'd give it serious consideration!
Did you guys notice any difference in the aerodynamics when you were wearing it with the comm/Cardo system? Debating on putting mine on but worried about ruining the whole point of the helmet and it’s aerodynamic design cause it’s the best feeling helmet that I’ve ever worn, cute right through the wind.
No, our test rider Pat did both style of rides intentionally to see. At normal highway speeds there wasn't any tangible difference in aero. It got a bit noisier (since the unit is off to the side of the helmet), but no real noticeable drag at those speeds.
Confirmed, Astars was back and forth on including it when we shot the video, they opted on including it with the graphics only (since those are color-matching spoilers) and will have the spoilers separate along with the carry bag.
Cool helmet, eventually I might get one, but I still love my Bell RacePro. I don’t need it right away I don’t know why it took them this long to make a helmet. They have been making everything else for decades.
One thing these reviews don't mention is they sell thicker crown pads for a more snug fit. I had to order one for my XL cause my head is 61-62cm around the crown and the pads that came in mine are 8-10mm which were a little too loose so I got the XL 15mm crown pads. I'll edit this if it fixes my issue!
I think it’s a great addition to the top helmets but for the price I just can’t see it being very competitive against the Pista and x15. I think it’s a bold move by Alpine Stars really. You have tried and true helmets from arai, shoei, and AGV I feel if they sell any it will simply be based off looks alone.
@@brandenlandry5575 wind noise it pretty loud in my opinion but the fitment is perfect. The helmet is pretty light and it cuts through the air like no other helmet I’ve owned.

Thanks so much for this Video, i love this helmet. a quick Question, can the Parts outside the helmet easy removed to paint them? ventilation, plastic parts and this stuff? Spoiler is removable for sure.
Yeah the Limited Edition carbon Red version was awesome, but only 200 were made of that one. As for the weight, we'd suggest holding it first before you cast judgement, it feels like one of the lightest helmets out there (especially when wearing it) because of how well it's balanced. If they were aiming for low weight only, they likely would've ditched the spoiler, aero package, and used a cheap thin shield - but that wasn't their goal.
Can you guys please add chapters in the description? I am very interested in this helmet but not interested in combing through 20 minutes of video to get my questions answered.
Question! I was trying on some shoei helmets yesterday, the x15 and R14. Seems medium fit me best. I want to order one of these and heard they fit small. Should I go to large if I'm a medium in a shoei?
Was waiting on this, but got the new Nolan X-804RS instead. All the features for half the price. Would be nice to have the FIM certification like these, although I don’t need it.
It'll be a tight fit but the Cardo JBL 40mm speakers fit just fine. We didn't test the 45mm speakers though, since we use the standard Packtalk JBLs. (We had them installed on the white version in the video)
Well I stopped in to my local Cycle Gear with my new R10 and created quite the stir since they had not seen one yet. The 45mm speakers which they had in stock do fit quite tightly and you do have to put a small groove with your thumbnail in the EPS to let the speaker wire out. But they do fit where they don’t fit in the X15. So I am a happy camper. Loving the helmet so far.
Most helmet interior liners will break in about 10-15% with us. A good fitting helmet should be tight out of the box so that it still fits you when the liners break in from the sweat / etc with usage. A loose fitting helmet is up there with not wearing a helmet at all on the dangerous list.
That was a 200 helmet limited edition launch. You can still find them for resale, but the prices nearly tripled last we checked. Hopefully Alps makes another LE version similar in the future.
For riding on the street, this may not be a great helmet-and can possibly be a very poor choice depending on the motorcycle being ridden. Medium to tall windscreens are not friendly to this helmet in our tests-which, granted, took place amongst a group of just two, but provided enough evidence that one should consider the intended use of a helmet like this one carefully. Again IMHO. I live in part of Asia, its hot. Maybe the user from another world has different opinion. I'm just giving you my perspective. It is a race helmet. But most race helmet can be riden well on the street. This one doesn't (Shark Race-R Pro). Very specific on the track and track only. + Very snug + Very good ventilation + Good stability at high speed + Crystal clear visor + Excellent protection (5 star Sharp rating**) - Louder than average wind noise (nearly the same like KYT NX or NZ Race) - Very focused design can make it a poor performer outside of specific conditions
We think it goes head to head with the Pista but definitely inches out the Shark thanks to the adjustable interior, rotational impact protection and the higher number of shells. On the road it was just as awesome too. Rode in it for 2 hours each day commuting / traffic / twisty roads / highways and it was extremely versatile. One of the most stable and best ventilating helmets we've had come across our desks in years. - Pat (Product Tester)
@@newtype101 You should definitely give it a try because you might be surprised. Riding in this one for over 4 months now and it is my new commuter helmet because of how stable it is and ventilated. It is definitely a track-bred helmet, but 10x more usable on the street than we've seen from other MotoGP helmets including the Pista. And since you mentioned being in a hot Asian-area, this is one of the best ventilated full face helmets out there. The shield will also stay upright at highway speeds if you run sun glasses, which gives you another massive vent.
Nope, we should have more in a few weeks once Astars has more in the US. Everyone sold out of this one right away since it was so anticipated over the past few months. Wish there was more information provided about the visibility. Still waiting for AGV for their Sportmodular 2, Sportmodular IMO is the greatest street helmet ever made.
Most helmets now-a-days have more visibility than the human eye can utilize. But we'd agree with other commenters here - if you are waiting for the AGV modular helmets then this race-track full face helmet likely isn't in the same category.

Trying one of each on wouldn be a good start. The RPHA 1N has a slightly rounder (not by much, but a little) head shape that can cause some discomfort at the forehead. This might not be the case for you, since everyones head's are so unique, but definitely something we noticed when comparing the two. Otherwise, very comparable helmets both represented on the GP grid.

Both are track designed helmets, so street-comfort tends to take a hit because of that. But it will really be based on fit for the right one for you. We personally dig this new Astars lid, but the Pista is a cult-classic for road riders with the occasional track day if you have the extra coin.
Don’t get the pista. It’s the worst street helmet ever. No closable ventilation. The visor can’t be open or close intermediately, it has to be either open or fully closed. It won’t stay open while you’re riding. There are no speaker cut outs. And it has to be the loudest helmet ever. I sold mine. Been rocking the Shoei X-15 and I like this helmet 100x more than the pista. I’m gonna give this astars one a shot but know this will be better than the pista for sure!
Don't get the Pista unless you're chasing instagram clout, road noise is obnoxious even with ear plugs in, no holes for speakers(unless you want to cut some holes in it), no detents for riding, just open or close. The vent plugs you will lose within a couple weeks. I've owned the Pista GP RR and I just swapped to a Shoei x15, so much happier with it.
Arai and Shoei are only companies I trust now. Alpine needs to prove itself (and I do not trust any companies) - motorcycle helmets are all about when you hit the ground. Get what is proven.
Just out of curiosity, how does a brand go about proving itself to you? If its tenure on the market? That would make sense but just removes all new brands just for being new. Or is it proof from crashes by you / others? I've seen this one hit the deck just as many times as Shoei's & Arai's at the the track each MotoGP race for the past 2 years, so was curious. Or is it from reviews over time by other riders?

You can use your motorcycle key to move the detent, no? Seems like if you absolutely need to move the detent youre gonna have your moto key as well. No need to carry a small tool, although most people do anyways. I dont ride without a metric allen set minimum. I have learned my lesson on the road when my fuel tank line got disconnected and i was going from building to building to get a hex key to remove my seat and lift my tank.
Fiddly shield cleaning is why I gave up on my AGV.
Wait what!
Alpinestars helmet is made in China?WTF MAN!!
😮
@@H.D.B.23thats some real bee-s. Cant enter this market and expect to be taken serious with that sort of manufacturing choice. Oooof.
Yeah I have to get this helmet!!! I'm going to test out the X-15 and HJC before I make the move for Alpinestars.
Just got ours and we love it!
what about the wind noise and fitment? thanks
It's awesome, but can't afford it
Revzilla, do you have a comment on the fact that these are made in China? This is a premium helmet that’s going up against big brands like Shoei or AGV which are handmade in Japan and Italy. Alpinestars seems like they really cheaped out here.
Wow dude. Thats a HUGE misstep for Alpinestars. Any interest I had is now totally gone.
Fyi, the solid colors will not include the race wing. Wish they'd give you the option to purchase one with pre-orders.
How is road noise vs the Shoei X15?
I can confidently say this is schuberth quiet.
If I were to buy one, I'd wait until the next evolution of this helmet
I never could get the cheek pads back in. Shot the helmet up with 12 gauge slugs.
Does the long spoiler come on the white one too ?
I currently ride a Harley (22 Lowrider S) and I wear a Shoei RF1400. Wonder how this helmet would function for a rider who is mostly in an upright position
Great review! It would be cool if you could add time stamps (chapters/sections) in the description - that would really help when comparing other helmet reviews of yours.
How would this be on a naked sitting up vs on a sport bike leaned over? Also, how does it compare to a top tier Arai?
We tested it on our Street Triple Rx for about 4 months before we could post about it, and it was great. An hour each way in traffic / highway / twisty roads and it was great, and even better at higher track speeds. Adjusting the A-head system helps you make it more comfortable for sport bikes and then naked bikes giving it a ton of versatility. Unsure if our product tester Pat will give the sample back he liked it so much ha!
Thank you! Will definitely check it out.
I see we own the same bike, I am curious about this too.
@@motorcycle-man Great bike! quick, fast, and handles very good on the twisties!

I have one and very happy with it especially the wide view , personally I did not like how fiddly it is to re install the liner my only dislike .
Does it have slots for the Cardo or do you have to like mess around and find a spot?
I thought these solid colors only came with one spoiler in the box? Can you confirm they come with both the race spoiler and street spoiler?
Confirmed, Astars was back and forth on including it when we shot the video, they opted on including it with the graphics only (since those are color-matching spoilers) and will have the spoilers separate along with the carry bag.
Shoei and arai are the best helmets made!
Cool to see something new on the market but it will never really be replacing the Pista GP RR for me.
Cool helmet, eventually I might get one, but I still love my Bell RacePro. I don’t need it right away
I don’t know why it took them this long to make a helmet.
If astars racers keep putting it above the shoei / Arai / agvs on the MotoGP championships podiums, it might start proving itself. 2nd place last year
Great Scott! What the heck happened to Spurge!
I'll stay with Shoeis' X-Series:)

AGV Pista GP or Alpinestars? And why?

The Pista is the far superior helmet. Moto GP is the main explanation
Looking sweet in carbon.
Thanks so much for this Video, i love this helmet. a quick Question, can the Parts outside the helmet easy removed to paint them? ventilation, plastic parts and this stuff? Spoiler is removable for sure.
Wonder if they will make one fore the street that not so radically shaped
Sad it did'nt launch with the red that was shown at the start . But that weight though it's kind of heavy FOR A CARBON helmet
Lots of info/specs on the Alpinestars website.
Specs don't tell me much.
This helmet leaks and is squeaky as hell. Still pretty sick...I still like it
Already ordered, will it take the 45mm Cardo speakers? I know my Shoei X15 will not.
Does the padding loosen up after wearing for a while? I have a L wondering if I need to change to and XL
Most helmet interior liners will break in about 10-15% with us. A good fitting helmet should be tight out of the box so that it still fits you when the liners break in from the sweat / etc with usage. A loose fitting helmet is up there with not wearing a helmet at all on the dangerous list.
with that money, might as well get an Arai

Does it flow more air than the HJC RPHA11? Is the helmet slipping through the air better than an HJC RPHA11?
It's what I currently use
And now there is an RPHA12! The 11's are discontinued.
Nice helmet, though all are sold out. My next helmet is the Arai RX-7V pedrosa spirit.
Its much better than a pista gp r but is it better than a shark race r pro ? love the inner liners on this.
+ Very snug
+ Very good ventilation
+ Good stability at high speed
+ Crystal clear visor
+ Excellent protection (5 star Sharp rating**)
- Louder than average wind noise (nearly the same like KYT NX or NZ Race)
- Very focused design can make it a poor performer outside of specific conditions
@@newtype101are you referring to the alpine helmet or shark?

I'm torn between this or a AGV Pista GP RR. Sport bike-80% street use and 20% track days.
