I love me some softie tanks. This is on another level! Thank you Tobi for showing us this beautiful tank. I can’t wait to finish setting mine up. And now thx to you showing this tank, I think it’ll be an all softie tank. Thank you again.
Incredible - love the Fire Coral - but Millepora is not a coral - it's a colony of hydras I think. Really need to get one of those fiji pink stylos and a Leng Sy cap. The clams - the pipefish - the tube anenome... so many great animals in this tank. I'd really LOVE to know more about keeping tube anenomes particularly if they eat fish and what fish to avoid.
Hi I love ur videos but I wish you could somehow make them a bit longer, especially that some are like 5 or 4 mins long, not complaining, just cant get enough of those amazing reef shots haha
I try to follow the “neytrop” channel, but youtube dont make substitles in english, just in german I think, I dont know why, thanks for doing content in english in this channel, I really aprecciate it, but I cant follow in the other one, because I dont understand
I didn’t quarantine my corals early on in my reefing career, biggest mistake you’ll ever make, you may get lucky but one day you’ll introduce something into your tank without dipping or quarantining, coral pest, white spot, and you will learn your lesson, your playing Russian roulette, such a gorgeous tank, don’t risk it, dip and quarantine all fish and corals
I ‘think’ I’m suffering with something exactly like you’re saying with my tank now. LPS and SPS just start to slowly fade away and over time die. I’m thinking something bacterial and I’ve literally tried everything. I just used cipro over ten days so will see if that stops anything dying. Fingers crossed but not hopeful.
@@happychappy27 what is your water change schedule, what have you been using with regards to filtration and phosphate control? Are you over using carbon or GFO (granular ferrous oxide) rowaphos?
How are you obtaining your water test results, my reefing success changed dramatically when I started using Hanna digital checkers, more so for phosphorus, I use the the Phosphorus ULR checker as you can’t get the fine test results for phosphate that you need, phosphate needs to be kept in a specific range and fluctuations can play havoc with corals and algae, having a good accurate method of phosphate control that one that does not strip trace elements is important, there is a real trend recently where by people are opting to not perform water changes I think creates an issue of lack of trace elements, and fir LPS SPD trace elements are really important, it’s something that cannot be completely substituted with supplements, as you don’t know what rate each element is being used at, so the best policy is to change water once a week up to 10-20% that keeps the ratio and elements topped up
@@jimelliott33 my usual schedule for WC is 15% every 10-14 days. This always seemed to work well and I had a scrubber running along side a reactor with rowaphos which all seemed good. My last tank had a reactor running rowa 24/7 too and it was a very successful mixed reef. This tank is just going through a terrible spell and I run rowa constantly in the reactor. The scrubber is offline as I had a nasty algae break out and in the end ran chemiclean. This killed the algae but also took my scrubber out killing all the algae in there. I’m babbling on here but just trying to explain any changes over the recent months/year. My sps guy told me to do a tank reset (changed 100% volume over a month) and this is where I’m now currently at after the cipro too. I’m just waiting now to see if there’s any more stn or LPS dying away. It’s early days but I can’t really see any but I know it will be a slow process if things stabilise and head in the right direction. I never knew you could overuse rowa. I need to get the scrubber back online as without it phos is one thing I struggle to keep stable.
@@happychappy27 running a reactor 24/7 with rowa in any tank in my mind would be overkill, after my first tank contracted white spot and I was forced into a situation of being back to school, by this I mean, and it was one of the best things to happen to me to expand my knowledge and understanding, so I already had amassed a large coral collection in that tank over 8 months, the entire tank needed stripping down to irradiate white spot, the corals were moved to a small 80 litres coral tank in my garage along with where my fish quarantine tanks were housed, having the coral in a dedicated coral tank enabled me to really hone in on water parameters that worked for what was a mixed reef, what I began to realise was absolute gold, starting with lighting, I began to acclimate the corals on an AI prime initially set at around 30% on all blue and purple channels and around 6% on whites, far far lower than I had used in the main tank, the corals after a week appeared happy even at such low light, even now they sit at 40% purples and blues and 10% white, and don’t appear to be calling for more light, having no really bio load except the coral food I dose nitrate to the 5-10 range and keep my phosphates at 0.04-0.06, I experimented with methods of phosphate reduction, one table spoon in a filter bag running in a filter pump for an hour would zero the phosphate out to nothing, this is no good, too much of a drop and too quick, I managed to test run the row on a bag for 5 mins and it lowered the phosphate from 0.06 to 0.035, rowa it’s very effective but detrimental if over used, what you need to work out is a timed period a day to run the reactor but to know this you need to know how much your phosphates rise in a day with your regular feeding, unless you have a hanna Phosphorous ULR checker you won’t be able to test accurately enough however, I’d really limit the use of rowa though it can very much do more harm than good, also trace elements are very important and these come with water changes, I also highly recommend the use of Tropic Marin All for reef to maintain trace elements and alkalinity, what are you using to maintain KH?
I keep coming back to this video. It’s has to be my favourite tank, it’s incredible!
Glad to hear that and yes the tank is truly amazing :)
Incredible tank. The inclusion of Macro algae, filter feeding clams and Mangroves is so very excellent for nutrient control and absorption.
