I agree with Greg. I was i the Navy for 10 years. The Navy got me into Aviation , if UA-cam had been around back then (1976-1986) I would've loved to show people what aviation maintenance was like. I retired in 2021 after spending my working lije fixing/modifying a/c and inspecting maufactured part. I truly enjoy your vids.

Chief, you know I was in a similar line of work as you, except that I was Ships Service Manager on a large British cruise ship, (clue: named the same as a Queen) I “swallowed the anchor “ and retired from the sea and emigrated to the United States, where my wife and son, by this time are from. It was hard, very, hard. But, eventually got my head around it and became a fairly well known Chief Engineer of hotels, in this area , and, with the spare time that I had I volunteered with the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and attained highest rank with them. I then got hit by serious illness which meant had to leave both jobs. I have tried to “keep up “ with both jobs with people like you !! I love watching your videos on here. You show ALL sides of a ship, far more than shown in most vlogs, which, seriously, makes it as good as it is. One person who watches an American vlog, told me “ never watch those foreign people, I can’t understand them ! I introduced her to your vlog and she admitted she could easily understand, not only you, but all the crew you spoke to , see a lazy,racist, country is full of them!. So please, take a break, take us on a fishing trip and let us go on a fishing trip with you while your wife takes the kids to the beach. Then you come back and cook the fish and drink some beer. You must know the name of the fish though ! Seriously, teak a break if you need/ want it just please come back when YOU are ready, Sincerely, Rod.
Keep growing those chickens for those on deck barbecues, self sustaining business. Couple of cows on the aft mooring deck (moor sheltered easier cleaning, chickens in coops keep the smells away from the cabins that you will sell at a “reasonable rate” Rate o Pay. Captain/General Manager 30%. , Hotel Manager/ Staff Captain 60%. , Office Manager 10%. Let me know what you think about the wages buy some bunk beds and wardrobes, find crew who are willing to sell their cabins then we stand n the dock and swim, sell, and sell. Be self paying within 6 months. Especially to those people with kids ! Working tours are double !!

Chief, I'm a mechanical engineer, but my experience is in stationary machines far from the sea, so, I thank you for showing how stuff is offshore and allow every gearhead here to tindulge in the secret world of huge maritime nuts bolts and calipers! I particularly enjoy the disassembly, maintenance and show and tell of the stuff in the boat, we never get to see those big oil separators and a guy walking inside a piston housing elsewhere!
Appreciate the update chief. I'm a 31yo game designer (level designer specifically) and came across your channel while looking up the engine bay of cargo ships for a personal project of mine. Honestly I'd say you've gone above and beyond with showing us the fascinating life of a sailor, and the hard work it takes to keep the machines running (both the literal machines on the ships and the figurative machine of maritime logistics). Your documentary-quality production is greatly appreciated, though I wouldn't mind a few more shorts from time to time during the editing phases 😄

I have had a warm space in my heart for the Philippines since living there as a child 1953-55, and your videos, in addition to their maritime engineering, management, travelog, and philosophy(!) content, always bring me back to those times. I like your channel Chief and enjoy the content. I am now 69 years old and joined a British shipping company as an engineer cadet way back in 1971. I spent my whole working career as a ship's engineer, from cadet through to Chief, then onboard offshore drilling rigs and then in technical management in offices around the world. So, I remember joining my first ship at No.4 Berth, Victoria Docks, London and thinking to myself that the Ch/Eng seemed to know absolutely everything about everything. Also that I could never, possibly, ever know as much as he did!!! Well, after years of working with very good senior engineers and lots of experience I gradually realised that I was now the "oracle" onboard and that I had actually learned a lot more than I had realised.

I’m in the same mind thought myself Chief. I’m a senior engineer in the Canadian navy doing it for 19 years now. As I just bout more property where I’m posted and I don’t have plans to be in the navy past 50, I’m starting on my plan for income after the navy. I always have a love for the sea as my career in the engine room has taken me around the world and back. Best of luck my friend!

Good to see this update Chief. I'm an old 80-90s US Navy sailor and I really enjoy your videos. I miss being at sea, and I've always been curious about merchant mariners ever since then. During the first Persian Gulf war and the UN sanctions I was on my ship's boarding party. I'm a 6'2" 220lb Filipino American who only speaks English, and was raised in rural Pennsylvania, so finding so many Filipino mariners on EVERY ship we boarded I was amazed and proud to see it. I was born in Davao, but where I grew up there was nobody else like me, lol, and unfortunately for me my lack of tagalog worked against me since what could've been an unwelcome nuisance for them turned into a laugh (for them) as they tried to get me to lighten up when I supposed to be armed and scary. Interesting times to be off the Red Sea and the Gulf. I did lighten up, and I'm glad I did. We had to search every vessel from stem to stern so I got to see a little of how you guys lived. Sometimes I do wish I'd gone merchant marine, which is the pinoy blood, but I'm back in Pennsylvania so your videos are much appreciated. Best wishes. Mabuhay!

Good to see you back, Chief! I didn't comment on your films often, but I saw (nearly) all of them. What I appreciate of this episode is, that you show that every person is vulnerable at times. Most people hide that and just suffer or make others suffer. You just took your time and rightly so. It seems that you took your own life back into your own hands. Chief, I get the need to take a break and refresh. In teaching, it's called summer break, and you need the downtime to refresh and recalibrate your thinking so you can go back to it with the same love and passion for what you do when you started. \ BTW, my physics students, most of whom plan to be come various types of engineers, love seeing your videos and how they demonstrate the content I teach. One of my students even attended USMMA, King's Point and became a marine engineer!
I am american, and I have always been curious about the Philippines since we used to explicitly control the phillippines about 100 years ago. Please double check the subtitles in your philpino podcast because I will watch every episode. I have always been curious about how the cities developed and sometimes out in the middle of the islands, it can be pretty lawless and crazy, and just a bunch of rice farmers.

Good to see that you are still around. I'm a on site mechanic where I work and I know all to well the trouble of burnout from trying to be creative, as I took basically 9 months off from a book I was writing to focus on day to day issues. I did finish the book though. I would caution from making UA-cam a major part of your retirement plans but at least you have been smart enough to have other backups unlike so many others I have seen over the years. This platform simply is too volatile these days to be a stable "job" as it takes only a algorithm shift to lead to channel death or demonetization. I agree with Greg. I was i the Navy for 10 years. The Navy got me into Aviation , if UA-cam had been around back then (1976-1986) I would've loved to show people what aviation maintenance was like. I retired in 2021 after spending my working lije fixing/modifying a/c and inspecting maufactured part. I truly enjoy your vids.

Same here...my dad is Polish but he served in the Norwiegn Merchant Marine after WW2. USN to Merchant Marine has actually gotten much easier now.

Chief, you know I was in a similar line of work as you, except that I was Ships Service Manager on a large British cruise ship, (clue: named the same as a Queen) I “swallowed the anchor “ and retired from the sea and emigrated to the United States, where my wife and son, by this time are from. It was hard, very, hard. But, eventually got my head around it and became a fairly well known Chief Engineer of hotels, in this area , and, with the spare time that I had I volunteered with the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and attained highest rank with them.
I then got hit by serious illness which meant had to leave both jobs. I have tried to “keep up “ with both jobs with people like you !!
I love watching your videos on here. You show ALL sides of a ship, far more than shown in most vlogs, which, seriously, makes it as good as it is.
One person who watches an American vlog, told me “ never watch those foreign people, I can’t understand them ! I introduced her to your vlog and she admitted she could easily understand, not only you, but all the crew you spoke to , see a lazy,racist, country is full of them!.
So please, take a break, take us on a fishing trip and let us go on a fishing trip with you while your wife takes the kids to the beach.
Then you come back and cook the fish and drink some beer.
You must know the name of the fish though !

Keep growing those chickens for those on deck barbecues, self sustaining business. Couple of cows on the aft mooring deck (moor sheltered easier cleaning, chickens in coops keep the smells away from the cabins that you will sell at a “reasonable rate”

I'm a just retired machinist from the energy and aero space industry. Been doing it for 45 Years. With that being said, you know I love mechanical apparatus. Always enjoy your vids. Chief, I'm a mechanical engineer, but my experience is in stationary machines far from the sea, so, I thank you for showing how stuff is offshore and allow every gearhead here to tindulge in the secret world of huge maritime nuts bolts and calipers! I particularly enjoy the disassembly, maintenance and show and tell of the stuff in the boat, we never get to see those big oil separators and a guy walking inside a piston housing elsewhere!

Appreciate the update chief. I'm a 31yo game designer (level designer specifically) and came across your channel while looking up the engine bay of cargo ships for a personal project of mine. Honestly I'd say you've gone above and beyond with showing us the fascinating life of a sailor, and the hard work it takes to keep the machines running (both the literal machines on the ships and the figurative machine of maritime logistics). Your documentary-quality production is greatly appreciated, though I wouldn't mind a few more shorts from time to time during the editing phases 😄

I have had a warm space in my heart for the Philippines since living there as a child 1953-55, and your videos, in addition to their maritime engineering, management, travelog, and philosophy(!) content, always bring me back to those times. I remember Manila harbor being full of sunken ships!

I like your channel Chief and enjoy the content. I am now 69 years old and joined a British shipping company as an engineer cadet way back in 1971. I spent my whole working career as a ship's engineer, from cadet through to Chief, then onboard offshore drilling rigs and then in technical management in offices around the world. So, I remember joining my first ship at No.4 Berth, Victoria Docks, London and thinking to myself that the Ch/Eng seemed to know absolutely everything about everything. Also that I could never, possibly, ever know as much as he did!!! Well, after years of working with very good senior engineers and lots of experience I gradually realised that I was now the "oracle" onboard and that I had actually learned a lot more than I had realised.

I’m in the same mind thought myself Chief. I’m a senior engineer in the Canadian navy doing it for 19 years now. As I just bout more property where I’m posted and I don’t have plans to be in the navy past 50, I’m starting on my plan for income after the navy. Good to see this update Chief. I'm an old 80-90s US Navy sailor and I really enjoy your videos. I miss being at sea, and I've always been curious about merchant mariners ever since then. During the first Persian Gulf war and the UN sanctions I was on my ship's boarding party. I'm a 6'2" 220lb Filipino American who only speaks English, and was raised in rural Pennsylvania, so finding so many Filipino mariners on EVERY ship we boarded I was amazed and proud to see it. I was born in Davao, but where I grew up there was nobody else like me, lol, and unfortunately for me my lack of tagalog worked against me since what could've been an unwelcome nuisance for them turned into a laugh (for them) as they tried to get me to lighten up when I supposed to be armed and scary. Interesting times to be off the Red Sea and the Gulf. I did lighten up, and I'm glad I did. We had to search every vessel from stem to stern so I got to see a little of how you guys lived. Sometimes I do wish I'd gone merchant marine, which is the pinoy blood, but I'm back in Pennsylvania so your videos are much appreciated. Best wishes. Mabuhay!

This year is my last year of academics before heading to my BT and eventually doing my shipboard training, which is going to my start of my seafaring career. Good to see you back, Chief! I didn't comment on your films often, but I saw (nearly) all of them. What I appreciate of this episode is, that you show that every person is vulnerable at times. Most people hide that and just suffer or make others suffer. You just took your time and rightly so. It seems that you took your own life back into your own hands. Must have been a painfull proces in the beginning. But you just did it, for which I respect you deeply.

Chief Makoi, Great to hear you received such accolades over all your educational content! My father was a Merchant Marine on all the U.S. Great lakes. He became an engineer also! (In the 40's & 50's) on coal fired steam engine ore boats. Glad to have more maritime content from you, Thanks 🙏🚢
Chief, I get the need to take a break and refresh. In teaching, it's called summer break, and you need the downtime to refresh and recalibrate your thinking so you can go back to it with the same love and passion for what you do when you started.

BTW, my physics students, most of whom plan to be come various types of engineers, love seeing your videos and how they demonstrate the content I teach. One of my students even attended USMMA, King's Point and became a marine engineer!
I am american, and I have always been curious about the Philippines since we used to explicitly control the phillippines about 100 years ago. Please double check the subtitles in your philpino podcast because I will watch every episode. I have always been curious about how the cities developed and sometimes out in the middle of the islands, it can be pretty lawless and crazy, and just a bunch of rice farmers.
You gave me a good idea with the subtitles. Actually UA-cam has a new function for Voice-overs now so I can probably make an audio file in English.

And I’ve already been spending more and more time back in Pinas… that has been truly gratifying. Helping the younger generations to succeed will (hopefully) be my legacy.

Good to see that you are still around. I'm a on site mechanic where I work and I know all to well the trouble of burnout from trying to be creative, as I took basically 9 months off from a book I was writing to focus on day to day issues. I did finish the book though.
I would caution from making UA-cam a major part of your retirement plans but at least you have been smart enough to have other backups unlike so many others I have seen over the years. This platform simply is too volatile these days to be a stable "job" as it takes only a algorithm shift to lead to channel death or demonetization.
