Still impressing ppl 14 years later bud! I think those of us who can’t play a note are jealous that you can play and get to play this song. Great job!!!!!
All the hours you spent practicing guitar has paid off, you are AWESOME!!! Thank you for taking the time to show us folks, how we too can play this song, if we pay attention to your instruction and practice, practice, Practice! May God continue to bless you friend, As I lift my glass....SALUTE!!!
That is just a straight up feat. That was 15 years ago. A part of me hopes that he's living like a legend abroad these days, spreading classic southern rock in France, or something. And definitely not working at Walmart, or something.
Yea pretty fantastic work there man. I've been playing a long time and this one has always hung over my head. Just a casual player but there is sure a lot of great stuff to learn in this one song. Sam I hate to ask but is there anyway to break this apart and teach a lesson on it? I'd sure love to see how he does the modal moves and pedal tones. Ultimately... you sir are the man! For those about to rock.... we salute you.
Same here. I've had to come back to this vid a few times as my skills have grown slower than peyote buttons. At first I couldn't even grasp what was happening with the rhythm fills. Every few years I'll add something else to the tool bag and watch this again to get another step closer. Pretty crazy it's been 10 years and this is still the only real cover of this on UA-cam. Trying to put together a version as one guy playing the best parts of several rock legends is no easy task for us weekend warriors! lol
This guy has the most typical 07-08 white guy apparel on lol! Great playing love it! Saw them live in Cincinnati about a month ago and it was incredible as ever!! Love and hate that people just know this song from rock band!! Southern rock will never die!
Yes, we salute you! I have never seen anyone try to attempt playing the 2 distinct styles that make up the solos in this song. You got the whole country gentleman double-stop thing in the first solo and the crazy rattlesnake twang especially at the end. Still blown away from seeing it. Dude! g
I like to imagine that he found an old guitar in his office's supply closet, picked it up after decades of not playing and suddenly started jamming out as the memories came back to him. That would be awesome.
I've seen many of your videos now because, ostensibly, our tastes in music are the same. I envy your talent. I might, that is, might, be able to break down the song but I could never play it as smoothly and error free as you do. I stumbled into That Smell, then Freeborn Man, and now this. Keep up the nice work.
In my old days some of the bands I would go see at bars would play this song I was thinking about learning the song but after watching you play it I dont know if Im young enough to learn it lol
I have this exact same model and color Mexican strat. Pretty wild hearing the same tone from your video. Like hearing an old friend. Thanks for sharing and thanks for shredding.
Sweet Jesus that was incredible. Very well played, plenty of emotion and feeling in how it was done. If I was wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you sir :)
holy crap i can barely get through this song on rockband and here you're playing it like you made the freaking song you are truly an angel from heaven sent here to rock
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Green Grass and High Tides was the best Southern Rock song ever, and I watched The Outlaws play it more than a few times. I could of sworn it was them playing when I listened to you. I hope to god your still playing the guitar!
Dude - that was fantastic! I had the honor of seeing Hughie 2x front row in '05 and '07, and this song has always been what I considered - THE greatest guitar song of all time. It just flows so sweetly from beginning to end. You do this song major justice! Thanks for posting.
great job. i rly like this. I had a teacher once that told me "playing by ear is a crutch and you should be able to read music all the time" but I think playing by ear is a gift.
I have been covering Henry Paul material since the 70s including "Song in The Breeze", "Green Grass", "Grey Ghost" and "So Long" and you did a GREAT job! Keep up the good work...
Except that aint Henry Paul Material That's all Huey and Billy R.I.P., He was just vagely in the background..He tries to claim its his though .Have you heard him try to sing some of these originals...PITIFULL!!!
You know what us redneck southern rockers in Jacksonville say ? Who the funk is Henry Paul ? We know Hughie , we know Billy. But Henry , oh yea I think I remember him. That Yankee guy Hughie kicked out. Yea, yea that Blackbird guy. We don't talk bout that guy. Like we don't talk bout Bobby Hatchet. Remember that when your guzzling Wild Turkey with the redneck Boyz in Freakville. You don't want one of em knock your teeth out ! ha ha ha
I'm 54 and this has been my favorite song ever. Didn't think anyone could do it right but you rock....you are by far the best I have ever seen. Get out there and show your stuff, please!!!
Puta madre, en rockband solo llegaba a 60% en expert, en guitara real solo a 1m pero siempre quise sacarla completa que recuerdos xD, u're fuckin awesome dude
WOW!!! Fantastic job! You must have put a lot of time and effort in on this one. But now you have something to be proud of. I've always loved this song. It has special meaning for me. Long live the memory of Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones! Long live The Outlaws!
I appreciate that Sam does a great version of this classic guitar battle song but you must remember this video had the advantage of being advertised under [Graybeard' 1952] promo of The Outlaws, Green Grass And High Tide seen to the right for many years along with another video. Graybeard has now almost 7 million views. so as you can see he got a lot of exposure for people interested in this song. Google bought out You Tube and eventually took down Sam's (Augie's) cover but by then he had a running start which snowballed on it's own. As well I'm glad he had that opportunity but the count would be no where near 300,000 views had this not happened. Just saying!
+Dan Newson So what? It could have only 1 view and that wouldn't diminish the fantastic job he did here in any way shape or form. But it was good of you to add your thinly veiled negativity. Just saying!
Who is racing? I wasn't aware of any competition. All I know is that kid kicked some ass on a song that I have been trying to master for over 30 years. I've got nothing on the kid, but being that I am not very competitive, I couldn't give a shit. So that leaves me free to just enjoy it.
Friend of mine just told me about your vids. I'm blown away man! You are unreal! I'm an oldie and have seen The Outlaws live two times back in the day and you do them justice for sure! All the best!
GG&HT has been one of my fav's since it came out. I've played only a mediocre rendition years ago Love this song & wonderful to see some one actually play it amazingly. Excellent! (p.s. my 1st view this morning, 3:17 A.M. May 5th, 2021) Then I noticed shared "Sep 29, 2008" & thinking "What the...?" Great cover Sam.
augiedog6 That was some of the best playing I have ever seen in the past 48 years. Good Job. It brings me back in time. just keep on playing son don't let your dream slip a way.
As much as I love a Gibson guitar....DAMN.....Nothing sounds like a FENDER Stratocaster.....Rock On baby...!!!! I've watched your video several times....I keep coming back....Peace brother
Excellent job there youngster, I'm with the guy wishing you'd break it down. a lot of us aren't real naturals at this and it's a struggle, a labor of love so to speak. whats helping me so far is playing it at half speed and PAYING ATTENTION! so far it's coming easier than other things I'm trying to do. thanks and keep it up and don't sweat the shirt, everyone's watching the fingers!
Best cover of my all time favorite song I have ever heard. I saw them play this in ‘76 when they backed up Lynyrd Skynyrd. Been my fav song ever since. Wonderful cover. Thank you !!!
big time, LARGE props young man. Not only are you a helluva guitar player, but your song selection is wise beyond your years. ain't nothing being put out now that has the guts that some of these songs you are playing have. well done.
Great Job! You honor both the late Billy and the late Huey, definitely considering your youthful age! The very few mistakes you made are technical and are barely noticeable, your content is very correct! You play it better than I do, and I've seen numerous guitarists play this song so terribly wrong and actually get paid for it! This is by no means an easy song to learn or play! I can tell you are a fine guitarist, and I hope you have band prospects!
Great Strat Tone man! Very Cool! Ya just never see anyone play something like "The Outlaws"! I like this very much... I went harder rock as I landed on my style... BUT I will always love jammin` to the Outlaws!.. GREAT JOB!!
Nice job man. I've always loved that song. Seen the Outlaws at least a dozen times. You've inspired me to pull out my old Gibson Explorer I haven't played in years and try to figure out the song from watching you play it. I know I spent countless hours trying to learn the whole thing by ear 30 or so years ago.
Very few people have attempted to cover this entire song and so far this is the best I've seen/heard. Excellent job, I found this song on Rock Band and was impressed by the guitar.
Very seldom do I comment on a video but your playing is worth it. Very well done! Green garss and high tides is one of the best "rock it out" songs ever and you nailed it.
dude... you are seriously insane. That has to be the best cover of that song i have ever seen! Hope you realise your skill level cause i've been playing for a few years now, and i understand the guitar to it's capabilities and you pushed the margine further 4 that. Ace!
Fantastic......wish you could slow the whole thing down next and teach me this thing step by step....You have got this thing down!!!! Great job...keep playing
i watched this again all the way through. I think my head just exploded watching.... AMAZING! You're only 18? Keep this up and there will be no end to how far this talent will take you!!!
God how I miss when my dad would play this for me on his guitar. RIP dad I love you. I'll see you again one day and you can play for me then......
RIP

14 years later and this dude is still not getting the recongnition he deserved for putting his time into this amazing cover?
Hell man they only recently even made a tutorial for this song.
Certified UA-cam classic.
It says 15 years ago, but stuff like this is timeless! Well done!
thanks a lot man. playin since i was 12 so about 6 years. never really taken lessons or anything though.
Still impressing ppl 14 years later bud! I think those of us who can’t play a note are jealous that you can play and get to play this song. Great job!!!!!
Loved how he nailed that Billy Jones' solo. Hughies, too.
How i the FUCK could there be ANY thumbs down on this.....AWESOME JOB!!
Haters are gonna hate ;)
I mean, there's a bit too much distortion, but thats 100% excusable
That was my first thought when I looked down at the count.
Because it's actually not that good of a cover.
I don't even think he missed one note.
Dude. Nailed the whole tune in one take. Unreal.
All the hours you spent practicing guitar has paid off, you are AWESOME!!!

My God! 3 years later and I still haven't found anything better than this.
I played this song back in 1989 , for my dad's birthday party...this song is so old...brings back memories...
You killed it man. I love this song.
That is just a straight up feat. That was 15 years ago. A part of me hopes that he's living like a legend abroad these days, spreading classic southern rock in France, or something. And definitely not working at Walmart, or something.

Yeah that would really be awesome. Especially since he's now 18.
