It’s corporate disinformation that Disney’s mistake was making too much content. Their mistake was making something that consumers don’t want to see. If they made a bunch of films that people loved - that would be called brilliance.

They think everybody pays attention to the culture wars, when it's basically the fringe left and right and the bots stirring the pot.

Are you guys oblivious to how bad Marvel and Star Wars has done lately? Most of the last couple of years, they've lost hundreds of millions on each film...sadly. Disney is pushing a narrative or message, instead of developing an interesting story and character development.

Why is paramount plus listed twice on the first chart? I'm guessing the little smidge is the correct bar, but what is the big blue bar at the bottom? TikTok or something?

Josh made a great point that pro boxing really declined once it departed from free TV viewing. I think MMA had something to do with boxing's impoverishment as well. Great interview. Thanks Compound.

Like the combo of Josh and Batnick with a really deep subject matter expert into a well followed space like streaming. This hits that mark (with THE best analyst on streaming I've ever heard, and I listen to CNBC and podcasts all day). Josh is smiling like he knows The Compound got the best mind and insight on the streaming space--- before CNBC, Bloomberg, WSJ, FT, Yahoo Finance, etc.... Bring her back when there is (or isn't) a big deal or event in streaming (i.e., if Paramount deal breaks apart or gets done).

0:07 Can I just say as a complete layman when it comes to markets, financ-y things, and most of what Josh, Mike, and Ben (and friends) talk about, goes a bit over my head. But when I hear the intro drop (like this one), I am in and ready to go.
Needless to say I come for the bangers and stay for the charts.

I feel you should go out into the world and see who really appreciates AI generated content. I happen to be in anime retailer and, I really can’t show any AI images to my customers because I get angry because they don’t like AI that “steals the work of actual artists. To certain segments of the world, it will be something we have to hide rather than show off and say, look how cool I am, I’m showing you an AI generated landscape or something.

What do they mean by "Marvel Studios"? After Endgame, MCU has been a source of losses in term of revenue and brand vallue.

Zazlav's looking for someone to acquire them. The bundle partnerships basically provides the others with info as to whether WBD adds value to THEIR customers. If it does enough, it could make sense for whoever that is to acquire WBD.

Another issue is, and you should get Duncan involved in this discussion, how all the streaming services started finding anime because anime is very cheap, literally $1 million or so for 12 or 13 episode series which is way, way less than anything else. However, Netflix has become “the place where anime goes to die“ in the industry, especially when they put certain popular titles in the “Netflix jail,“ which means, they delay a title for three months because they want to prepare the English and other language dumb tracks. meanwhile, every fan worth his salt has forgotten about the show and Chris is the name of Netflix (or Amazon, or however) for screwing up a wonderful anime they loved, and ensuring that fans around the world would never learn about it, because all of the buzz would have dissipated by the time I reach them. It got a little bit better over the past 1 to 2 years, but in general the “binge model” is absolutely cancer when it comes to anime fans, because it guarantees that the show will die before it’s even Begun to live, and will therefore be noticed by zero fans.

The Mandalorian was Disney’s last big hit. Streaming hit. Along with Wandavision. Tons of eyeballs for those. Problem is they don’t have as much content as Netflix. I use Disney more now with both Hulu and Disney content on both.

Now we need the same breakdown of tictoc, snap and meta and the possibility of tictoc being divested. What would the new use case be for existing social media if tictoc because something other than what it is today?

    Extremely bullish Alphabet.
Beyond all the arguments you put forward on why YT is worth more than Netflix - could you elaborate on the technology behind YT? I think it’s underestimated how much compute Alphabet has build out to accommodate those millions of hours uploaded every day.
Netflix has fully outsourced that part to AWS which is another leg up for UA-cam IMO
