    Siege of Savannah
    Episode 26
The siege of Savannah was a combined American and French attempt to retake take the city of Savannah from the British on Oct 9th 1779. Almost a full year earlier, the British would take savannah with minimal resistance. The battle that would ensue in October of 1779, would be one of the bloodiest battles during the American Revolution. During the attack, Polish nobleman Casimir Pulaski, leading the combined cavalry forces on the American side, was mortally wounded by grapeshot. With the failure of the joint attack, the siege was abandoned, and the British remained in control of Savannah until July 1782, near the end of the war. Also, more than 500 recruits from Saint-Domingue (the French colony which later became Haiti) fought gallantly on the side of the Americans.
