I have one brown left, and she has been by far the best layer that I have ever had! But yes, she’s nervous around humans & don’t get to close or she absolutely loses herself in a panic. She’s so beautiful! Fantastic layer 👍🏻
you made great move by choosing brown leghorn instead of white if the info i found is correct
info i found says that brown leghorns lays at least 50 eggs less but their eggs are amazing quality
i always prefer quality than quantity
brown leghorn is on my way, cant wait to raise some hens from this breed to see how good their eggs are :)
Thanks for sharing! I just got my brown leghorns two weeks ago and already they are some of my favorite chicks. I am concerned they will not do well with my larger breeds so I'm planning a second coop-run area for them. I was noticing your accent. You sound a bit like my friend from Athens, OH...but a bit more southern like Parkersberg, WV. Curious to know where you grew up
Leghorns will do fine with your larger breeds. I grew up in Texas, but never developed its drawl lol.

Edit: this is my favorite breed of chicken, they are so friendly, and there body makes it easy for baby chicks to stay warm in.

I like unfriendly chickens. Lol.
We got eight brown leghorn chickens on accident. Was supposed to get 8 rhode island reds. Brown leghorn chickens are very good egg layers, but they are also VERY mean to one another, they constantly peck each other; and after they started molting they never seem to grow feathers back. They are also very shy. I still like my brown leghorn chickens, but I would rather have others.
They are a pretty bird, almost have a jungle fowl type look to them kind of.

What should be a rooster original breed for to get original leghorn chickens. The same leghorn breed rooster or some other?
I like to breed pure bred chickens, so I would keep a leghorn rooster. However, a Rhode-Island red, Australorp, or barred rock rooster would make good crosses.

Given how flighty they are, would you consider them to be good at avoiding predators?
Yes! Mine are free range and I’ve seen a fox run off with my rooster many times and he always comes back! There aren’t many chickens that can do that! They are definitely fighters! But they don’t make good pets though
I have 2 rose comb chicks. I plan on free range if I can. Do they have an issue of hiding egg clutches in the woods they might forage in ?
Im not sure, if you train them to lay in the nest boxes before you let them free range, they shouldn't lay in the woods.

Why are the Leghorns in your video white-legged? This breed is yellow skinned and yellow legged.

White Leghorns breed true. Breeding good quality white leghorns will give you quality white leghorns. Unless you are inbreeding them.

Approximately 5430 grams per month.
nice. The leghorn color just look like the color of the red jungle fowl. Only their body looks more round.
