Great country but it's almost f*сking impossible to solve any issues with the immigration office. Also regarding banking - once you miss a compliance call from the bank your funds will get stuck for weeks (MilleniumBCP). If you get involved with the country be sure to have patience, and I am talking months of waiting for something simple to get resolved. Also note that there will be crypto taxes starting 2023. All decent properties, houses and villas with 3/5 build quality are worth 1.5m+

we are. The modern concept of nation state implies a centralized authority with exclusive rights to impose certain powers. The creation and imposition of laws, taxation, currency, etc. Portugal was the first country where all these powers were the exclusive right of the sovereign. Other countries had feudal systems were those powers were spread over several institutions. Local nobles applied local laws and minted coins locally, the church had jurisdiction over certain aspects of societal norms (marriage and inheritance).

    It's simply incorrect:
Portugal has some of the worst healthcare I have ever seen.
They pay senior doctors a whopping €15 / hour as consultants.
    They don't take accountability whatsoever.
When you escalate a complaint to the top - you get a standard letter stating the facts of your complaint and says it's down to a computer error that the people at the hospital take no accountability. I thought it was a joke, but got an identical letter the second time I complained.
It's impossible when the hospital makes mistakes that could mean life or death to even speak to a manager/director at the hospital. A fluent bilingual translator could do nothing to help.
The knowledge the doctors has was the way they operated in the medical industry in the 80's. I would not want to get sick in this country and will avoid Portuguese medical help at all costs. I rather travel to see a qualified person outside the country.
