    • @mariooo88
      @mariooo88 Рік тому +3

      well honestly, not to "undertstand" them. A high handicap player can actually understand the meaning, but he wont be able to put it into action. the mechanic of swing must be very clear already. The difference here is simple: most players, not low handicap, dont hit the ball by putting pressure on it from above. Most players think they have to "push" the ball ahead. That's wrong. Once you start realizing the real meaning of "putting pressure" on it, and start creating different impacts and divots, you can understand the real meaning of this lesson.

    • @thenextgreat8652
      @thenextgreat8652 Рік тому +4

      @@MrCatsailor My best answer as this worked for me, is to focus on the “squeezing the towel” example. In relation to the grip, you’re not necessarily ringing out water from a towel because the grip pressure would be too tight. However, that same opposing motion in the hands done lightly is what keeps the club face square and it feels like the hands are connected throughout the swing. The “aha” moment for me was noticing that in my backswing, my hands were rolling in the same direction which resulted in the club face being wide open. At that point, everything else becomes hand eye coordination and the club can’t do what it’s intended to do. As I’m far from the expert here and just letting you know how it clicked for me, just pretend you didn’t read this if it doesn’t resonate with you as we all grasp things differently 😉

    Interesting how Peter Cowen is teaching this. Most teachers always have some form of club face manipulation in how to either hit a draw or fade. Slightly open the face and/or body for a fade, etc. Mr. Cowen is more talking about how to move the shoulder muscles while controlling the face to hit the shot you want. This is outstanding. Don't know if I'll be able to do this without someone working with me though!!

    This is by far one of the best instructional videos I’ve seen. If you have a moment, would you mind explaining a bit more about the loading of the shoulders? I couldn’t quite tell the difference between the fade and the draw. Was the fade more vertical and the draw flatter?

      That's what it looks like to me. Kinda makes sense too as gravity and the natural pull of the club when flatter is going to in theory bring the club in to out for the draw and vice versa.

    Agree with the people who said this is the best lesson they've seen!
    A couple things stood out!
    I became a student of tennis and put in the effort to understand everything! Doing so I found a level of tennis that 99% of the people who play don't know exists!
    So when I taught tennis I started out with IF YOU CAN'T THINK IT YOU CAN'T DO IT! Which connects to what Pete said about people needing to understand what they are trying to do!
    He is also the only one who uses the lead hand swing to feel the the stroke and using the lead shoulder to pull the swing into position!
    When I got older and started figuring out how the golf swing actually works... I was so disappointed that I didn't have anyone show me the several basics that I didn't learn for about 20 years!
    Most people I've played with still don't know what they are!

    Thank you for sharing this with us James! That was definitely a master’s class. In an upcoming video could you teach us what he was having you do in the fingers (opposing force) during the backswing? I didn’t quite pickup on the exact mechanics of that.

    • @fedup3449

      If I understood him, think of the club grip as the towel. Twist the fingers of each hand inwards against the twist of the other hand. This wrings the handle, increases control of the clubhead and locks the shoulders in. The whole lot together creates more consistent striking.

    • @Dreyno

      Think of a “Chinese Burn”. As you’re looking down, twist your left hand clockwise and your right hand anti-clockwise. Not excessively. Just enough to feel your grip stronger than before. You’re not looking to strangle the club. Just hold it as normal and then move each hand around 1cm. You’ll feel it when it’s right. You’ll instantly feel your grip strengthening without the need to grip harder. Once you get it, you will have a stronger grip that doesn’t need grip strength or conscious effort.

    I just can agree with so many comments: this is pure gold. Brilliant content. The best video on swing I have ever seen. Three key take away: (1) Load your shoulders to deliver the shot you want to deliver, (2) use natural forces correctly and (3) twist fingers opposite in the grip to stabilize the club face. Wow. Thank you very much for sharing.

    That is a great grip tip. I've heard that before just not quite like that. Not simple? This is totally simple. Opposing forces in the grip stabilizes the club, and then shape it with your shoulders. Very simple. Thanks for the vid. I agree with another poster..this guy is a bit frightening. "good shot?" I don't know if I'd even answer that question lol!
