im just going to say the info she has put about the chally3 is actually correct which i did not expect except for the dates it come into service. first batch 2025 all delivered in 2027
the new US tank is just an upgrade of the M1 abrams i mean there are 24,000 original Abrams in storage here in the us that weve never even used so there isnt really a point to build one from scratch no one has ever been able to take one out and one got hit with 99 rockets in iraq and still drove back to base
@@willsimpson125 You have that very wrong. A fair few Abrams have been taken out of action/destroyed in combat, and the so called '99 rockets' is attributed to the Challenger 2. Not the Abrams. The driver lost a toe and the tank was back in action a few days later. The challenger 2 has never been destroyed by an enemy either, just one lucky shot through an open hatch in a friendly fire incident.

@@mikeycraig8970 the driver got the medal of honor for it cause the other crewmen were all highly hurt i think one died i could be wrong about the death tho it was in 2003 now ill during the invasion of Iraq before the surrender admit i was wrong we have lost 23 i had to look it up but most of them was back during the gulf war before all the modern upgrades and still only 14 were still destroyed by enemy action 7 were destroyed by friendly fire 2 taken out to keep from falling into enemy hands im not saying Abrams are perfect in my personal opinion it guzzles way to much fuel i mean it takes 8 gallons of jpl jet fuel just to start it up i think dissel fuel is way better but its armor isnt classified for nothing and with reactive armor added in some packages its a beast i think we should do both build a new like king of all tanks from scratch but still keep the plans for the upgrades im not a fan of auto loaders because they can and do jam it happens all the time on those low to ground t-90s and a tank that cant shoot is just coffin

Answer : Yes
The US is already entering the later stages of developing their new MBT to replace the abrams. There apparently were 4 design concepts, 3 of which were declassified while the 4th has had almost nothing replaced. The upgrades for the Abrams appear to be a life extension and capability upgrade to keep it on the battlefield for a time until it ends up in a similar position to the M60's.
@@thirstyserpent1079 honestly I feel like they can keep upgrading the Abrams. The Abrams was designed to houses 140mm gun. And that was the in 80s. Upgrading existing or even a major over haul is still much cheaper than a new production line.
@@Fred-eg9sx I feel it will have a similar life span to the b 52's etc reliable platforms that just keep going until there is a significant paradigm shift. The planned addition of active protection systems, electronic warfare packages, atgm's and possibly laser based systems to intercept projectiles amongst other things such as networked systems between different tanks or automated drone support to give advanced recon to the tank crews.
This isn't even including the work the US is doing to finalize railguns in the navy and miniaturization attempts combined with fusion technology. so the possibility way down the line of something like an m1a4 that has essentially replaced the conventional cannon with a railgun spreads possibilities even more while also eliminating fuel logistic requirements due to an integrated fusion power plant.
@@thirstyserpent1079 the B52 is another league. There were minimal changes to the platform yet it survived so any paradigm shifts. It was such a capable platform to begin with, you could strap anything you want on it and the B52 will launch it lol
So far. Only Russian (Ural Factory) and EU (Rhinemetall) designed completely new MBTs, others in the lists were simply upgrades over the same hull introduced (mostly) in 80s.

What Rheinmetall tank is this? if you are talking about the new tank expected to come out in over a decade or the reskin of L2s, it isn't Rheinmetall, its Krauss-Maffei. That's like saying Rheinmetall made the m1 Abrams because the tank gun is a German derivative. Also, I wouldn't throw the entire EU under the German-French banner.

Here to talk about the MCGES. You talked about the 130mm rhinemetal, but France also wants the new tank to be equipped with a GIAT 140mm, so it is not known yet which canon will actually be equipped. For exemple on the last image showing 3 vehicles it was a French early design with said 140mm
Documentation is kinda meh, but I'm pretty sure that's the NPzK-140 cannon. a rheinmetall product that was later introduced to a joint upgrade program with france, uk and germany, when they debated upgrading firepower. it's very much part of the rheinmetall gun family, essentially and upgraded 120mm, whose development experience was used to make the upgraded 120mm and the "new" 130mm.
They're all essentially the same gun in different calibers.
If only the French would fit those 140mm Ascalon on the Leclerc... 😞

The British are not afraid of the number 3 (as in Challenger 3) while the Germans continue to just keep making variants of the Leopard 2.
Well, since the differences between 2A6, 2A7V and 2A7A1 are relatively minor, it wouldn't make sense to name it Leopard 3.

@@keithallver2450 They don't want to spent lots of $$$$ or Euros to develop a new platform. Before Russia invaded Ukraine, everything was going fine and Germany was not even spending 2% of GDP for defense. That is why no new tank design is looked at but now it may be changing...
It is still unlcear weather the MCGS will receive the 130mm gun from Rheinmetall or the 140mm gun from Nexter.
The 130 can be installed in existing Leopard tanks so upgunning the existing fleet of MBTs as an intermediate sollution is at least an option.
The 140 is a more radical design that uses telescoping ammuntion and because of the caliber it is able to use guided ammunition wich increases its performance against airial targets and other fast moving targets.
Id go for the 140 because its even more capable than the 130 and ensures that T14 can be penetrated with absolute certainty wheras its not quite 100% sure that the 130 can penetrate the extremely well armored front of T14

The urgency for a replacement for both the Leopard and Leclerc suggest otherwise. Also EU countries are debating to establish a EU army and having a common eurotank would be a great benefit.
There are actually proposals to use the Case Telescope Ammunition technology of Nexter to the 120mm gun. If that is the case, that would undoubtedly be a game changer.

Missile defense systems to counter the anti tank missiles will allow for lighter tank designs. This will be a game changer.
Also don't forget that The Challenger 3 has also been designed and future proofed to upgrade and take the 130mm Rheinmetall main gun for when we,(the UK) decides to transition from 120-130mm in the not to distant future.

@@hermes6910 Both are Rheinmetall guns from about 2000. the 140mm was just entered into a joint program between uk, germany and france, hence why the french have it. they may have modified it somewhat but the basis is the NPzK-140.

Like How exactly is that in any an implausable proposition? Have you provided documentation on the gun? no you haven't. All I can find is that Giat proposed a 140mm the same year this program was started and they got to see the NPzK140.
They in fact worked on the NPzK140 with no mention of having their own gun.
Nexter itself is saying they "drew on experiences" from that program and their internal pictures of the gun look very similar to pictues from the NPzK140, especially the breach area.
The Challenger 3 is also a German British cooperation, finally comes the heart of the tank the turret, the L55A1 smooth-tube cannon and the modernization of the tank of Reihnmetall (German Armaments Company)

chally 3. it has a completely re designed turret as well as a highly upgraded hull with lots of other top secret info we don't know about. a upgrade is more like added armour or new sights, that sought of thing. but from what i can c it is a completely new modern tank. and by the time it is in service there will have been much more developments

Even Rheinmetall and the MoD has said that it's reusing refurbished Challenger 2 hulls, retrofitted with a new turret, electronics, 120mm/55 SB gun, 3rd generation hydrogas suspension, Caterpillar improved filters and common rail injection for the CV-12 Perkins engine and improved cooling for the David Brown TN54E transmission. Appears there is no money set aside for an upgrade to an MTU -883 1,500HP V12 or a Renk transmission, nor to test or join the new Cummins Advanced Combat OP engine program and the 3 new Advanced Ground Combat Transmissions developed by SAPA (USA), L3 Harris (Renk Group USA) and Allison, under contract to the U.S Army DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC).
@@johnmartin6420 There's no need to as you probably know since you've done a lot of research on the challenger 3 that it can go 100kph or 60 mph which is fast that all other tanks so it would be stupid to change from that unless there is any engine/ transmission problems when the tank enters service.
So we do have some upgraded old tanks and some ideas for future tanks in different stages of development.
I would argue the chally 3 is a future mbt as it is pretty much completely re designed it just looks simular
When you decide to build a new MBT you have to start from scratch. You develop a new platform, based on the experiences of the past and also anticipating the future needs. Needless to say, this can be extremely expensive, which is why most countries prefer to just upgrade their already existent MBTs. Ok, you can develop a new type of shell, you can upgrade the CPU, you can install a modern APS, maybe a new engine etc. But it will still be the same tank, which will have most of the same restrictions and downsides.
From this list, the russian T-14 is the only one which qualifies as a new MBT. It was tested several years, sure, but it has so many advantages over any existing MBT.
German French MGCS will also be a completely new design. But yea it hasn't been built yet ofc.
also the challenger 3 is completely different, same can be said for the DPL, its supposed to eventually replace the abrams, tho i doubt it will, most likely it will be canceled and then the next program will actually replace the abrams, kinda like how most things in the military go nowadays, gotta can 2 or 3 programs before eventually going through with it, like the NGSW, and the JLTV programs, being the 3rd and 2nd of their kind respectfully, tho i do actually think a new tank will come in 2030, it just wont be the DPL program most likely
Yes, but they have built very few of them and are still testing them. Despite the model number,, the T-90 was just an upgrade of the T-72 and they have built just a few hundred of them. A new tank is desperately needed as indicated by their poor showing in Ukraine. The T-14 is still in the prototype stage with just 20 being tested. The Russians originally planned to purchase 2300 between 2015-2020. This was delayed until 2025 ostensibly because of the cost. However, it has to make you wonder if they are concerned about the effectiveness of the design. Also, as a result of this delay, thel technology will be 10 years older than planned before they even put one into the field. With their miserable failure in Ukraine, maybe they ought to focus on the quality of their leadership before they worry about technology.

@@silgen So far, I have seen on the video of Ukrainians a lot of hits on Russian tanks and passive defenses - you can find me a video on UA-cam where there are columns of destroyed Russian equipment - tanks - I hope you can distinguish the MBT of Ukraine T64, from Russian T72 and T80 - just basically I see a huge number of T64s smashed into the trash. Moreover, in many videos you can also notice the BMP1, BTR80, KRAZ and GAZ66 trucks - which have also not been in service with the Russian Federation for a long time. 80% of UA-cam videos about destroyed columns are columns of Ukrainian equipment. The M2020 is a pretty good joke. The armor on the turret is largely just a thin steel sheet that is designed to make the turret look bigger, as is evident by the holes cut in it for the smoke launchers (mounted deep
"inside" the turret for some reason?).
Also never seen an MBT with ATGMs mounted to the outside of the turret before. Kind of like AFV/IFV designs where the designers don't have faith in the gun's ability to kill opposing tanks...
All of this, you can prove with hard evidence and scientific research, yes? Care to provide this. It seem you have greater knowledge of M2020 than western military experts and even South Korean military experts which called the M2020 a great threat to South Korean tank forces and is the entire reason why South Korea started to looking into upgrading K2 tanks and developing new K3 concept.
Those are likely a form of hard kill active protection system (at least an attempt at fitting one to the tank), if you look at footage, smoke launchers are mounted in the back.

Nice to see so many military experts in comment section telling us how T-14 or M2020 are plastic tanks with sheet metal platings, it seems these netizen military experts are better at the job than western educated military experts who do real world analysis calling T-14 or M2020 a great threat to western tank designs, South Korea started K2 upgrade program because of M2020 revelation in 2020, South Korean military spokesperson called M2020 a serious threat to South Korean K1 and K2 tanks and that South Korea must build new and stronger tanks to counter it.

The MGCS is not confirmed to have the 130mm Rheinmetal, it could have instead the Nexter 140mm ASCALON canon.

Thing with the armata is it is not designed to engage other High value tanks. it is much to bulky, too tall and once the turret is hit like any other tank it is out of comission. If it was designed for headon engagements in a realworld scenario it would have been as flat as possible, smal siluet increases tank life thats where israel is going and the next gen tank of germany as well. a 125 mm gun on a high velocity chassy similar to concept of the wiesel tank.
Most tanks are pretty tall. The lower you get the worse you gun depression gets, and your gun elevation can be limited as well. Of all the tanks on the list, the T-14 has the longest range gun with the highest muzzle velocity, while having a considerably narrower turret, which give it a lot of advantages for tank on tank combat. IN general in tank on tank combat the first person to spot the enemy is the winner, so the T-14 has a lot of advantages right up front.

M2020... Sounds familiar to my own tank I've been improving for years called "MBT-2020".
I heard new composite armor is so potent that an rpg7 cant even penetrate 10mm of it new tanks will all have grater caliber guns becouse the t-14 armata wich i know is protected by composite armor in some sort of all or nothing style protect the crew and the tower and the electronics to fight even if lots of the tank is destroied this way you can have a light tank which is penetrable at some points but totaly imune at keysections you can damage it but it can still fight

Impressed with Challenge 3 it’s not the tank for the next decade I’m sure the crews will perform as all British soldiers do
Tbf if you look at the MOD's plans they only plan to operate Challenger 3 for about a decade and a bit (due to be retired in 2040) Its a blatant stop gap tank designed to modernise Challenger 2 while the MOD figures out how to get the skills and factories up and running in the UK to actually start building their own armour vehicles again. (which is almost certainly why the MOD is persisting with the horror show that is the AJAX IFV programme rather than just buying the proven CV90 from BAE Systems Hagglunds, its about learning how to design, build and mass produce modern armoured vehicles from the ground up, they'd rather deal with the shitstorm of problems AJAX is having now than have to deal with all of this when it comes time to actually replace Challenger)
So the Challenger 3 will finally have a common gun and use common ammunition with our allies only for them to upgun their tanks from 120 mm to 130 mm? Doh!
Why not just upgrade a M4 Sherman instead?
Its more battle tested than any other tank and its cheaper to upgrade a tank than to build a new one.
It has been in the past with the Israeli Army look up the M51 super Sherman there’s two versions of it M50 and M51 the difference is on the guns and engines the M51 has one of the most unique muzzle break in a tanks gun a double-baffle muzzle break is a French 105mm gun Israel stopped using M51 Super Sherman’s in the 1980s with some of there super Sherman’s being taken out of service till the early 1990s some countries took the M4 Sherman to its full potential.

They really stretched that Sherman chassis to its limits, it came to a point that Super Shermans were more expensive to convert from Shermans than to just buy a whole new light tank with the same capabilities.
@@SMGJohn During those times not many nations would sell tanks to Israel 🇮🇱 so they had to improvise and make due with what they had on hand. Even today Israel has retrofitted f-16s and f-15s and are a whole lot better at combating and more effective than the American spec ones our Air Force has. Not to mention they could fly further and longer with a single tank of fuel. Not midair refueling.

MCGS was a planned French collab with Germany although it was later replaced by Leclerc. So I don't know why did you even put the name of Germany & Russia whereas other tanks you mentioned apart from Armata & Leopard all of them are neither German nor Russian.
Well léopards aren't as reliable as t 90s or t72s but they are more performant

K2 PIP has 7 supporting wheels not 6 and slightly elongated body. K2A1 is due within next 6-7 years with unmanned turret similar to that of T14.
Challenger3 currently suffering from the current fiscal difficulties, and may not take place as discussions re its feasibility is redebated.
In my humble opinion, UK is better off with K2A1 and be the European manufacturing base for K2A1 and K9A2.
Don't know how it goes, but Norway is also in talks about buying K2A1 or 2 as new MBT, as I understand it is between this and upgraded Leopard 2.
We have experience with Leopards ... ofcourse, but we need to see what we can get the most bang for the bucks. the K2 A1 and 2 does look cool and have some cool features from what I have read.
Challenger three has already shown it’s goi g to be unrivalled. Best armour and best fore control on any tank anywhere…..
It's a never ending cycle. More we armor means more weight. More weight needs bigger engine. Bigger engine needs more fuel. More fuel and bigger engine means bigger chassis.
otherwise you end up with useless lightweight main battle tanks like the Russian rubbish.

M2020 isn’t official name of North Korea’s tank. North Korea never revealed name of the tank. M2020 is temporarily named by western media because it was revealed in year 2020.
Also, it is expected latest version of old T-62 tanks consider North Korea’s capabilities. The predecessor of M2020 Cheonma and Seongoon are also variant of T-62. Tough It looks like modern, some of features still came from old T-62 tank and their own variants, technically it isn’t 3rd generation MBT.

The MGCS is not likely to happen, given the German parliament is withholding its development funds. In any case it is Nexter that would develop the Gun, not Reinmetall, which for now isn't on the program...
Same as the SCAF it will go like the Eurofighter. The Bundestag will always revise the plans then France will go on its own resulting in two different projects.

@@Micha-qv5uf No only a part was voted for a demonstrator, but both project haven't advanced yet as both parts aren't able to agree. The CEO of KNDS recently expressed his concerns on the subject as the MGCS is concerned.

@@emhyrvaremreis4540 the mgcs is a program between nexter and KMW, KNDS has been created for this programm, and it's 50/50 between france and germany, the french manufacture the turret and the canon and the german the hull and the engine, but german parliament absolutely wants to take the advantage on this program and others program like SCAF (because they always know better than any other people how to make things... sarcasm), they ask to rheinmetal to make the canon instead of nexter, that's why the program is always delayed year after year

You can always depend on this channel to deliver half understood, mis-pronounced, and outright false information, all while displaying graphics that have little or nothing to do with that the voice over is saying at the time. It's the shear consistency of their mediocrity that impresses most.

Not really. The support train for the tank can contain additional soldiers. French do this for Leclerc.
When main gun goes from 120mm to 130mm or larger, you won't have a choice but to use an auto-loader due to rounds being heavier and larger. Naturally, the loader is not needed and the crew goes from 4 to 3 and savings in personnel used elsewhere. No need to debate as it is a moot point as guns get bigger.

@@danstechrefirbishment8756 i think the 60mph figure was a misstatement, its meant to be 60KPH. Currently the top speed of the challenger2 is 57kph and better cooling and suspension will get that to 60kph but not to 60mph which is almost 100kph.

@@danstechrefirbishment8756 yes because thats what the press release said, however every serious analysis has also pointed out how ridiculous it is and that its most likely a fault and should be 60kph. How does a 70 tonne tank go from 57kph to 97kph with the same engine? Its literally impossible. Even the 20 tonne lighter leclerc with 300 more HP than even the Challenger 3 only has a 71kph topspeed.

yes, given that they had made test batteries in 2019, I thought that it had a link with the Leclerc XLR but is not planned. After, in the event of war, if the 120mm is no longer sufficient, the T4 turret (Leclerc T4 with the 140mm) is expected to be produced and installed. And has the same turret / chassis location for all leclercs, so could be fitted on LECLERC S2, S2.1 or XLR
@@hermes6910 Yes it is for the MGCS, but it would take a Char factory to produce them. In fact would be a modification, The turret is made to be placed on a Leclerc without modifying the chissis, the only problem would be to produce them but these means will be determined in time of war
