Thank you for posting. Baseball card collecting has majorly changed since I did it in the mid 70's through the 80's. At 9:20 - The Namath card is definitely not "centered all around". I can easily see a thicker left border and a thinner right one. It is also tilted to the right at the top
Chris, I just have to say, that you continue to be the cool guy who works at the card shop who knows more than we do but is still totally down to help and encourage others in the hobby! You are a true sensei in the hobby! Thank you for all you do!
Just for fun, I calculated the average annual return for owning the 1961-62 Fleer box. $1.20 growing to $372K works out to 22.6% annualized return over the past 62 years. Investing with Warren Buffett from 1965 to 2023 would have earned you 19.8% annualized return.
Nice work on the calculation. One thing you forgot, was the cost to exit the investment. Besides the instant liquidity with Berkshire stock and yearly dividends, the cost to sell is 0.00% or $0 The wax box net would be the hammer price less 15% IF you got a deal or as much as hammer less 40%. $316k to 223k Compare Buffet to Fleer using these net numbers for fleer, and you will see Buffet outperformed Fleer by a wide margin.
Take a look at #10 for why grading seems really fishy to some people. The Brett sold for $150k only because “it’s in a 10 holder.” That same card today is an 8 most likely. A PSA 8 is $600! 250x less than a PSA 10. So is the card worth $600 or $150k??? It’s the same card. The plastic case just says something different. I understand the appeal of a 10 and I collect and sell so I understand “why”. But 250x??!! No way
Yes way. While it's absurd, It's still PSA graded. If the card was resubmitted for a new holder, PSA would still honor that grade and slab it a gem grade.
The Babe Ruth Honey Boy Card was issued by an ice cream company out of Winnipeg Canada. They had some kind of promotion going on where if you returned certain cards they would punch a hole in them and give you a free brick of ice cream
Best Of Success To The Snowman & Sewell On The Auction Site Launch. The Grange & Wilt For Me Was A Nerd Out Moment. 🤣 The Brett RC would be more like an 8 by today's PSA standards.
Concerning slant on Mantle, the 1968 Topps Baseball set is notorious for off center. However, there is a slight slant on almost every card I've seen out of that set and yes, that always bothered me too.
The ''price is right'' tournament was fun. But all good things come to an end. Well, until the future tournament. But good to see we're back to our scheduled programming! I even missed High Rollers! Though I still stan Regular Rollers in this house.

I can answer your ring question. Anyone associated with the winning team has a chance to purchase one. Even the players have to pay the tax cost right off the bat. I know this as my friends son Sam, who is the ball boy for the Nuggets and can be seen on a Jokic card, has a ring from their winning season last year. The players get 2 rings, one with real stones to keep safe and one with fake stones to wear. My Uncle is also a winning Superbowl coach so he has two. Sam only has one so I believe the lower end members of the team staff are only able to purchase the lower end ring. I know the rings last year cost about $63,000 in the taxes.
Hi Chris I have a 1914 babe Ruth Beckett ex5 Baltimore Orioles schedule. Beckett did label it. It is currently on eBay for over 2 million trying to get attention and a value of it looking to sell. Lots of significance means there's only 10 rookie cards for babe Ruth and on the back of his rookie card is a schedule when I have is just schedule Baltimore Orioles Buffalo
At least it’s more in line with expectations to see these great cards go at bluechip prices as opposed to seeing Brock Purdy (ex.) light it up at four figures.
The Mantle card probably went so much higher because the card looks better than a 7.5. Oh yea, where did someone find an unopened box of 61 Topps basketballs? Lastly, tha Koufax is a stunner!
Hey Chris, wondering if you noticed on the Mays that it says the owner made a late bid to repurchase the card. Probably didn't want to let it go that cheap. I wonder how often this happens and if you would consider doing a video or even tracking that stat when doing high roller videos in the future.
It's insane to me that that Brett sold for 150k. Would I buy that card for 20k (assuming I couldn't turn around and resell it with the '10' label on it etc etc.)? No.
There's always six-figure sales on these high rollers videos, so not sure why you're surprised. Furthermore, why wouldn't you be able to resell a PSA 10 Brett rookie?
Did you notice on the Willie Mays PSA 8 that the owner "placed a late bid on this unreserved lot and repurchased it, subject to applicable commission"?? Sounds like the owner didn't like the price he was going to get and bought it himself and paid the commission!!!
That Brady 1/1 NT Reebok logo seems hella low. What have you done for me lately am I right? Sheeeeesh. I’d rather own that card vs. 99.9% of the other cards out there worth about $14k
It looks like that Willie Mays may have been rebought by the seller looking at the note mentioning "The owner placed a late bid on this unreserved lot and repurchased it." 11:17
Am I the only one that doesn’t understand “photo matches” maybe something like basketball shoes makes sense but how do you photo match a Walter Johnson jersey from the 1920s. Especially to be confident enough to drop $2.3M.

My Camry's hybrid battery was graded a 0.5 by PSA. But it was 224,000 miles old. I'll trade you a pair of game used Shohei underpants for a replacement. That's about what they go for...
