    Thank you for the video. I wish I saw it 4month ago. I'm finally in Spain. I have been doing all these steps until November 2023 in Florida. It is a really challenging procedure. For the apostille I found a website that was a bit pricy kind of 130$ more or less but took for me 2 weeks to get apostille i stead of 4-8 weeks. Which is I hope an helpful dt to share😊

    the u.s. department of state says to get our documents notarized before even submitting for apostille? is this a new requirement from the u.s. department of state?? do i have to get my background check notarized now?

    • @CatieChapman
      @CatieChapman  2 місяці тому +1

      Only if its a state-level (and not federal-level) background check would you need to get it notarized pre-apostille.
      If you background checked through the FBI you're good to go! No notarization needed before apostille. The dept of state website says verbatim: "do not notarize FBI background checks". travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/records-and-authentications/authenticate-your-document/authentication-certificate-requirements.html
      Some consulates require notarization/translation post-apostille as well. That's why I consider it the most complicated document in the visa process 😅

    @dustnspace Місяць тому

    The state vs federal notarization is not clear. You say you only need a notary for state issue? The truth is you don't even send that in to federal for apostille so that info is wrong. The Federal website states the below for any document sent to them. Do you really have to go through all of this and did you?
    Before submitting documents to us, you must:
    1) Get a notary public to notarize each document:
    Using a county notary? Go to the clerk of court first, and then a state office.
    Using a state notary? Go to a state office.
    2) Make sure seals and signatures are originals
    Get a certified copy from a notary public. A certified copy is a copy of a primary document with a certificate on it that it is the true copy.
    Get records, court documents, and federally-issued documents certified at the state level.

      @@dustnspace so this is all great information in general, but it's not the state department's choice as to which document (state/federal) you would need to submit for your student visa in Spain. That would be the consulate/embassy.
      This video specifically is for auxiliaries as stated. Although there are multiple ways to get background checks & Apostilles, this is the method by which most auxiliaries will be getting theirs as required for their visa.

    Thank you so much for your help! I was wondering, if I'm doing a renewal of my visa while living in Spain (but I got the background check when I visited home recently), can I get the background check apostilled in the US and then put my mailing address as my address in Spain so I can get it shipped here?

    • @CatieChapman
      @CatieChapman  5 місяців тому

      Possibly. I would submit a inquiry to authentications as to whether or not they would accept a international mail/courier service and/or be able to send a prepaid envelope provided.
      If you do have access to someone in the states who can accept and/or mail it on your behalf, I think that would be much easier. travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/contact-us/authentications.html

    • @CatieChapman
      @CatieChapman  5 місяців тому

      But, I would note that to renew your visa (if it is still valid/if you have a TIE already) while in Spain, you don't need to repeat the initial visa process. The renewal process is different. I don't have a video up on it yet, but you only have to submit documents from and in Spain, not including an Apostille. That's only for your initial visa application.
